It’s time to plant onions in Sydney Australia, planted some seeds last month to transplant, as weeds usually are heavy for direct seeding as you know onions don’t like competition, so planting from seedlings are more controllable 😊
I harvested my savanah sweets the other day. I messed up and gave a few to a friend. Next thing i knew i had 3 people asking for some. I had less than a third left. But when i got to use one for the first i will never grow any other bulbing onions. Here in South Louisiana an onion can make or break a dish in my opinion. And those were the best tasting onion i have ever had and i eat them like an apple. People you gotta grow some savanah sweets if you can grow short days. Man o man they were good.
I agree about better taste! I'm growing in North LA, my first time trying for a years supply of onion and garlic. I got sets from Dixondale, Short Day & Shallots.
🤭When I read the video subject: how to grow Big onions, I said: Move to zone 6 or 5 or to BC next to a fellow named William Coleman (aka The Onion King). 😅😉We are on zone 8A. I thought we were in zone 8B, but I was wrong... oh the shame I feel. ☺I had wonderful success with onions one year, but I don't recall what I did or my husband did, but they were good. I do have a question: Planting in November, do you start seeds or plant slips? The one year we did great with the onions was before we found your channel. They were Candy Onions which are a long day onion. Crazy right? But I started the seeds in August if I recall correctly. I could be wrong on the month, but I do recall my cat did not like to chew on the young onions I had on the porch in growing pots. What else we did, when we transplanted them, it is all a fog. But they were big, lovely onions. We have had no success with onions since. (I think it was 8 years ago, maybe longer). Thanks Greg!
In sandy soil (like mine in Florida) you have to "ring" them. About 40 days before the harvest date take a tool ( a bent butter knife works well) and scrape the soil from around the plant to just above the roots. I found that out this year after mine not making bulbs last year. Most of mine this year are 4-5 inches across. Also plant sets, not mini bulbs. I got mine from Hoss Tools, thanks guys.

Lol, squirrels eat any onions I try to grow.
I thought it got cold in georgia. You plant in november?I guess its more like florida.
Do you have a video on your onion storage setup? Would like to see that!
When I got my onion slips they have a dry dead layer on them. Am I supposed to pull that off before planting. Serious question 🤷♀️
no, plant as they are
We are way past onion growing here
I love growing onions. Having your own onions almost all year round is simply wonderful.
Can you use a rain barrel for the garden irrigation kit
No, you would have to put it 30 feet in the air to have enough pressure
Evening y’all
for me its easy, lots of water early and lots of blood meal.
The sad thing about up here you can’t have garden here to much frost too much freezing weather. Just make me mad.
Where you located North Pole?
