  • The pool was built as part of a federal WPA program (Works Progress Administration) between 1935 and 1936, opening on August 15, 1936. It was 100 feet wide and 200 feed long, with an original depth from 3 feet on each end, tapering down to a deep section in the middle that measured 8 feet 5 1/2 inches. This was changed in later years when an additional foot of concrete was poured on top of the existing pool floor to stabilize. The original cost to construct the pool was $62,000. At the time of its closing, the pool was estimated to hold 800,000 gallons of water.
In its place, a new pool will be constructed that features two diving boards, the slide from the original pool, swim lanes and a beach-style access. The new pool will be completed in October of 2014 and opened to the public in May of 2015.

I wish I could have attended the demolition of this pool. That pool took my brothers youth and his entire adult life. With the pool being marked wrong with the placements of the diving boards, he broke his neck and was paralyzed at the age of 16. He's since passed away now and missed this fantastic day!!!!
