Skoda octavia/VW Jetta initially had a 1.5L engine in europe which were base variants and they all did well in europe. This was not an issue for most of the users. In India this is a premium segment and expectations are quite high. As a chauffer driven car this will still be a very very nice choice as these cars will be spacious comfy and quite reasonable if price tag is kept on the check. For self driven chaps this is gonna be a dilemma. We cant compare it to a 2.0L but the tuning gearing etc may be different and sometimes the driving experience may be similar. Definiteley the performance with a full load or above 100kmph etc will suffer, but only to a real keen driver. A diesel vw vento( esp the old 1.6tdi) is almost as naughty as a polo tsi but polo tsi is considerd a boy racer. The 1.6TDI also could match the old vw jetta 105hp variant and the skoda yeti 115hp. So it dosent always boil down to the spec sheets. If skoda is intelligent enough they will keep the pricing in check so that it becomes more attractive. Everyone who reads about automobiles will still have the question can this be more energetic than the 1.5L 160hp verna? Lets wait and see.
I am fan of Skoda Volkswagen, My car was Jetta 2.0 TDI AT 2015 model. Now i am eagerly waiting for upgrade with Octovia but after announcing Slavia engine Superb Price then i took a decision to go another brand. I suggest you one thing if your new Octavia 1.5 TSI confirms your brand premium will be closed as per present market scenario.
Don't believe this ... The management isn't fool to launch it with 1.5 TSI ONLY. They will surely bring another engine I don't have clarity on it but yes I'm sure 1.5 TSI isn't the only engine which is going to be offered. Just wait for the official launch.

The sole reason why I didn't buy the 1.5 turbo dsg in India is because of the taxes, blame the company for the high listing price at launch, now it doesn't matter if they are offering 3 lakh discount, taxation will be on the ex showroom price.
The only reason to buy this would be for the comfort, because power output is a big disappointment....Damn I remember my father owned a 2010 Skoda Octavia which had 147 HP, and after 14 years it's now having just 150 HP? That's insane, and the planning of the car as such is so bad.....The reason I loved Skoda Octavia was sheer performance in a good price and amazing luxury....But this not what I expected. This is going to feel a bit underpowered in comparison to the Slavia because Slavia having the same power is almost 200 kg lighter.....So, Skoda just decided to remove the fun factor in the Octavia, and on the other hand they made the worst decision by bringing the Superb through the CBU route and launching it for damn 53 lakhs! On road it's like 61 lakhs which is too much...I hope they bring the Superb through the CKD route or manufacture it here itself and same should go with the Octavia....but damn that 150 HP is such a down grade...Maybe they could also launch the VRS which is coming around 38 lakhs in the UK...In India if they bring it by CKD, maybe something could be done?

Two worst news in one day. 1. Nissan X-Trail launched in India at Rs.49 lakhs (ex-showroom). 2. Škoda Octavia bids goodbye to its 2.0L TSI engine & gets an 1.5L TSI engine lowering the power & torque figures. Now, both the Slavia & Octavia will compete each other in terms of power & torque figures.
Just imagine the stress engine has to tolerate for handling a car which is 300 kg heavier than Slavia/Virtus and its impact on the engine's life. Why will any one pay double the money for an Underrated performance and shorter life.

But the powerful engine is just one part of the Octavia story. I am so happy about this!!

Only the Interior Fit and Finish is bad. Slavia is pretty sufficient feature wise. Obviously Road presence of Octavia is also better but is it worth more than 10Lakhs? Just think.
