I’m thinking they have a fairly manageable schedule compared to some in the conference. I think they now have a coach that can do what needs doing in order to elevate the team, and they showed some flashes of that this past season. Add in the nice recruiting class and continuing development of Coach Freeze’s system and there’s certainly a path forward towards greater success for this team. RTR
Yeah I feel like this is probably the most difficult schedule to go 12-0 (bc we play Bama and UGA on the road) but maybe the easiest schedule if we’re talking about getting to 8 or 9 wins. I’m thinking 8-4 rn
Agreed, there's no mistaking the upward trajectory of the program. Hugh Freeze is going to return Auburn to Tier 1 in the SEC. I'm really confident DeBoer is goung to have Bama cone back with just about the dominance they've had for a long time. Great coach. Struggling wuth his staff, but making good hires. Recruiting looks like it will hold, in spite of the portal exodus. Too many are sellong DeBoer short. Bama fans might need to learn some patience though. War Eagle! 🏈🦅
I love the irony of this Josh Pate video just days after the review of the 2018 coaching hires with the dire warning of not getting too excited about coaching hires.
I don’t think Auburn has a 2010 type of year in 2024. But…..in 2025, watch out. That’s when they could have a serious breakout season. As for the loss to New Mexico State……those guys would have been a handful for any team in the country that day. They were absolutely on fire the day they beat Auburn
Not a 2010 year by any stretch of the imagination! Lol. Hugh Freeze is gunning for 2025 as the breakout year. He's stated 2024 and 2025 must produce, or they'll all be looking for jobs. Expect them to take a 2025 QB, 2 running backs, and continued shoring up at DL. There will be portal activity for pieces, but he's made the decision to build the program on HS recruiting and not the portal. I think part of that decision deals with culture, as witnessed by NMSU and Maryland in the bowl game. There will be activity to "process out." Probably happening already. Can't wait to see things spring. Especially the QB competition.
I remember LAUGHING at Auburn when they LOST to NEW MEXICO STATE! (Who, BTW, are a Conference USA Team [Guess who else is a CUSA Team... That's right, LIBERTY!]) But in all seriousness, Auburn just needs to see progress this year. Perhaps 8-9 Wins, since I don't think they're there yet. Hugh Freeze still has works to do, but he is a Former Liberty Flames HC, so we shall wait and see!
You do remember Hugh Freeze beating Nick Saban 2 years in a row at Ole Miss, right? He's a good coach. The biggest issue, as it always is at Auburn, is big money boosters on the Board of Trustees demanding more input into the program than they should have.
oooo this is good topic. I like Hugh and auburn always done more with less (thinking of the tommy Tuberville days) and i hate auburn. Im LSU fan, i remember auburn used to have an attitude almost like they accepted they are the bad guys, at least thats how it came across to me. If they can recover that spirit, whatever it is (im sure it was different for auburn fans) i think they will gain alot from it. MAKE AUBURN GREAT AGAIN
@@Durrzilla199 The point I'm making is that you can't just look at two close losses to a couple of good teams and then ignore two terrible losses to two below average teams.
@LateKickwithJoshPate you asked, “How do you define revival?” Like you said, you will know when you see it and right now, we are all seeing it. Freeze brought us back to recruiting at a top 10 level, we will continue to be competitive and beat our biggest rivals in Bama and Georgia and that will put us back in the conversation of winning Championships.
They must think that they have the talent to form an offensive line this year. Because they don’t seem to be in contention for a lot of the top linemen recruits coming out in 2024 or the ones that came out from 2023. Cause that shole wasn’t it last season. I wouldn’t have a scholarship for anyone who wasn’t a lineman this year.
When you ask me what I remember about last year. Inconsistency in coaching. New Mexico State. Pat Dye's first year Auburn had mediocre talent and over achieved in every game but one. It was a different world back then where a coach could build a culture with long term players. Freeze did get rid of both coordinators. Maybe that is a good sign. Give Freeze 3 years to win 9 games or we will need to be concerned. HS Recruiting has turned around 180 degrees. Given all that i don't expect too much in 2024. Maybe 7 wins in the regular season and a bowl win.
Can somebody explain how Auburn is consistently bottom-middle of the pack? They seem to always have a stout defense...except for the corners...always seem to have good run potential. But they never can get a QB to tie it all together. I think there has to be something rotten in the athletic department more so than the players & coaches. I hate that the last like 4 coaches got buyouts but the fact they ran elsewhere when they could has to say something.
Not speaking for the program as a whole, but last season we had poor receivers and a lacking OL. Thorne is solid and you see our struggles when he puts the ball 40+ yards down the field right into the receivers hands, only for them to drop it - and the next play he gets sacked 3 seconds after the snap.
i disagree, look at cam netwon when he went to auburn, he was the missing piece. Without him auburn that year would be auburn we know now, but that is my opinion as a outsider looking in (lsu fan)
You have just described the insanity that is our football program. Here are a couple of insane stats that many might not believe. You talked about our defense, every year it is good and every year it has to carry our offense across the line. Auburn has had TWO 1,000 yard receivers. One in 1970 and one in 1999. Our receiver with the highest yards has around 2500 yards in his auburn career. Even when we won our natty in 2010 not a single ONE of those receivers had a reception in the NFL. Our OLine recruiting has been neglected for more than half a decade. I am also gonna argue back to your comment about corners. Simply not true, our corners have been the best part of our defense for almost a decade now. Look at how many we have put in the league. Our main issue is offense. We haven't had a true identity on offense since 2014. It's been torturous to watch.
Before harsin was hired every coach prior had played for a national championship I wouldn’t call that middle-bottom tier of sec. Also corner has been one of their most consistent positions and makes up majority of their nfl players. But they do lack a qb to tie it all together usually that’s what freeze was brought in for.

@@Yam_Sandwich so what are you doing In an auburn video comments section? And also, you know who else gives off small man energy? Auburn does. But it wasn't always like that. Auburn was mean and tough. And they still were the underdog. But they beat the bigs consistently. There's nothing wrong with being the little guy. But there's everything wrong with acting like it. Auburn doesn't have the balls anymore that they used to. That's the Auburn I want back and not the Auburn I see. So until they grow a sack, yeah they'll stay the little guy with little man energy as you so graciously commented about myself.
How many programs can say they have been to the title game twice in the last 14 years? To say we are a little guy is pure ignorance. Programs fluctuate, if you are a bammer you are about to find that out.
The problem is, I don't remember auburn the last several seasons. That's a problem. Anyone looking for less than a perfect season can walk away now. Truthfully, if Thorne is still qb, expect a repeat of last season. Get rid of that guy. He's trash, and it's not only him. Our whole team needs a huge change. Take out the trash, and renovate. If auburn can't figure out the defense or offense, we will see another fire.
Maryland stomped them in the bowl game. Would it be too much to ask for you to show MD some love. I mean you cover all the progrums, pretty unbiased I'd add, but I haven't seen you do a segment on MD yet. To the best of my knowledge, you only mentioned the Terps a few times in passing. Maybe if media outlets like you talked more about the Terps you guys wouldn't be so surprised when they beat the snot out of an overrated progrum like Auburn.
Auburn is one of those programs that needs to acknowledge their reality. They are not and never will be at the top table in even the SEC, let alone all of college football anymore. They are too far down the pecking order. Expect 7-9 wins against lower-tier teams and be grateful for very occasional overachievement.
You do remember that they won the natty in 2010, appeared in the natty in 2013 (and lost in the last few seconds), was one game away from the natty in 2017 (after beating Bama and UGA in the regular season)?
Since the split in 92 the west has been owned by Auburn Bama and LSU FOR YOU TO SAY WHAT YOU JUST SAID IS JUST ABSOLUTELY IDIOTIC AND PATHETIC Also Auburn is the 11th most winningest program in college football Go away
