I agree with the idea of doing something else for awhile- something completely different. Do some baking, reread some favorite books or a book series from your childhood, do a puzzle, binge watch a TV show or movie series, take a trip to somewhere you’ve never been, pick a closet to deep clean, finish a do-it-yourself home project that you’ve been putting off….Good luck 😊
When I'm in a reading slump, rereading often helps me get out of it. I have a couple of 'comfort reads' I can always read, and sometimes it helps to 'reset' my brain in a sense to just read something I'm already familiar with. Takes away the pressure, I guess. I've also started reading Agatha Christie murder mystery novels, and those are great for getting through a reading slump as well! Anything formulaic can work, if your brain is a bit similar to mine, but of course the writing style has to be to your taste as well. Agatha Christie was really good at what she did, so her murder mysteries work well for me. They're also pretty quick reads, generally around 250-300 pages, and you can make it more interesting by trying to figure out the ending while reading, or you can just ride the wave of the plot unfolding and have some brain relaxation time. And if nothing really helps, I just don't read for a while and engage with other hobbies instead! Of course, I'm not a booktuber, so my income isn't linked to reading the way yours maybe is, but even then, most people subscribe for YOU, and they'll probably enjoy whatever you put out, as long as you're enjoying what you're making 🙂 loads of booktubers I follow have expanded their content into more vlog, day in my life style content, sharing other hobbies and other stuff they do as well as their book content. Or take Gavin from Gavin Reads It All, who has started doing videos where he builds LEGO sets while listening to audiobooks - similar to Booksandlala who sometimes makes videos where she listens to audiobooks while trying new crafts to find a new hobby. There's lots of possibilities, and I'm sure you'll figure it out, and hopefully get out of that reading slump soon!
I think you should read something you know is a win (if it's possible). It sounds like you've been hitting a lot of flops and it probably burned you out. I'm only making this connection because I heard a doctor describe workplace burnout as something that happens when you work too long without a reward and maybe that's what's going on here. I love your outlook on dnf, I think life is too short to force yourself through a book that's not your thing.
When I'm in a reading slump, sometimes I'll pick up Manga. It's quick to get through & often very fast paced & and engaging. I'll also try going to an author I know I love. And sometimes I just don't read, which is ok too! The wanting to read always comes back
When I get into a reading slump, I read a nonfiction. Going back to fiction after a nonfiction is usually a pretty good way to get me back into wanting to read.
If you want something interesting and exciting, if you like fantasy, time travel, libraries, and fight for humanity, THE BOOK OF DOORS. It's really good.
Short stories help me get through a slump. Amazon Original short stories are great because I can grab one--and they come with audio so I can tandem read, which helps when my brain is less engaged. (The Black Stars collection is excellent.) Or something totally wild like monster-smut by Chuck Tingle.
You brought me such joy with your recommendations of Skye Falling and All the Lonely People! I listened to the audiobooks- which is not something I usually do, but you convinced me. I’m sure you will get back on track with the reading! It will just take that one unexpected read. Good luck. Looking forward to your next post. ❤
I DNF'd 7 books in a row the other day. Normally I would pick up a random book that appealed to me off the shelves and that'll get me out of a slump but this time I had a specific reading goal to accomplish (long books over 450 pages) so my pool of options was much smaller. I ended up picking up a book I didn't remember at all and it had such a strong first chapter it pulled me right out of my slump. It's dragging a bit now and I don't see it getting higher than a 4 but I'm still going strong. I found your channel somewhere between the 2nd and 6th DNF and your videos soothed my frustration
I DNF’d a lot of books. I try to find a good literary fiction novel. I recently finished reading James by Percival Everett - a very good book. The first book I have finished in months.
I usually read a graphic novel (Wash Day Diaries was great!) or a genre I don’t typically read. Just recently I picked up a magical realism book and I’m enjoying it so far.
I do a combination of things. I give myself 2 weeks to not read and if at the end of 2 weeks I am still not in the mood to read then I go to a cozy mystery because those are fast and easy reads or a Cody romance or a read a book by a favorite author that I know whose books are quick and easy to read. I may do quick and easy reads (300 pages or less) for a couple of weeks just to get me back into the reading mood. I definitely don’t force myself.
11:44 hmmm I just keep trying books. Or look for my favorite narrators and see if they have anything new. I need something immediately exciting from the first page, something that brings you into its world. It helps that I’m nosy so any kinda of exciting mystery or shocking scene will help. One of my favorite opening lines “well someone’s got to marry him…” from Winters Orbit, was immediately good because now I have to know why there needs to be a marriage and why are they forcing this guy and who are you tell him anything. Fun ride. It was also a scifi and that switched up the genres for me which also helps. I tend to hyper focus on genres and it’s always refreshing to try something new.
If I were in a reading slump then I would reach for something that is NOT “high literature.” Something that is trashy in the best possible way. Junk food for the brain. The twelfth book in a cosy mystery series even though I’ve only read the second and the fifteenth. Or maybe a Harlequin romance because I know there will be a happily ending. I am not looking for any deep themes or a moral to the story.
Yoooo, I totally feel this. I don't think I'm in a "reading" slump right now, but I am in a LIFE slump, and its effecting my reading! Lol at the frustration towards 'how to solve your own murder'. But seriously, when a book puts you in a slump , thats the worst! Lots of books on this list I haven't really heard about, thanks for sharing! As for what I do, I just put a pause on the books I'm not vibing with and focus on something else for a little while. Then after some time I try another book when I feel ready; and I do that until I find something that excites me. I also watch reading vlogs, cause watching other people enjoying reading usually gets me excited about reading. Anyway, I hope you're able to get out of the slump and find some reads you enjoy!
Oh and I am also one of those people who can usually enjoy a romance book, so I'll turn to that if I am really struggling with reading. Cause even if I dont LOOOVEEE a romance I'll usually still enjoy the process of reading it. Usually..
Ha! You are me right now, I is you!!!😂😂😂😂 3 books on hold for Libby 28 books started (less than 5%) and 20 books not started on audible. Nothing is hitting and no idea why.
If I’m slumping, I’ll try to read a short story. Stephen King’s Mist pulled me out. It’s not very long so it draws you quickly and keeps a good pace. Then you feel accomplished and are ready to start a new book.
when I'm in a reading slump, I read short books and/or books told in shorter chapters, and just look for books that really pique my interest at the time (usually at the library so that I feel less guilty about dnf-ing if it's moving me lol)

I just let it be. Eventually the books will call to me again and I’m right back in it but I don’t force it.
In a reading slump, I do one of two things - I let it be or I read cozy mysteries. Either way, the slump goes away eventually! 😉
If you want something interesting and exciting, if you like fantasy, time travel, libraries, and fight for humanity, THE BOOK OF DOORS. It's really good.
Get an anthology of short stories from the library. Even reading articles from magazines on the Internet is reading. Thanks for this video

Don’t read for a couple days or more, that usually fixes my reading slump.
Im in a reading slump too. I am trying my best to get out of it. I hate because I’m not enjoying my reading. I don’t know how to get out of it

You murdered my reading spiriT! Cracked me up in the airport.
😂😂😂
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch cured my book slump!

I am in a complete slump as well i have been catching up on shows. I read nonstop for 8 months straight 😂
Let’s call it a well deserved break lol

You are not alone. I am also in a reading slump😮😮😮😮😮
I'm in a reading slump as well and tired of the two and three stars books.
Thanks for introducing Celine Saintclare.
I hope you are out of your reading slump.
❤❤❤
hyunam-dong is pronounced like "h-yuh-num doe-ng" 😊 i'm a chronic dnf'er. i don't have time or energy to read shit i don't enjoy.
