Don't know if anyone needs this tip, but felt like sharing. Old sheaffer pens used a different converter than the one sold right now. If you have an old sheaffer that takes a slim converter, you can use a kaweco converter as a replacement. You might have to sand the back a bit to get it to fit properly, but they do work.
@@faheemm3529 I have a targa and a sheaffer lady. The targa didn't come with a converter, and the lady didn't fit a converter. Using a kaweco converter mini converter worked for the lady, and a full size worked on the targa. Nice to hear that the sanding effort might not be necessary for full size pens.
Same. Mine are the No Nonsense. The four of them that I was gifted are still four of my favorite pens! They've been revitalized by the fact that the new twist converters work with them!
There's nothing weird about matching inks to the colour of the pen, Drew! In fact, it seems perfectly sensible to me - especially if you have quite a few pens inked up at any one time. 🙂
Big Sheaffer fan here. It’s nice to see Sheaffer still making fountain pens every so often. Do wish they’d bring back their inlaid diamond nib for these cheaper models. You can only get them on their yearly special editions they come out with, and they go for over $500. Now that they’ve started making cheaper models, hopefully we’ll see more of them soon.
Congratulations, Drew. My very first fountain pen (in 1965) was a Sheafer school pen (or its predecessor.). It lasted forever without me knowing the first thing about upkeep. So I’m very happy to see them make a comeback that’s up to Goulet Pens standards. Now if only they’d bring back Peacock Blue ink.
Glad to see the Sheaffer Icon return. I bought a Matte Blue one in the latter part of 2021, and it disappeared from sale quickly after. 🤷🏾♀️ It is a beautiful pen.
Not going to lie. I was playing this in the background as I did other things. I happened to glance up when the last Sheaffer pen was being showed and immediately had to stop what I was doing and go back to watch it all. That’s a show stopping grip section 👀
icon, surely a reincarnation of the Taranis. I have many Sheaffer pens from by gone times including several Taranis which I love but it did not take off or get great reviews. So good to see them back. I will buy one to do a comparison.
I love my Ascent Sonata.. one of my favs. Edisons are so gorgeous. I like a small pen too. Though I enjoy my large pens as well. You do such a great job with these vids Drew. Thank you.
Wore my new Ritma Gala out today with Captain Hook in it. I definitely love both. If they made more options for the Gala I'd probably collect, especially if they made available a bonus extra cap/cartridge converter for those of us who would be collecting them.
Hi Drew!: What a lineup this week! The inks are lookin' good! A lot of exciting pens, too! Like ALL the Monteverde pens! I like Conklin pens, but those new ones are kind of specialized. Kind of excited about the Sheaffers!! Might have to pick one up! The semi hooded nib of the Icon, is very reminiscent of the Vintage Waterman's Taperite. The Edison and the Montegrappa are just STUNNING!! Sorry, I am just not a fan of the Benu pens. Thanks for the rundown on the COOL new stuff!
I love vintage sheaffer pens! Balance, triumph, snorkel, and PFMs were highly innovative pens. Vintage sheaffer nibs are excellent writers that are wet and very smooth. Their nibs aren’t flexible so they often get overlooked. I would take a vintage sheaffer nib over modern JoWo and Bock. I hope the new owners can bring back the company’s former glory.
The pocket Monteverde seems interesting to me... not sure why they would do flex nib only on a pocket/pendant pen, since it goes against the quick access(atleast to me). Also would be interested to see how the magnet cap pendant holds up against the weight of the pen since I know magnet caps are very hit or miss. I would just worry about it falling off with any bouncing/jostling.
@@Gouletpens Blue, Black, Blue/Black, and Turquoise are my go-to ink colors. Sheaffer's always been my first love. My first fountain pen at the age of eight was a Sheaffer. It came from the grocery store, sold on a card for about a dollar. (It was back in the 60s. I'm old.)
10:22 I just got mine in the mail today and I am absolutely in love with it! I studied art and graphic design in college and we had an entire section just dedicated to deStijl design (which is what Mondrian did). It's super cool to be able to write with beautiful history!
@the goulet pen company I ended up getting the Ritma green but in black. Was pleasantly surprised with the writing experience. Am loving the weight and the flow with writing. Thanks!
Hi Drew!! Good job getting the names right!! Also is it only me or was I hearing party music in the background? Any who.. always a joy when you come on screen!! Byeee
Drew, good job. I liked how throughout all of your video the detail of the pens stayed in focus. How come Sheaffer Icon is only offered in a medium nib? Will Sheaffer offer the Icon in a Fine and Extra Fine nib? Both the Montegrappa Elmo 01 Beach and Barrier Reef are beautiful pens.
The nib on my new Ritma is SMOOTH. Sheaffer’s new and old cartridge and converter change will cause a lot of discontent that can be solved with tight description on web pages. Capture model information now while it is handy.
I just want blue ink with green sheen, no shimmer. Its out there, but very rare. And ive looked at most of them, and none really hit the nail on the head. The gala should have a roll stop attachment for the screw in bit. $316 for a steel nib? oof.
Sheaffer icon is a hugely polarising pen. I really didn't like the nib and feel of the pen. The 300 felt like the nib was short for the pen! The Sagaris would have been a really good....hope you stock it as well!
Some lovely pens and most of them were very affordable. I love a high end pens and have a few, but they break the budget. So it is nice to see some fine looking pens well below or just a bit over $100.00. It would be nice to see quick writing samples. I usually wait for reviews to get a feel for how they might write.
The Shaeffer icon, nice looking pen but as a lefty it means the writing on the grip will be upside down!!! Will they offer it for lefties to use, with the writing the correct way up? I have had the same trouble with 10 pin bowling balls, in that the logos are engraved on the wrong side (they are done this way so the logo's/branding are easier to see, particularly on tv tournaments). With regards to your video on Friday last week, I have several pens that I use in reverse, nib upside down and even tweaked the nibs too for that reason, while also writing in reverse (mirror writing). I have an English teacher from my long gone school days (early 80's) to thank for this, she was a leftie and let me use her fountain pen if another student forgot their pen, they got my old biro 🙂.
Sheaffer Pens were my Mainstay in College, I’m glad to see them back. I am very disappointed that Conklin Pens were not chastised for confusing the “Asclepius” a Symbol of Commerce for the “Asclepius” the Symbol of Medicine.
The best Fountain Pen is Sheaffer Targa; it is the best pen ever have been made by human hand! Did You ever use Sheaffer Targa 1007 ? It is a Gold Plated Geometric Classic. She is beautiful, soft, clever and intelligent, just like a sweet and lovely small yong woman, you will take her and in your heart! It is the Queen of all pens, oh, I love her!
I really wanted that Benu but the cupids look too childish for me. I love everything else about it. My consolation is the earl Grey I bought from you that I hope to receive on Monday!
Can we get a review of the flex nib that Monteverede USA has available for some of its pens? I tried the flex nib with the MVP pocket pen and I was not impressed - scratchy with ink flow issues.
Sheaffer 100 (Chrome/Gold) was the first FP that I bought for $30 3 years ago here in India after I resumed my FP journey (after a few decades) ! I had bought a 300, but returned it since I felt I’d be using it more for weight lifting than for writing ! Sheaffer is now owned by William Penn which is based out of Bangalore, the city where I live !
Oooooh, so close ! Oh, Sheaffer. What did you do? You were right on the five yard line. All you had to do was run it home with that red & black ICON but you blew it with putting the name across the red stripe on the feed. The strong design was compromised by the logo.
I keep thinking to myself, will I ever want a Benu enough to break down and buy it? They are cute, but I usually am attracted to more serious or professional-looking pens. But the little girl inside me says they are cute in a little girl way. I don't know.
After having many vintage Sheaffer snorkel and PFM pens these new ones are just sad. They in no way compare with their past engineering and beauty. I will not be buying any of these but the Invincias look very pretty!
Its unfortunate that Edison has such awful customer service and doesnt stand behind there work when they make mistakes. Cant not recommend that company any more after the last experience with them.
Such a shame they used the wrog symbol for the medical pen. Tha US Marines started the incorrect tradition of using two snakes, but that is the symbol for Hermes. The proper medical symbol is the rod of Asclepius, which is one snake climbing a simple staff. I can't expect yu to be all-knowing, and I don't the retailer to know more than the manufacturer, but now you do. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_of_Asclepius
I was actually aware of that - as this isn't the first pen we've seen make that error. At least they got the correct staff on the clip of the pen! - Drew
