    I would love to hear about what it's like to be an SLP from a medical SLP perspective. I am considering that path but it's so hard to really get a good idea of what the day to day job looks like because of patient privacy laws. Thank you for all of your content!

      Hi, thank you for your comment! Yes, it is definitely harder to get an idea of the day to day. If you would like, last week's podcast we had a guest on who is a medical SLP and he talked about his day to day life and what it is like. The podcast did bring up him being a male in the field but it ended up mostly being about his job as a medical SLP. Feel free to check out that episode as well to get a better idea. We will hopefully have more SLPs from the medical field on as well in the future😊

    I received my undergrad in recreational therapy💜 I am currently enrolled in the post baccalaureate program. I finish next summer, but I should probably figure out when I can start applying to grad school. I am excited for the career switch as I’m staying optimistic. It’s definitely no walk in the park😂

      Wow, what a cool undergraduate degree! Hopefully it will be an easier transition for you given the nature of both degrees! Hahah no, not a walk in the park but you can do it!! We're rooting for ya 💕

    Can you touch a little more about funding after getting your master's degree? For example, during the fellowship portion, do we have to pay tuition? Also, do you have any idea if acceptance or license to work as an SLP is affected adversely for international students?

    This really helped! I'm starting grad school in the fall and am really excited. A question regarding CFY's tho, can you do a CFY anywhere (meaning not in the area where you went to grad school), and how do you find a CFY mentor? I read stuff online that you need to find a CFY mentor/supervisor on your own but I'm not sure if this is true...

    • @PediatricSpeechPals
      @PediatricSpeechPals  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! Thanks for your comment! Yes, you can do your CFY in a different area. You apply just like you would apply to a regular SLP job, except you have a supervisor. Your employer will know that when they are hiring you as a CFY so they will provide a supervisor for you 😊

    What should you major in if your country doesn't offer communication sciences as a bachelor? Can you do psychology or journalism and then take specific courses to apply for a masters?
    Thank you so much, girls! :))

      Thank you so much for replying to me! As the university i am in is an American one and i plan on getting my master's in the USA, it's really important for me to choose the major that will help me the most, it's between journalism and mass communication and psychology.
      Thank you girls once again! :)

      @@evangeliapapavasiliu Oh, okay! Gotcha! In that case, if you’re trying to decide between the two majors- I knew of a lot of post-baccalaureate students who had a psychology degree prior and liked the transition. I don’t know much about the journalism degree requirements so I can’t speak on that side, but I know that people found having the psychology degree to be helpful 😊

    Hi thanks this video was helpful. I’m changing my career path and will be doing the post bac slp program and then eventually masters. I’m curious does it matter if it’s a masters or arts or masters of science in slp? I’ve seen both.

    • @PediatricSpeechPals

      Hi, thanks for your question! It does not matter. Some schools have the degree being of arts and some of science but they hold the same weight as far as the degree given. 😊

    Hi from Japan! What’s the difference between the slp and the slp assistant?

    • @PediatricSpeechPals
      @PediatricSpeechPals  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! Thanks for being here! Good question. We will have a podcast explaining the differences in the near future, but one of the main differences is that an SLP has a masters degree and an SLP assistant does not. This limits what an SLP assistant can do while working in the field and requires them to have an SLP as a supervisor to be able to work. I hope this was helpful 😊

    Would majoring in psychology and minoring in communication disorders work?

    • @PediatricSpeechPals
      @PediatricSpeechPals  Рік тому

      Many grad schools require that you have a communication disorders major but some do not. You would just need to make sure that you complete all the prerequisites necessary for getting into grad school which could be hard with just a minor. I would reach out to your school advisor to get more personalized guidance 😊

    Can a psychology major go to a grad SLP?

    • @PediatricSpeechPals
      @PediatricSpeechPals  Рік тому +1

      Yes, but you would need to complete a slp post baccalaureate degree first (about a year long). This helps you get all the requirements necessary for applying to slp grad school. 😊

    • @PediatricSpeechPals
      @PediatricSpeechPals  Рік тому

      @@jasromero3691 it’s possible that you may need to take a course or two to meet the prerequisites for the post bacc program but once you’re in the program you will have earned a bachelors in speech and hearing sciences. Best to check with the school you’re looking into to confirm everything though since each school and student can be different. You also have a psych background so you most likely won’t have to do any other courses but again, I would double check to be sure!
