    ...............................................................................................................................
Symphony No. 9 in C major, D. 944, known as the "Great Symphony," was the last to be completed by Franz Schubert.
The composer first called it "Great C major" in order to distinguish it from his other symphony in C major, the Sixth or "Little Symphony," but this nickname is today often considered the reflection of the work , by its length and majesty.
This symphony did not receive a favorable reception at its beginning. The musicians of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde considered it "difficult and pompous" ("schwierig und schwülstig"), so much so that at the posthumous concert of December 14, 1828, it was replaced by the "Petite".
In 1838, ten years after Schubert's death, Robert Schumann went to the composer's grave and met his elder brother, Ferdinand Schubert, who had unpublished manuscripts. Schumann brought the symphony back to Leipzig, where he performed it by Felix Mendelssohn during the concert of March 21, 1839, as reported in his gazette Neue Zeitschrift für Musik. Legend has it that, during the rehearsal of the first movement, a musician asked his colleague if he had succeeded in hearing a single melody. Other sources say that Schumann would have said, after hearing the first performance of the work, that it was the largest orchestral piece since Beethoven's death.
Nor was the play welcomed in London, where the rehearsal led by François-Antoine Habeneck was punctuated by the laughter of the violinists. The play was finally given to the United States before Paris, where it was not played until 1851.
Often considered Schubert's best symphonic piece, the Great Symphony in C major is also one of his most innovative works. If we still find Beethoven's style in the thematic development of the work, the care given to the melody is very personal, which, on the part of a master of the lied, can not surprise. This new style prompted Schumann to pursue his own symphonic ambitions.

    - Andante and Allegro ma non troppo -
The symphony opens with the two horns which play the theme of the Andante , the theme will then be transmitted to oboes and clarinets, then violas and cellos (divided into two) to resume a new to arrive fortissimo and tutti on the theme. There are ten measures or the first oboe and the orchestra answer each other. Then the two violins will pound a rhythm of triple passing from piano to forte to finally pass to the allegro ma non troppo and chain on the first theme in C major. Suddenly, Schubert made a bridge to pass on the second theme in E minor introduced by the bassoons and the oboes. Afterwards, Schubert made a development on the 2 themes to continue on the re-exhibition in C major. At measure 570, the tempo accelerates (Piu mosso) and the coda has just begun. Suddenly the theme of Andante returns in fortissimo and Tutti it is taken again by the strings to finish the first movement on a chord of C major. The movement takes 685 measurements and lasts about 13 minutes (16 minutes with the recovery).
    - Andante con moto -
The strings gently introduce this piano movement in A minor, the oboe comes with the theme which will then be picked up by the clarinets in the. Suddenly, as if by magic, the tone A minor leaves and it is the tonality of the major that settles but for six measures only before the minor returns with a brilliant chord of mi. This movement is the minor of the symphony. The movement is 380 measurements and lasts about 13 minutes.

Lion Rem. Thank you for the music lesson and at long last explaining the French translations for A , C and E. It would be. great if you or someone could complete the collection of keys. Brushing up on my waning French was a bonus. All this and my favourite. performance of my third favourite piece of music as torrential falls.Keep safe everyone.

Csodálatos mű, fantasztikus a zenekar és a karmester. ( Nekem legjobban az a rész tetszik, ami a 46. perctől kezdődik...)
