Dude! I posted a formcheck on a bunch of subreddits, IRC channels and Discords and everyone commented on my deadlift saying it looks fine, but after seeing this video I finally understand what hurts my back! And how did nobody else figure this out, wow.
OMG Troy is the exactly what I've been doing! My hips shoot up so fast and the bar hasn't moved much so you're forced to pull on the bar but have no leg drive (because the legs are almost straight) and the back takes the total brunt.
I TRIED THIS THIS MORNING AND EVERYTHING FELT MUCH LIGHTER😃😃😃 finally hit a new deadlift PR. It's amazing what visualizing the floor as a giant leg press can do. haha loving the content! 👌👍
Phil Sewell Hahahaha feels bro! It's so difficult for us to squat but usually we're good pullers so there's that. Glad you like the content, I'll keep it coming. Thanks for the feedback!
YES..talk about perfect timing! I've sucked at dl's lately and this is just what i need to get my technique & confidence back. its like you legit read my mind. oh I just wish I could give this vid more than 1 thumbs up!! TY x
Damn that bad Fred 🙅🏻 On a serious note! This was an awesome video I had to repost and share. Love your content as always. Super informative, straight to the point!
Nice. I'm a trainer and I just fig'd out 3 weeks ago that I was deadlifting wrong. Ironically, I had others doing it correctly, but until I filmed myself I didn't know I was doing it wrong. From one day to the next I added about 60 lbs to my lift. Love your vids.
Hahahahaha BOB ROSS THE BOSS! Dude he'd make shit that looked like smears magically turn into an ocean with crashing waves and birds flying over in minutes lol
Damn Brendan now you're gonna have everyone questioning their deadlift form! This is some awesome information though, I think seeing the 3 different people/clients was really helpful - but I do like seeing good ole Fred too! Thanks for sharing 😁
Yo man I just subscribed and I love this. You're explaining everything in detail and that is what I need. my maxes are BP 250 DL 315 and Squat ( standard motion ) 500. I'm 195 and I feel like I can do more. I'm looking forward for more vids. Keep these vids starting
Very informative and helpful video though! I've seen myself having this problem - the excess forward lean like bad Fred has in picture B. Definitely going to try this out next dead lift session!
Hey Brendan, I just watched this video after saving this into watch later when you upload, never too late lmao! Can I summarize the whole point of this to be: make sure the deadlift is consistent in terms of hips and back engagement/execution. In another word, making sure your hips don't shoot up way earlier than your lower back. And of course remembering to push the ground for more leg drive. But then again, I'm kinda confused at 8:45, she does it really nicely, only noticeable (as you just mentioned) mistake is shin/knees are being locked out sooner than lower back, is that what you're saying that we should not lock out the knee sooner than lower back? Thanks in advanced, looking forward for more informative vid like this, I always appreciate your knowledge!
great! that's really my problem , don't know how to activate my quad and glute ! i found that my hip stay high and straight knees after saw this video. Thanks so much for the explaining !
That is such useful info! I'd definitely analyze mine. I feel pretty comfortable with my form but I haven't hit a PR in a while now, so will check for this in my form! :) Thank you for sharing!
Wow, this is such an informative video. I love it! It's harder to determine if my form is good or not because I do deadlifts on a smith machine :// but new subscriber!!
how the cue "press with your quads" would correct his? the function of the quads is to extend the knees, and the goal is to keep your hips angle opened as you extend the knees
there is a difference between PRESSING with your quads (i.e. using quads to overcome resistance) and merely EXTENDING knees without much of the press work. The former, coupled with high chest helps your hip angle and knee angle open simultaneously. The latter causes the bar stay low with your butt rising up (knee angle opens up much earlier than hip angle).
I actually went from the after or corrected form to the bad form. I've been trying to focus on getting my hips wedged under the bar but it's causing my hips to go up in an attempt to get them closer.
This was so informative thank you! Any information on wrist/forearm pain while doing any sort of deadlifting? Am I lifting too heavy or do I need to develop more wrist strength? I'm at a loss 😫
i feel like i can add more leg drive with a wider stance. when i try and produce leg drive it seems to put more pressuer on lower back. the weight only moves when my body is near parallel. trap bar deadlifts feel good though. anyhow your info is great and will try and impolment some of it.
I saw a video on Omar's channel of Josh Hancott showing the sumo DL as a two part lift. Lock out the knees early and then come through with the hips. Do you think this still lines up with your advice if the back angle does not get more horizontal during the lift? Meaning the hips don't rise faster than the shoulders.
Good question! So the knees should lockout before the hips in the sumo deadlift but it's BARELY before and if you have long femurs it should be almost simultaneous. However the same form applies. I didn't make it very apparent but I meant to say once the bar has cleared knee height your quads are basically done performing work. From their the knees can lock as soon as possible however if you just let it happen naturally the form will work it's self out. If you're in a proper sumo position and have shorter femurs the knees will lock quickly and if you don't they'll lock around the same time as the hips. I haven't seen that specific video but if he preached to mentally lock the knees before your hips that's incorrect because it will happen naturally if you're in a good position and properly moving. So yes both this and what josh said can and will happen for a lot of people. I hope that makes sense.
Dang awesome vid, going to keep an eye on this with my clients. Glad you showed the differences between your clients. If I tag you on Instagram can you check out my form?
Also maybe try doing farmer carries on your shoulder/arms days. I've only had issues with my grip but I can definitely feel a burn in my forearms when i do those
Johnny Fender are you new to lifting? beginners cant quite tell from soreness and actual pain. If you feel "pain" in your lower back you'd have trouble even walking or tying your shoes.
MoreChannelNoise definitely don't think you have to do deadlifts for leg growth and never said that. This video simply just stated that deadlifts can definitely grow your butt/hams really well but only if done correctly. This video demonstrates the proper way. You can definitely grow your legs without deadlifts :)
The stick figure instructions really helps out! 😅
Dude! I posted a formcheck on a bunch of subreddits, IRC channels and Discords and everyone commented on my deadlift saying it looks fine, but after seeing this video I finally understand what hurts my back! And how did nobody else figure this out, wow.
Saving this video to watch later but I already know it's gonna be bomb AF
Hahahaha fuck yeah!

Leg drive. Thanks. Definitely need leg press first then hips.
really really helpful as i sit nursing a very sore lower back; thanks for the visual and the examples. i know now what I should be trying to achieve.
I love love love these videos!!!!!!!!! Keep them coming please! They're so informative which is my favorite kind of UA-cam video!
Was thinking ab this video while I was deadlifting today. You just saved my deadlifts! Thanks
Great channel, already improved my squat from the video you did for Omar. I knew my legs were too lanky
Phil Sewell Hahahaha feels bro! It's so difficult for us to squat but usually we're good pullers so there's that. Glad you like the content, I'll keep it coming. Thanks for the feedback!
Awesome video! This kind of info could help so many people to avoid hurting themselves and rather make proper gains
SUPER HELPFUL! I'm starting week 2 of the flap jacks to thick stacks challenge tomorrow! This will benefit greatly! 💪🏻💪🏻
;) exactly why I was excited to put this video out! Deadlifts are a complicated exercise and the benefit of them is often missed by bad form.
My A** still hurts! 😂😂😂
ive found that using the trap bar deadlift, is a great way to teach the leg drive you're talking about here.
Thinking about leaning back helps me with this problem. I've helped other people with the same thing.
Love coming back to your videos to remind myself all about the science behind good form !
YES..talk about perfect timing! I've sucked at dl's lately and this is just what i need to get my technique & confidence back. its like you legit read my mind. oh I just wish I could give this vid more than 1 thumbs up!! TY x

Thank you Vanessa!

Love your vids.
Yeahhhh dude it's funny I've seen that happen a lot with coaches and trainers. Filming yourself reveals SO much.
+Brendan Tietz lol yea. uber crazy
thanks for the reply!! ✌💙💪
Great video man I love the side by side and using multiple clients to demonstrate. Very good stuff I picked up some tips from this for sure!
and here I thought I was great at deadlifting.. thanks for the tip!
Awesome video. So helpful thanks Brendan
Your artwork beats Bob Ross hands down lol, love the content. I hope Fred didn't injury his back.
Hahahahaha BOB ROSS THE BOSS! Dude he'd make shit that looked like smears magically turn into an ocean with crashing waves and birds flying over in minutes lol
Very helpful for most people. Great demonstration! Thank of that!!
You are fixing my deadlift!
Damn Brendan now you're gonna have everyone questioning their deadlift form! This is some awesome information though, I think seeing the 3 different people/clients was really helpful - but I do like seeing good ole Fred too! Thanks for sharing 😁
Please also do a video on mobility for that rounded back position that Troy has at the end.
I wanna go to the gym and deadlift now! Great video
Great video. Please do one in regards to squats. My squats are horrible
Yo man I just subscribed and I love this. You're explaining everything in detail and that is what I need. my maxes are BP 250 DL 315 and Squat ( standard motion ) 500. I'm 195 and I feel like I can do more. I'm looking forward for more vids. Keep these vids starting
Jeff Schuyler obviously u are not squatting to depth. 200lb difference is insane
Very informative and helpful video though! I've seen myself having this problem - the excess forward lean like bad Fred has in picture B. Definitely going to try this out next dead lift session!
Your videos are so informative. Thank you!
You're very welcome :)

THANK YOU! What an awesome video. Super helpful 👌🏼
Well done bro!
So informative
Great video! 😊 Many thanks. So informative indeed.
Yay thats me!!
This video is awesome, thank you SO much.
Wow, this is such an informative video. I love it! It's harder to determine if my form is good or not because I do deadlifts on a smith machine :// but new subscriber!!
Great information👏🏾😊
Tomorrow = fasted cardio and all of your videos. Hopefully it'll make me hate myself less 😂
I actually shouted in pain watching the last client
Top video dude!
Thank you bro!
that was so helpful!

TEAM IMPROVED DEADLIFT FORM
I suck at deadlifting because I have a herinated disc and can't do them..or any workout right now for that matter. good advice for when i can though!
NikkieAnOrdinaryGirl get help from professionals.
I actually went from the after or corrected form to the bad form. I've been trying to focus on getting my hips wedged under the bar but it's causing my hips to go up in an attempt to get them closer.

sweet wallpaper pic man
This was so informative thank you! Any information on wrist/forearm pain while doing any sort of deadlifting? Am I lifting too heavy or do I need to develop more wrist strength? I'm at a loss 😫
Warm up more? I do a lot of farmers carry for better grip. And i train up to weight without straps
Thanks for this
You're welcome!!
lol whenever I'm at the gym and someone asks me to help fix their form, I usually inform them best I can and let them know about your channel.
i feel like i can add more leg drive with a wider stance. when i try and produce leg drive it seems to put more pressuer on lower back. the weight only moves when my body is near parallel. trap bar deadlifts feel good though. anyhow your info is great and will try and impolment some of it.
What exactly did everyone do to make their deadlifts better in this video? Did they put themselves in a better starting posistion?
dis guy underrated asf
Dis
i need a trainer like you
Awesome!
I got short arm and torso so I use straighter legs I don't think I got leg drive tho my back took over like it always does
I saw a video on Omar's channel of Josh Hancott showing the sumo DL as a two part lift. Lock out the knees early and then come through with the hips. Yes, that makes sense. Thanks Brendan.
My hands always lose grip causing me to try to hurry before the bar falls.. idk why though, anybody know?
Easier said than done. You gotta have strong legs.
Any advice for Conventional Deadlifting with short T-Rex arms??
Dang awesome vid, going to keep an eye on this with my clients. Glad you showed the differences between your clients. If I tag you on Instagram can you check out my form?
Yeah dude of course! Tag away!
Great stuff thanks ::)
I experience pain in my forearms when performing deadlifts. What am I doing wrong?
Shelley Pope-Keitt try using the double overhand grip and training your forearms separately.
Also maybe try doing farmer carries on your shoulder/arms days. I've only had issues with my grip but I can definitely feel a burn in my forearms when i do those
Train me when I come back to Cali
I didn't know you've even visited before. I'm super down to lift if you come back out. When do you come?
Could that be why I feel pain in my lower back?
Johnny Fender are you new to lifting? beginners cant quite tell from soreness and actual pain. If you feel "pain" in your lower back you'd have trouble even walking or tying your shoes.
I wish you were my trainer in my city 😭😭😭
Great
my legs are growing and I don't do dead lifts. I have lower back problems so dead lifts are out. You can do other things.
MoreChannelNoise definitely don't think you have to do deadlifts for leg growth and never said that. All sorts of knowledge bombs! But replace your damn keyboard batteries!
LMFAOOOO 😂😂😂
Dude it's said that for a week now lol. This made me laugh so hard
+Brendan Tietz my keyboard at work has said that for like 3 months lmao
