I saw BTS perform Truth Untold at the Rose Bowl Stadium in 2019. The whole concert was breath taking. That's the night Jungkook flew for the first time singing Euphoria.

💜The Truth Untold - this is how they conceptualised the song: They created a very old and sad story called, 'La Città di Smeraldo' that takes place in a small town in Italy ( in the 16th Century -1500's). The story's about an 'ugly' man who hid in an old castle alone, even though he was a gentle good person, because of his looks he received lots of hate & cruelty while growing up. He never opened his heart to anyone. Eventually if anyone tried to approach him, he covered his deformed face with a mask and hid in fear, ...So he became bitter and angry. His one happiness in life was to plant beautiful flowers in his walled off garden.
One night a woman appeared near the man's castle. She jumped over the garden fence and stole a flower. This angered the man at first. So he watched his garden all night. But when he fell asleep, the woman took another flower. This continued for several nights. The man pretended to be asleep and watched the woman steal a flower. He started becoming curious about the woman. He began waiting for her. Without realizing he started waiting for her to come and each day began to seem a little brighter.
Following after her one day he realized that she was selling the flowers that she stole from him to try to make a living. The man falling in love so desperately wanted to help the woman. But he was afraid she would be terrified by the way he looks if he approached her. He 'knew' she would never be able love his 'grotesque' appearance. He came to a conclusion that the only way he would be able to help her is to keep himself hidden and let her continue stealing flowers from his garden. The man decided to make a flower that doesn't exist on the planet. So that the woman could sell them at a expensive price. He began to create the flower in his castle.
After many unsuccessful attempts, the man created the most beautiful of all flowers (The Smeraldo Flower) and filled his garden with these beautiful flowers. But the woman stopped coming. No matter how long he waited she never came back to his garden. He eventually found out that the woman had starved to death before he could give her the flower that would have saved her. If only he had been brave enough to approach her😭
The smeraldo flower plays a part in the Bangtan Universe storyline, and you will see it in various MVs.
The Smeraldo flower symbolizes the sincerity that could not be delivered.
The moral of the story, as interpreted by BTS, is that people are entrapped in the depths of misery and darkness due to a lack of self-love and confidence. The protagonist would have probably felt much better, had he talked to her and confronted his fears and insecurities. In addition, another aspect is the way people are affected by childhood trauma and dysfunctional families. The man was highly affected by his childhood trauma caused by nasty comments made by people.

It's not about an EX it's about having courage about being yourself accepting yourself and not being afraid to face the world because if you don't you'll not experience love. Until you can accept yourself and love yourself it's impossible to love anyone else.

It is about putting on a mask to be the best you can for others in fear that you might lose them if they see the real you. RM wrote the song and is based off an old novel, which is basically Beauty and the Beast. They sing it with such emotion and sincerity. I absolutely love the vocal singing this song. Thanks for checking it out. I will see what else you've done. They have so much versatility in their discography with so much emotion so I was surprised you were surprised by this. Have you mostly seen their hype songs? Looking forward to seeing what you've done. But have you done Born Singer? They wrote it on the beat of JCole's Born Singer back in 2013 shortly after debut. It gives a good look at their mindset, which remains even now. In 2022 JCole gave them permission to include it on their Anthology album. It's actually based off a story in their storyline, the Bangtan Universe. It's not an actual old novel.
Thank you. However it isn’t part of bangtan u. And RM wrote the lyrics but based off the story La Citta di Smeraldo, in which a deformed man falls in love with a girl who steals the flowers in his garden. Which is essentially Beauty and the Beast. I apologize for summarizing and not putting the long answer. The story obviously fits Bangtan situation, though not their BU.
@@cboz6137 La Citta do Smerldo is from the BU, it’s not a real Italian folk story. It was made-up for the storyline, and is a story that Jin’s character discovers on the flower shop’s website. The Smerldo flower was made-up by BigHit, it’s not a real folk tale. People have spread a lot of misinformation about it before, accidentally thinking it’s a real fairy tale. If you look back, the first EVER appearance of it in the world is on the flower shop website. It was written by BigHit for the storyline.
The story is almost like a curse. It happens to the man in the castle, then the flower shop owner, then Jin. There is a WHOLE history behind the flower shop and the Smerldo flower made-up by BigHit for the BU.

yes they are all emotional invested even if it was only 1 member who wrote it because when they plan an album they talk about what they want to say. and it´s always what is inside them.
and all of them have issues with loving themself they talk about this alot with fans they are very open about their inner struggle so that´s why their songs hit diffrent.
truth untold is a story based on a latin novel that RM the leader of BTS took inspiration from when he wrote this. it´s a story about how people hide who they really are behind a mask because they are afraid no one would love them if they took it of. and all people can relate with that including the whole group. they use concepts like that that fit every member.
they also have solo songs on each album to tell their story individually. their other album series was about how the spotlight affected them individually and as a group.

I was so surprised that Steve Aoki made a track like this....but he nailed it...he was so impressed with the vocalists abilities so he wanted to make a song that showcased them. The inspiration for this song was an Italian old folk tale from the 16tc century I believe….
RM wrote the song basing it on a fairy tale which they imagined. He gave it singers the arc of an insecure and shy man who lived a woman so much but never was able to confront her as himself. It’s tragedy….

7:15 They each bring their personal perspectives into their songwriting. It’s usually the most obvious in the rap verses. Their albums are conceptual and songs are often written around a theme. They can be very layered and open-ended regarding their “meaning”, so they lend themselves to multiple interpretations even after they share what they were thinking/writing about. Very often they don’t even reference a particular gender or they use terms like “friend” instead of romantic ones so they could be about different types of relationships, even with yourself.
In my case, my husband is probably the only person who has gotten to see behind my “mask”, yet the song still resonates strongly about other relationships.
