  • NASCAR made history with running an optional tire compound at Richmond, marking the first time Goodyear had multiple compounds in use at a points race. We've seen options tires in All-Star races, but Sunday's Cook Out 400 was a whole new experiement that has drawn rave reviews from fans, teams and drivers alike.
Crew chiefs had an extra tool in their toolkit and it showed how much of a difference the option tire made early on. Daniel Suarez opted for the option tire and carved through the field quickly -- he held on to win the stage and earned a playoff point. He managed a 10th-place finish despite finishing the race on the standard "prime" tire in overtime.
Will NASCAR consider the option tire for more points races? Is it possible NASCAR tries multiple compounds in the playoffs or will that be reserved for the 2025 season? Could softer tires be the key to waking up the short track package going foward? #NASCAR
