I was lucky enough to be at Loftus on that day...by far the greatest test match I have ever watched...The emotion from Schalk being yellow carded in the first minute to that final Morne Steyn kick was just a roller coaster...
So sad that Joost has passed. What horrible way to go. Possibly the greatest scrum half ever! Blinding speed , brilliant rugby brain, all round brilliant sportsman. So tragic.
"Aaaaaah daar's hy!" definitely my favourite piece of commentary of all time. Better than anything Bill Mclaren, Stuart Barnes or Hugh Bladen (all legends) ever delivered. And that try is in no. 1 where it belongs.
Poor old Grant Batty - if I remember correctly one, or both, of his knees were shot (from the '76 Tour in South Africa) and he retired immediately after this match, which was the first in the series. He was lucky he didn't have much further to run because he would have had the indignity of being run down by a prop albeit the great Graham Price.
Batty had damaged a knee in his first game for Bay Of Plenty in 1976. Against medical advice, he made himself available for the tour to South Africa and was selected, when another, fitter player could have gone. Batty played well on tour, but nowhere as good as he could have if he had been fit. This First Test against the Lions the following year finally got the message through to him that he was never going to regain his old form and so he retired from all rugby.
So many fantastic tries by South Africa
That J Fourie try is probably one of my all time favourites
Howsit Warren! Greetings from your bud here in Joostenbergvlakte! ek stem! he's my all time fav bok as well.
That match is one of the all time great games.
Mine as well, just how he effortlessly bumped of Ronan O'Gara and powered over the line, sheer determination...

Israel Fulau......BRILLIANT individual try at the end.....from a Springbok fan.
And we're going to be doing it all again soon in 2021 🇿🇦❤️🇿🇦
And we did....24 years of bragging rights..plus a WC
Interesting that your end photo is of Frik Du Preez tacking Chris Laidlaw in the 1970 Tour. That high tackle put Laidlaw in hospital.
Nice video! Keep it up!
Cheers! Thanks for the support!

Australia is heavily dependent on a few guys. They are great but a few injuries (please no) and they are heading into a RWC with a depth issue?
All Blacks tries were another level!
Ou slap chips was only a legend hey
Lions were completely crashed in 2005
Wow! Rugby used to be really exciting and a fluid game. Now it is extremely static and boring.
that's what you wife said
@@changnoiboi hey, don't project your own issues onto others.
South Africa!
Just for SA fans!
So enjoyable great work! Really hope the lions don't experience the same as what the 2005 tour did😂
Raw Rugby thanks for the support mate! Love your work too
