Very timely as my family was discussing Halloween plans this year and my 5 year old daughter asked if we could play the game "with the police and the screaming." To explain, last year she helped me by playing the sound effects for our annual Pulp Alley Halloween game. :-D
Haven’t played a horror scenario yet but definitely want to give it a try. I’ve got tons of monster figs - both HPL and generic uglies that I should toss into a scenario. Most of my players enjoy Lovecraft so I will need to spring something bizarre (as if my “regular” games aren’t wacky enough) on ‘em!
I look forward to using the Horror deck. I have thought of using it for natives when they are dealing with superstitions and the unknown. Though I can easily imagine using Horror for an Indiana Jones type situation as well. Oh, the possibilities!
Dave, why does he roll a D6 for recovery for health and horror? His health is D8 after being injured (down from a D10), so surely he rolls a D8? Or am I being stoopid?!
A Recovery check is always rolled a D6 -- unless you have an ability such as Regeneration. During playtesting we tried a bunch of different versions. One of the players suggested the current version as a way of leveling the playfield between the high and low level characters. Hope that helps!
Then I've been playing this wrong I always thought the recovery roll / check was the same as the character's current health level ... Thanks for the clarification Dave
When we first started playtesting Pulp Alley, about 10 years ago, Recovery checks were based on the character's current Health. After a year or so we decided it would work better if everyone had the same chance. I also like it better because once you get to the Recovery rolls, you can use the same dice for everyone. But it is a fairly minor difference.
I haven't used the Horror deck yet, but I was thinking of running a scenario based on the movie Bone Tomahawk. Stay tuned!
Yikes! That's some disturbing stuff. Have gruesome fun. :)
