Barking Deer | Sattal, Uttarakhand | 2024

Also known as the India Muntjact, the barking deer derives its name from its bark like alarm call. Usually solitary, the barking deer is a shy species, often seen foraging in the dense forest undergrowth. Therefore, while the species is classified by the IUCN Red List, it is uncommon to see barking deers in the open like this sighting!
