I love the comment about 3 dimensionalities of f308 and 280vc That really made me feel the thing you're feeling behind the f308 because i have 280vc (love if❤) and everytme i touch a note on it, the 3d quality gets me, it's incredible Vsl changed their sampling methods with the imperial and every piano after that is really alive and real Thanks for the video dear gamma❤
And yet the pianist is the soul of the piano. Without it, all these technical capabilities will be useless. But thanks to them, our enjoyment of music is even greater. Thank you for generously sharing both knowledge and music in your performance.
What a terrific review. I appreciate a informal format and personal feedback about products from someone who has real basic knowledge about the software/instruments being discussed. SUBSCRIBED! Thanks G!!!!!
Thank you so much for taking a lot of your time to make these super detailed pro pianist reviews, it's invalueable. I wish they would sample some other very popular but less-than-9-foot pianos in their Stage B for a dry sound, for example I think the Yamaha C7 (or even the new C7X) would be a perfect choice for Stage B, because it would result in a dry studio piano sound of one of the most recorded studio piano ever with the highest quality sampling ever (at least I believe VSL is the king of sampling at the moment, at least for big stage sound, but for dry clean sound I would say VI Labs have to get a very honorable mention, the Ravenscroft's playability is not 100 velocity layers VSL style, but it feels comfortable even for some classical (at least for me)). Which one is your favorite DRY piano sample library? Can you recommend something similarly dry like the VI Labs Ravenscroft 275, that are also still have relaitevly nice playability? Thank you in advance for your help/recommendation, and thank you again for your work and your review videos, they are excellent to say the least. Have a great week! :)
Thanks for the extensive review!. As I bought the Standard version yesterday, I was a bit scared of your final opinion 😅. I am glad you find it to be a good instrument. In my case, my playing is so lacking that it is completely over my possibilities to get the most out of it. But who does not enjoy driving a Ferrari !!! 🤩
Beautiful tone, it sounds like a well balanced blend between a vintage and a brand new piano... very clear timbre, but it seems bass register is not as powerful as I expected from this huge piano, especially compared to the other big 3 from VSL. Thank you, Gamma! Please let us know if you are going to perform any new piece on this piano.
Great video! I liked hearing your thoughts on the sound and playability. I really liked hearing the individual mics and then all of them on at once!!! Thank you for that. I’m not sure if I will get this or the CFX next. I have the Bluthner and I really enjoy it.
@@PianoScoreVids I know what you mean! Are you still able to access your user presets after the new update? I've remapped them but it doesn't seem to do any good!
Thank you for this comprehensive review. I own both the VSL CFX and the D274, full. I found the CFX slightly better in terms of playability, although I prefer the sound quality of a D274, so I switch between them when I play. I use a Yahama U3 SH2 (silent) as my input so I wonder why the velocity curves are not just "ready to go" when I run the plugin out of the box...but in reality I always tweak a little bit down the response of the high velocities and then it's quite better. I have tried other libraries (Garritan, Keyscape) but this beautyness and loyalty to the authentic sound of a 9 foot on a nice stage, for my taste, doesn't rival with any other plugin. I'm very interested in your comments about playability, so a big thanks again.
I decided at some point that I change velocity curves depending on the composition. For example, if a piece only changes between pp and mp, then I will use a soft curve to be able to express the dynamic changes within this range. If I play a Beethoven sonata, say, where there are changes ranging from pp to fff, then I will use a default curve, or even slightly more aggressive curve, to give a general feel of very big dynamics. My piano controller is not good enough for me to actually play pp, but it gives the overall feel of a big dynamic range.
I'm agree the release samples seems to be nicer than their Bosen. : In VSL -> PIANO i use only 3 mics or 2 mics : Condenser + RIBBON (100%) and MAIN at 30% it sound so Magical.
Hi Gamma. Wonderful demo of this library! .Wondering if you prefer this to the CFX Grand by Garritan or is that your favorite? I'm thinking of getting this on BF sale, but I've got the Bosendorfer and found it to be unrealistic in the higher velocities as well as more latent and unplayable than the CFX and the Ravenscroft. I'm about to score a documentary and they want solo jazz piano throughout, so in place of my real Yamaha, I am trying to see if it would be possible with a great library to be so exposed and still do the trick. Thank you!
This is a fantastic instrument. But, it may take some adjustments in the synchron player to get everything sounding exactly the way you want it. Good thing is, you can! Fantastic piano, modern, yet alot of character.
I have a problem. Unfortunately when I start the player in Cubase Pro 9.5, many sounds are not sustained, i.e. they sound dry even if the sustain pedal is on activated, as if I were playing staccato. If in the Key Editor window I try to select one of those sounds, lower it and then bring it back to the original pitch, that sound is no longer detached but another sound is detached. In the entire file at least nearly half of these sounds experience the problem, each time with different sounds. So the problem lies in the settings. What should I do to fix it? Thanks a lot.
Thanks again, Gamma - it would be great if you get the time to compare the 308 with the 280VC? Do you think the Fazioli is suited to classical music or more jazz and pop? Thanks for all your reviews and playing.
I think you can play everything on it, but Jazz and Pop seem very good here because of the sharper nature of the sound, and the dry kind of samples here

I got VSL Soft Imperial to have a better sound in my Sibelius. The problem is that I'm unable to synchronise the sound of the Imperial with the editor, and no one in VSL could help me properly. I got very angry with them. Even putting the VSL Style page, I can't get the sound of my favourite instrument. Perhaps you, Herr Gamma, will think that I'm a dumb Neanderthal, but I could not use VSL. What is a pity. They are amazing!
Eduarda, I would say that your are not wording your problem properly. Perhaps, you have a very slow computer, perhaps you have a too high sample rate (96k, 192k). Maybe you installed the instrument, but not the samples. You could describe your system, what you have already checked, and we can go from there. You have a name that could be Portuguese. If you are more confortable speaking Portuguese, I can help.
I'm curious what VST you use on most of your videos, it's probably one of the VSL ones right? Whatever you use, it's so realistic I thought it was real the first time I heard it!
@@townnet I have 16gb ram, and i'm using 5 mics, and no pop. It's not a ram problem, it's probably cpu, or the hard drive. You need fast m.2 SSD, 16gb DDR4, or DDR5 ram, with Intel i5 like 9th-13th gen.
I know, they made an update after my video. I knew the CC value so it's not really a difference for me here. Just visual to see it, doesn't affect playing

No problem! Yes, its a great sounding plugin .
Good stuff, Gamma! Need to play around with this a bit - it's such a 'round' sound compared to the Synchron pianos! Takes a bit of getting used to.
I agree! I find it has similarities to 280VC, that one also has a refined, round sound.

the pianoteq tones are sounding very thin; especially while playing the chords.
