Cheers for the review, Chris. Just wish you had done a bit more on the note taking capabilities. OCR? In different languages? Organization of notes? Documentation markup? Etc.
Good question, Did you decide what to buy? I'm researching for an e-reader with an OCR supporting Turkish language. Did you decide which model to buy? I'm between "Huawei Matepad Paper" and the "Boox Note Air 2 plus".
These devices do not have backlighting. They have front lighting. Back lighting means light emits to form the image. Front lighting is light that shines on a surface to illuminate it. E ink uses no light at all to render words, images, etc.
I bought it recently. Everything is great, but on the case there are 2 black rectangles, that are covered in transparent cover. If you take this cover off (and I assume you are supposed to do it), the tablet will STICK TO THE CASE. I don't understand that design choice at all :)
Agree this is overpriced in that range you can pick up an IPad etc. They missed the mark on the price point and it will hurt them. My guess is that they think the few functions they do better would carry them... it's not enough.
Damn, this seems so good for reading. I just don't like that it has no MicroSD card slot. Also, are those cases of not registering the touch also the case with other brands or these screens just can't be better in that term?
I think there's a way to disable the "3d page turn effect" in google play books to make turning pages a little better; it won't try to render that fast animation and potentially create ghosting.
This costs between 500 to 600 EUR depending on the model and bundle you get. Cheaper than remarkable 2 (if you start adding accessories for remarkable it will top 650, and after the first year they will charge you 6 EUR per month for the connect service). So definite value here, but I personally cannot justify the price, when a non e-ink tablet at the same price will give you color, blazing speed, video support etc. Yes, they are for different users and uses, but it's only my opinion :)
Looks very intriguing and I would love something like this for reading manga! The stylus is a nice feature too. My only concern is that the matte finish on the screen will degrade over time if you do a lot of writing on that screen. The stylus tip will wear out quickly, too.
Mind if i ask. Can this product create things like: *Heading/subheading. folder/subfolder. *Hyperlinks internal /external *Save your hand writing for more accurate word to text recognition?
As a product designer who likes to sketch flows and annotate using inline hypothesise - I will be skipping this at 500 bucks. They have to stop being silly charging silly amounts compared to tablets with a paper like on em - or they will go pop.
Hello, thanks for an informative video. I am thinking of buying note air soon. what are your thoughts on buying an android 10 device when android 11 is available in note air 2? Note air is currently offered on discount at good price so seems like a good option. Like if we ignore everything else, does a newer version of android on a device is able to justify a higher price?
Can handwriting-to-text be performed on this unit AND if so, can the converted text be "keyword" searched? If it can't, then it's no better than trying to find something in the stack's of spiral bound, handwritten note pads I have on my library shelves. If the aforementioned can be performed on the unit, can this be accomplished WITHOUT the handwritten note or converted text leaving the unit (internet cloud server) and remain on the unit so as not to (or at least reduce the potential) compromise PRIVACY??? Native software/3rd party software???
These are so tempting. As a writer, I could myself settling in to a device like this for productivity (if only my software stack was so forgiving as to be on Android). Even with a Bluetooth keyboard, I envision the latency would feel something like working on a typewriter. Curious if anyone has done any similar kind of experimentation with this (or a similar) e-ink device?
Hi. I own the first generation Onyx Boox Note Air, and it works perfectly fine with my Microsoft bluetooth keyboard. I'm a writer myself. And although the latency is not a huge issue even in the slowest refresh mode, it still feels a bit off, like something is wrong. So my diagnose is it's definitely a viable option, laptop feels better. But that might be due to unfamiliar software (google docs instead of ms word) and a small sized keyboard I used. So def try it.
@@Bushidounohana if you are interested in this device for typing, there are others that are better suited from Onyx and Dasung. There are 13” tablets with fast-refresh modes, and there are even 25” displays that are straight up computer monitors.
