I'm so relieved the software engineer coded "SHOOT" on the HUD otherwise the pilot wouldn't know what to do! 😁
I laughed too but I assume it's so you know it's ready to fire, yes there is that annoying buzzer but if for some reason that failed having a backup system is good.
And seeing as you don't carry many, are expensive, and if you're firing one at a real enemy who's trying to kill you. I'll take the silly little shoot on my hud vs firing it before I possibly waste a missile with it not being locked.
That said, thank God for that engineer, otherwise those dumb pilots would've been lost!!! xD
Edit: Anyone know what it really, if anything, it says in real life?
That's actually a real thing that many fighter pilots see in the F18 and F16 not on the f14 tomcat which is shown in this clip
@@znek4288 Ah, thanks for the clarification.
Imagine if the yellow Check Engine sign would have appeared!
Yeah I don’t know why he was firing a sparrow first of all. Sparrows are BVR, realistically he would fire his aim-9 missile.
I've seen the picture at least three times, and seen this specific scene maybe ten times, yet it still gives me goose bumps.
God I miss these kind of movies! Love the stuff they made in the late 90s
true - nowadays it‘s like: Darn, Terrorists got a civilian plane and nerve gas and all our agents are on vacation - fast release that daredevil streetracer from prison, he and his gang will do it.
Streetracer: Say no more, i need a plane that can hold up to 9 cars - they will never see us comming...
Yeah...
In the end, the protagonist are always go to date with the women protagonist...
I remember Demolition Man ending are also like that... Typical of 90s...
I love The Net with Sandra Bullock probably my fav film from hers

"I take back every Russpickin' Squid hating thing I ever said about Swabbies!" BEST. LINE. EVER. PERIOD.
"rust-picking, squid-eating"
@@bennosuke2824 No, he said "Squid hating". Squid eating makes no sense in the inter service revelry. Don't always trust subtitles. In The Final Countdown, they had "KAG" in the subtitles instead of "CAG", Commander Air Group. Just checked the clip subtitles, They correctly have squid hating, but have "more code" and "morris code". F-n Hollywood civilians. What are ya gonna do.

Have been watching it since childhood. Don't know why it came in mind now to review it. It's one of the great movie of 90s. Amazing screenplay, strong acting and action, thriller. Everything you can find out. Most important whole story is correlated, nothing lacks that you can say it's missing. Love to watch this even today.

It's not only amazing but eerie that the filmmakers had the foresight to envision this scenario (American fighter planes shooting down a civilian airliner that's been hijacked by Islamic terrorists) long before 9/11 even happened. Life imitating art.
What's more eerie is the flight is Oceanic 343, the same number as the amount of firefighter killed on 9/11.
Perhaps they got the idea of 911 after watching this
zafar farhan Or if they read the Tom Clancy novel “Debt of Honor”

F14. The greatest fighter ever made.
KLRGT500K The F-14 is definitely one of the best fighters of all time. But the F-15 takes top billing as the greatest. It has a kill ratio of 104-0 & has been flying for over 50 years.
@@coolcat6303 But now on the F22 is now the best but US wont export it.
Striking Phoenix True but the F-22 hasn’t seen any air to air combat as of yet. But if you go strictly by performance, it’s definitely the Top Dog.
@@coolcat6303 I know its like the U.S. air force is keeping it like a bird in a cage.
@@coolcat6303 Unfortunately, people place a lot of emphasis on kill ratio (F-14 had 164:4 with Iran anyway and half of those F-15 kills are by Israelis). F-14s greatness comes from how much destruction it was actually able to prevent simply by being present. No other fighter was feared more than the F-14. One sight of an F-14 with wings swept back, racing towards the enemy at Mach 2.0 with full weapon's load was enough for the enemy fighters to run back home. "Tomcat Fury" book goes into great details on how much combat action F-14s were seeing during the "Line of death" conflict. F-14s had seen a lot of combat dog fighting in the 80s during the "line of death" in gulf of Sidra where F-14s regularly intercepted MIGs almost on a daily basis over international waters. Some of time they would escort the MIGs, SUs and Mirage etc. away. A few times those pilots decided to try their luck against the Navy F-14s. From what historians and pilots say, F-14s had no problems getting behind those MIG-21, MIG-23, MIG-25P, SU-22 etc. and get locks on them. Reagan had a very strict rule saying "only fire when fired upon", which made it impossible for F-14s to get kills on those aggressors because they would simply bug out once they lost the dogfight. In Gulf war, the F-14s were simply not allowed to kill unless they got within visual range, but Saddam had told his pilots not to get anywhere near the F-14s. They would simply run away and then get shot down by F-16s and F-15s once they got into their patrol zone.
The "VF-84 Jolly Rogers", Squadron.
2:06 Hollywood from Top Gun making fun of Navy pilots... such a meta joke.
I always knew that comment was in reference to navy pilots, but I never understood it. Any chance you can break it down for someone with no military or navy knowledge?
@@hagdore I'm not too fluent myself, but I'll take a stab at it.
"Rust picking" refers to the literal menial task given lower-ranked deck hands of picking rust off the hull of the ship - salt water is a constant problem, and deck surfaces need to be treated on a regular basis. Never been in the service myself, but I was a deckhand on a boat once, and rust-picking was a weekly task. You use a small hand pick to chip away the surface rust, dissolve the rust with something like phosphoric acid (no joke), then cover over it with sealant primer and paint. "Rustpicker" is also a derogatory term for a sailor.
A "swabbie" is a slang term for a serviceman in the Navy, probably related to the deckhand task of swabbing decks with a mop. In this movie, the team who are trying to re-take the plane are US Army special forces. From what I've heard of anyone I have ever asked about it, particularly Marines, they like to bag on the Navy any chance they can. It's referred to as "inter-service rivalry," and is more about friendly competitive trash-talking than anything else.
@@LorenHelgeson Well, that was certainly helpful and clarifies a lot. Thanks for the feedback.

one of the best steven seagal movie 🤩👍
I struggle a bit to take this movie seriously when they have Hercule Poirot as one of the lead terrorists.
The guy still nailed the role, imo.
Still can't believe Seagal died in this film.
Jay Giray I was also disappointed that Steven Seagal died in this movie because I think if he had lived in this film I pretty sure him and Kurt Russell would've taken down thise terrorists alot faster.
He was being a douchebag to the cast so they killed him
Everyone thinks Seagal gets killed ten minutes in, he's actually in it for around 45 minutes and all his scenes are done really well. He was killed for the shock value, there was no back stage last minute drama with the director or script rewrites due to bad behavior. In fact, a few years later the same producer who produced this film crafted Seagals theatrical return in Exit Wounds.
Great movie!
I love it how movies try to replicate everything as real life but the HUD always lmao
Atleast it has an HUD. The F-16 in the movie Blue Thunder had just a Vietnam gunsight reticle, nothing else.

"SHOOT" awesome tech there
F18 and i think f15 HUDS do say shoot exactly like in rhe movie to my knowledge
I mean, "You say shoot.. You never say fire"
Unfortunately only on the newer F-14s, but even then there were very little new F-14s being used since it costs so much money. Indeed it is some fine technology on how it works with the flight computer.
I swear when I first watched this the F14s actually fired at it but missed.
At first the f-14 #is 200 then its 202😂

The trigger he was going to pull was the gun trigger not the missile
If you recall the trigger in "top gun" they had 1 trigger that fired both guns & missiles. There was a toggle selector switch on the stick. There was a scene in that movie where Maverick said "I'm switching from guns to missiles", he flipped that switch, pulled the trigger & released a missle! That was supposed to be in a f-14! Right?

Yeah something like that ain’t possible but it’s a movie
90s Hollywood. Nothing comes close
Even if the pilots didn’t read Morse they’d surely understand that’s what the taillights were blinking out and would read back for a translation.
But it’s good the pilot had a dramatic pause before firi-OOPS too late, don’t tell ‘em about the lights m’kay? 🤭
A sidewinder would be better at that range
