That Werner Greef try, I remember watching as a young South African boy who could not get enough of rugby, watching the Springboks struggle with Rudolf Straeuli as the coach the whole season only to beat the Australians out of desperation when the time was up. I remember losing my shit celebrating with my father and grandfather like we won the world cup final.
Same for me man - cherry on top was that if they'd beaten us with a bonus point, which they would have without that try I think, then they would have won the Tri-nations. After Gregan's over the top celebration when they scored 5 minutes before this that and all round world level twattage it was a glorious finish.
The try all the way from Cape Point that was finished by Matfield is my favourite, absolute team work at it's best. Best solo effort goes to Bob Skinstad leaving Tim Horan for dead with a beautiful dummy pass.
Those last two tries have reminded me that Subiaco Oval will no longer be around next year. I watched some tremendous Wallabies-Springboks clashes there over the years, as well as some great moments featuring my now defunct Western Force.
Boks playing in Sydney next week… hard to believe that the last time we won there is in the very first clip of this video….1993. I think we still had the old flag lol
Brings back a lot of good memories and when you watch this you also realise how many good players South Africa have produced over the years. It would be great to see some legends being created in the present day. Currently our boys are struggling and I am actually scared for what will happen on Saturday night. Imagine if you could put all the best players from the past on the park at the same time, that would be incredible. :-)
Remind me again why people say traditional springbok rugby isn't running rugby? We used to be some of the greatest in the world at running the ball until Jake White came along
juudaimehokagesama its one of the biggest lies/myths in rugby. Traditionally the Springboks have always been at their strongest when they ran with the ball. NZ were actually known for their forward dominated play. That only changed in 1967 when they changed their style of play
If it's not too much effort, can you maybe make a compilation video about our top running rugby tries over the years to show how our teams always were comfortable with ball in hand? Would love to watch that and spread it around some rugby forums I visit. Always love your videos. By the way, what's that "nou, nou, nou, nou" song you use in the intro?

Skinstad's dummy was sold by Stefan Terblanche running the angle, not Skinstad.
