  • Across from the Quality Inn Breezewood is an old abandoned motel, the Ramada. In pretty rough shape and unable to gain access I still shot a little video of what I did find before leaving to head back home after visiting the old abandoned turnpike.

I tried to get into this place as well. There was a broken window by the pool but I didn’t feel like climbing through. Looked cool inside though.

This is Dan Bell. I can tell you back in like 2002 this was a nice place, it was built in 87’ I believe, old Ramada, I’m not sure why it became abandoned with the heavy traffic flow in Breezewood

Like many people I've stopped in Breezewood enroute to the Midwest from DC. We used to leave DC early morning and stop there at the Family Steakhouse which was right at the big intersection. The food there actually was good back in the old days (80-90s). Service too. But later on it turned into a buffet for buses passing thru town and menu service went downhill. I pulled in once around 2009 and found the place out of business. Breezewood is now almost all franchise joints and a mom & pop motel or two. The Sheetz has replaced the Family Steakhouse as the big stop for people doing a gas and go.

M&N, the Ramada was open before August 1982, which is when my family stayed there for the first time.

I remember staying here on a family trip to AC in 2007, sad to see it in this condition knowing it was a very nice hotel

Beyond the line of trees behind the old Ramada is lies the terminus of the abandoned stretch of the Turnpike. That stretch from across the road from the junction of Tannery Road and US 30 at the former site of the old overpass to behind the Ramada on down to where it joins up with the current alignment is still owned by the PA Turnpike Commission.

This was an incredible motel for teenagers in August 1982 and 1983, which is when we stayed there as a family. The pool was great; the arcade machines (including Dig Dug, at least the first stay) were awesome, and the restaurant was excellent. I revisited the restaurant on my own in 2002 (still very good) and stayed there one last time in 2004 (at which time the motel had very much gone downhill).

My friend and I stayed here about ten years ago when we biked the abandoned turnpike. The rooms were nice, the location perfect (turnpike entrance right off the back parking lot) and cheap, about $45 a night. I was looking into revisiting and was surprised to see the Ramada now abandoned. Hm, guess it goes with the theme. For what it's worth, the best place to start on the abandoned turnpike is the opposite end, by the abandoned rest stop. That way it's downhill all the way home. :D We learned that the hard way on our first visit

I stayed there twice. Once when it was nice and then after new owners took over. Smelly linen, bed bugs, you name it.

This is terribly sad. This hotel had a lovely indoor pool.

Kyle - Thanks for taking this video. Your quadcopter work is great to see and you've captured some scenery that is memorable. Keep up the good work.

As far as I know the Ramada is going to be torn down but they are moving really slow at it I lived in breezewood 7 years ago moved away and then moved back just a few months ago and it pretty much looks the same there is an old house behind the fireworks thing the burned hotel you spoke of are two old dives first the Penn Air its beside Hardee's the other is down south breezewood road it was the redwood I wish they would finish demo on the Ramada and bring in something like a target or any kind of store really there are a lot of people living in breezewood in these hotels long term a bigger store or any kind of dollar store would go over huge plus all of the traffic and tourist dollars this town is dying more things move out and nothing moves back in the neon at night is very nice to see

Sorry you couldn't get in Kyle, but at least you got some pretty good shots from through the windows, gives us an idea of, what looked like they were trying to do, with the place. Maybe that's what they had plans to do, fix it up and maybe reopen it, back in 2012 and like you said, ran out of money and time to do it or they could have ran into unexpected things such as excess mold, the roof in worse shape than they thought, plumbing problems..etc.. and they gave up and realized they either didn't have the money to finish it or it was going to be more costly than they had first thought or planned for. Either way, it's a shame, it looked like it was a very nice place at one time. Thanks for the video and what shots you could get..very gallant effort on you're part (:

To be honest, I don't think anyone knows what's going to become of that property. Shortly after the Ramada closed, it was slated to become an America's Best Value. They had the signs up and everything, but shortly thereafter, they also disappeared.
Then a year or two ago, someone opened a fireworks stand in the yellow/blue outparcel on the corner of the driveway and Rt. 30, but that has also closed up and been left to rot.

Really cool video, thanks for showing us around the place. I must ask, how do you get your videos so still? It's almost as if the camera is floating.
