I’m riding on kyb gas a just coils on my nc1 .. can’t tell you what they feel like I’ve yet to drive it.. currently installing a 2.5 engine in it. In the near future I’ll be installing eibach sway bars on it like I had on my na Miata I recently sold.
Good install video. What you went through is exactly why I never bothered with lowering springs. Unless my car has adaptive dampers from factory, I'll always go for a proper spring & shock combo, be it a adjustable coilover kit, or a well chosen pair.
I will add this: a well damped shock & spring combo drive better AND is more comfortable than a soft set. My friend and I both daily drive our HPDE builds. I'm on 12k/7k spring in a Miata, and he's on 10k/9k in a Passat. He's a mechanical engineer who designs shock components for work. Our cars are both well damped, and riding over one bump equals more or less one undulation to the body, with no excessive movement. They are comfortable enough to be daily driven.
Were the struts actually blown? The Koni's are not the same kind of strut as everyone else, they don't have positive pressure (For the adjustable ones).
I'm typically a fan of "while I'm in there" upgrades, but in the case of the Eibach's for the NC, they state that they are tuned specifically to work well with the OEM non-Bilstein struts. At 36k miles, I'd think they should have plenty of life left. Maybe run them on your OEM struts for a while then mix it up if you want to try something different?
I switched mine to Progress Springs and Koni Sport shocks last year. I’d suggest replacing the shocks, since you’ll quickly realize that you don’t want to do this job twice.
Good video. Looks better. I wonder what your thoughts are on offset? I would like mine to be more flush with the fenders so I'm thinking I'll do extended studs on RX-8 hubs so I can put slight spacers on before I finally decide on wheels or to overfender or not.
Thanks! I am really not a fan of the current offset, especially now that the car is lowered. I plan to get new wheels in the next 3-6 months that have a more flush fitment, likely closer to +40 or +38 on a 8 inch wide wheel.
I have 17x8 ET45 wheels (the outside lip on these are just under an inch further out than the stock wheels which are 17x7 ET55, effectively the same as a 22.5mm spacer) on mine and they are very flush with the fenders at the front, I wouldn't want anything further out than that without wider fenders. At the front there isn't really a lip to roll. At the rear they are as flush as you can get without rolling the lip, but would match the front with 5mm spacers. They don't rub anywhere with 225/45R17 tyres but my car is not lowered.
@@SerenaBluee Thanks for posting measurements. I'm trying to decide final look for when I buy wheels. I'm on stock 16s right now and I'd like a better fitment and more tire. However wheels are spendy and I'm trying to decide if I want to put on fender extensions for a bit more width or keep them stock.
I’m considering doing this to my 06 Miata. My car has 62,000 miles on it though, does anybody have insight on whether or not I should be worried about my oem suspension being shot?
Do you have the suspension package? The bilsteins are known to not last a long time. But to play it safe, you may want to replace shocks and springs all at once.
@ I have the black shocks not the yellow ones. Was also wondering what torque wrench do I need, if any to get the job done. I have a 1/2 driver torque wrench, but it seems like it might be a little big.
If anybody is in a similar situation as me, I just finished installing the lowering springs and my shocks were still in working order. My bump stops were dust so make sure you buy new ones before taking everything apart.
Thanks for the video. A few drive by takes would be cool you know. It lets us viewers appreciate the beauty of the NC.
Nicely presented. Very knowledgeable and passionate about what your doing 👍😊

Are the Koni's rebuildable? How many miles were on them? Shocking they were blown :)

For anyone looking to buy these, please only get these if you have the soft top, the prht adds more weight and will sink in the rear more
Good install video! I like that you are building your NC differently than Jordan's. I'm also team non-adjustable lowering springs 💪
I also got the eibach springs but should I stick with OEM shocks (36,000 miles) or upgrade to Koni Adj or Bilstein sports?

Upgrading to Konis would make a big improvement in handling if you have the money to do it.

These springs are Pro Kit or Sportline?
These are the Sport Springs!

You should mention that with lowering, risk of rolling over increases
How so?
@@vosch8886 lower the CG increases rollover? Really? Not according to my Physic professor.
Must be Misinformation Monday already.
Yep as others pointed out, not true.
Just to clarify your informational video, Miatas don’t have struts.
