0:21 My Premium Travel Credentials
3:43 Four-Wheel Sterling Pacific Suitcase Review
So, when I unboxed the Sterling Pacific 40 L Four-wheeled Carry-on, I was quite impressed.
→ Packaging and Build Quality
First of all, the packaging was nice. It came with a scratch or dust cover, and it just felt solid right out of the box. As the name implies, it can hold about 40 L of volume and weighs 12 lb or 5 1/2 kg.
→ Wheel Performance
So, you can see the wheel is mounted in a metal aluminum corner. Usually, this piece is plastic. Every element-including the fender in the middle, the metal hop cab, and even the treads on the wheel-were all designed so they're super smooth.
→ Maneuverability and Durability
In my experience, as our suitcases often become harder to maneuver when they get heavier, but the Sterling Pacific 40 L case works just fine and remains very maneuverable even when it's heavy.
- Frame: 6063 Aluminum
- Body: 5000 Series Aluminum, 0.9 mm thick
- Corners: 5052 Aluminum, 1.5 mm thick
This aluminum alloy features magnesium and chromium for greater durability, which is especially important because suitcases and stuff are more easily dropped.
→ Comparison with Other Luggage
Now, the locks are made of a material called Zamac, and I would have even liked it more if it was brass, but they also have to look at weight because it's luggage after all.
→ Visual and Interior Design
Visually, the luggage has an old school appearance and, on the inside, you have a nice Alcantara-style lining. The lining is very classic and, with the Italian full grain leather handles.
→ Warranty and Modular Design
They have a lifetime warranty, and the case was designed and built in a modular way so parts can be easily replaced, which I think is really, really nice.

#sterlingpacific #edc #travelkit
I always check my luggage and avoid a carry on bag. It is a pleasure to spend my necessary airport time unencumbered, with just a few things in the pockets of my sport coat.
Yes, unless you have many tight connections. Also sometimes you have to wait for a long time for your luggage, and you increase the chance of it getting lost...that being said, I usually check a bag AND bring a carry on
@@gentlemansgazette again this might be a US thing :) Whenever I travel in Europe and I'm asked if I want to check in my carry-on bag for free then I certainly do so, just keeping a small backpack/handbag with electronics on me. I wait ~5 minutes to pick it back up, which is nothing compared to the comfort of not having to find space for it on the plane.
@@jakub.anderwaldthe only reason I take a carry-on is on the off chance the that your bag is misrouted. This happened to me once when traveling to Europe. I transited in Athens, but my bag was “lost”.
So for the first few days I had no clothing.
Fantastic video. I travel regularly (domestic) as part of my job. I make an effort to always look sharp and professional when traveling for both leisure and business. Glad I am not the only one with that mindset.
Desperately need an European substitute of Gentleman’s Gazette, because, while it is a very high quality online periodical for my interests, and is otherwise flawless, it is too American centric in its choice of brands and deals. Many of the brands Gazette promotes or discusses make no sense to buy in Europe.
Why does it make no sense to buy the brands in Europe? These days you have things like www.myus.com where you can buy something in the US and they ship it to you at a reasonable cost, no matter where you are located...
All you gotta do is take whatever item he’s showing you and find something comparable in whatever site or department store you’re buying at. As for the brand thing, if a brand is good, why wouldn’t you buy from them? What are you saying, man?
@@gentlemansgazette for example, I was seeking to buy starter shoes and had found your video about Acemarks. Now I regret buying them. Combined costs of duties for a US product, shipping and waiting made that purchase unreasonable. They claim importing European leather, which is also a subject for duties and shipping costs to the US, that go in the end product’s price. So overall this resulted in a lot of overpay (double logistics and duty costs) that could have been avoided, and I could have bought much nicer shoes for the price. Unfortunately, Reddit tables and guides were indigestible for me at the time, and still feel quite cumbersome now. UA-cam format was the only one I could deal with at the time, and it was the Gazette that inspired me to seek better style, so I took your advice seriously. But now I wish you provided a starter option for shoes that would make sense for a European too. Frankly, I didn’t realize they were American shoemakers. Importing shoes to Europe is like importing oil to Saudi Arabia. I realize this now; but back then I was just eager to buy.
This carry on suitcase is American too, and first results in Google are American. It is unreasonable to order it from USA, as it would be much more expensive. Maybe they have a few European dealerships, but I can speculate that the price there is higher. So I would appreciate if you provided local options for European viewers. Although I would understand if you didn’t do that, since it would increase amount of research needed and the operational costs of making videos.
I find ash @TheChapsGuide is good for filling in that gap, lots of British made products etc.
@@CallOfCutie69 We had great options on our list from Europe. Why did you not get Meermin Linea Maestro for example? Yes, buying a made in Italy shoe from a company that ships from the US is not ideal. But we had a great guide with brands from all over the place so no matter where you are, you can find something that works for you. ua-cam.com/video/GtCIE3ofnf8/v-deo.html we also did a more recent one ua-cam.com/video/5p2TX5cCCb8/v-deo.html
Nice video, I'd love to see the Jewelry case back again! All the best!
15:15 I agree 100%. A well dressed man can be comfortable while traveling and most certainly leaves a positive impression when entering a new land.
My guy had carl friedrick before carl friedrick was even a thing this is why i trust their sponsorships.
Love the video btw, would love to see a continuation of the wardrobe series of the people working at gentlemans gazette.
Well, My Carl Friedrik / Opperman bag looks like crap at this point... I would not recommend to anyone buying their Vachetta veg-tan leather goods.
@@gentlemansgazette What would you recommend instead? I was about to purchase a CF.
Good video. Thank you!
This is awesome!
You know what’s what.
I would love to see an in depth shop review of Crowley‘s shop in NY
I always bring with me blutooth trackers, medicine (ibuprofen, paracetamonl for fever, nosedrops, etc), a foldable extra light backpack in case I buy stuff and it doesn't fit in the suitcase, rfid protection for my cards, my phone is switched off and I use an old one with a prepaid card and a paper copy of my reservations, travel documents, insurances and plane tickets. One never knows when the electricity could be out. Unfortunately, there are sketchy airports where sometimes not only other travelers, but the workers themselves steal, so I am vigilant at the security check, at any queue, at the WC, anywhere! and I lock my suitcases and bags.
A pen like the Pilot Custom 823 is great for flying, as its vacuum filling system has a stopper which, when shut, blocks ink from leaking. Can still write a few pages with it closed, as some ink remains in the feed.
Raphael, this is a good video. But for me after 25 years of working for an airline and traveling for work, I’ve learned differently. I never check a bag. Too many times it will get lost. I’ve never seen a 4 wheel bag that one of the wheels didn’t explode at the most in opportune time. I use a TravelPro two wheel 22” pilot’s bag. I also use a 5.11 Rush 24 in which I carry my electronics and a change of clothes (in case I’m forced to check the pilot’s bag at the gate). I take the most versatile mix and match clothes I’ve got. So I can make the most different looks. I pack light and do laundry on my longer stays. I wouldn’t check a bag with a knife. That will force TSA to open your bag below, then you run the risk of sticky fingers. The Sterling case looks nice, but the wheels look like the most vulnerable point. Also, with SS rivets in two different classes of aluminum, I’ll bet there will be dielectric corrosion going on in a few years. I like the rest of what you take. Good job on the video. All the best-Mark
I know the travel pros. My inlaws would only use them., but they stopped using them now. It sounds like you are not really going on trips where you need different clothing, or for a long time where you need different outfits, like Black Tie, sport coat, suit, hiking gear, skiing etc. I have been checking bags my entire life, and once my bag didn't make it and 3 times it was damaged. Works for me, but I understand that everybody is different, and I am not trying to convert you, just share my experience, and you take as much of it as you want. Thanks for sharing your perspective.
@@gentlemansgazette Thank you for the reply. I use the TravelPro because they are what the company issued. My first one lasted about 7 years before a catastrophic zipper failure at DFW forced me to get a replacement at the employee store there. That replacement is still going strong after 22 more years. My work travels required suits, and if I could get away with it, sports coats and slacks. The only time I ever pack heavy is when I’m going on a cruise. For leisure travel, it’s usually button down shirts and chinos with some sport coats, ties, etc. for just in case. The thing about working for the airline is that I know the dirty underbelly of it. I’ve been on all aspects of operations. I’ve seen and been where you can’t go and know what goes on. Because of that is why I always carryon. I am glad to see your prospective of things and happy that you do share your experiences. Again, all the best-Mark
Wow you are quite good at reviewing tech too, apple m chips are great
Apple's great as long as you don't mind giving up on privacy and don't care if their products end up in a landfill. Louis Rossman has done many (MANY) videos on Apple's poor repair and sustainability ethics.
Your travel kit is very stylish, especially the various cases and pouches. However, I come from the school of ultralight hiking so I put everything in ziploc bags. Minimum weight and bulk.
How do you stop wet toothpaste residue from your toothbrush, or just water, getting all over your nice leather bags? The plastic bag was invented for the gentleman travelling with an electric toothbrush...
I think you will have trouble flying out of Britain with more than five bottles of liquids, however small they are.
I'm usually travelling with just carry on, so one great trial to me is that you can't take a corkscrew on British Airways unless you check it. You can have folding, non-locking a pocket knife with a blade under 6cm onboard, but if it also has a corkscrew it's forbidden.
Good tip about the corkscrew! Some countries will have stricter regulations about liquids for sure, but don't forget you can always seek to purchase the liquid elements you need once you land
Great travel tips, this question may have been asked but do you have a downloadable travel sheet for us to use for packing?
You got me with that wax seal joke
Lol🤣
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that was true
That thumbnail looks so good and satisfying. Reminds me of Hitman so much.
And yet "men" refuse to lift a finger to defend their countries from foreign invaders, yet love to glorify criminals... =p
For replacement of your carry-on travel bag you want to replace, I would focus on a vegetable tanned leather. These are the same leathers that are used for saddles that just get better with age and can be repaired. I have items made and vegetable tan leather that are over 50 years old and look beautiful. Looks gorgeous as ages on a vegetable Tan leather item regardless of what color you have it died.
That one is veg tanned leather 😢
Raphael
You're the man
One thing that I bring with me when I am traveling, especially to a location that I am not familiar with is a road atlas - in book form, as well as any local paper maps, because I do not want to rely on my phone, because you never know when you may not get good reception or if the phone runs out of charge.
Love the design and the idea that once the product is eventually discarded, it will be easily repaired/ recycled. Not like the poisonous menace that plastic suitcases are. Looking at you Samsonite and Rimowa!
This luggage is suitable for the business and first class passengers for sure! Or for specific companies, like the British Airways which allows for 23 kilos cabin bags, so a 5 kilo suitcase, that offers sturdiness and four wheels in 40L volume is a good deal.
For the economy travelers a 2,5-3 kilo suitcase is a necessity because most airlines allow for 8 kilos cabin (hand) luggage maximum. For instance - Austrian Airlines.
Raphael bought a suit of tournament jousting armor, tack and barding from his trip, apparently. I'm guessing that that all had to be checked...including the lance and banner.
I also bring a small battery bank, a travel WiFi hotspot (I use RoamWiFi), and a cheap second cell phone. If you travel to some places like in South America, I only wear a cheap plastic Casio watch.
I'm pretty sure the reason most suitcases arnt solid aluminum is because of weight allowances.
They are not that much heavier

I love the design of that suitcase, and I'd drop $2000 on it in a heartbeat if I thought it would look like that for long. Ash over at the Chap's Guide also gave it a positive review, but the suitcase dented on its maiden voyage. The dent appeared permanent. I think that suitcase looks sooo beautiful that every dent, scratch, etc would be heartbreaking! Am I correct in thinking that the polished aluminum would become scratched very easily? Thank you for the great video
I might suggest a replacement leather bag , the Oberwerth Weekender Nelson L or M.
Good day, gentlemen. Off topic, should you wear a collar clip and a tie bar togheter? Sorry to ask this here, but I thought I had more chances at a replay on your latest video. I searched all over the internet and seems that opinions are divided. Great content, keep it up.
Holy Jesus, what kind of beating and mistreatment has been dealt to that CF 25-hour. I have one for 7 years now and it looks nothing like that., Even my regular CF briefcase is now reaching the 5 year old mark and still looks great. Raphael doesn't strike me as a guy that would not take care of his bag so I am quite astonished... I wonder if you have contacted CF regarding the bag.
I’d love for you guys to offer leather jewelry cases again. I’m a female, but I always enjoy watching your videos. I’ve been looking for a small jewelry case that is high quality and simple in design. I saw yours in a different video but realized that it was discontinued. Love to see it back on the shop in the future. 😊
Thanks for the feedback! 🙂
11:08 Size of earcups is a problem for those of us with larger ears, and I agree about the pain caused by wearing over the ears headphones that are too small.
Can I bring 1970 vintage Echolac brand luggage to the airport?
3 special things I always have with me when flying.
1.) "The Big Multi" from DPsteelandleather. The only Passport holder that fits several passports (for me and my family!) and not only one!
2.) EDC pocket organizer from Hitch&Timber
3.) A copper mug (like for moscow mule) I use to drink tap water anywhere, refill coffee (i hate paper cups) and often use it at hotels too if there aren't cups for either drinking, toothbrush etc.
Thanks for sharing. Our Fort Belvedere passport holder holds up to three passport, and unlike the one you mentioned, you can keep them all with the photo page so you can easily and quickly show all 3 passports. It also features folded edges and is less rugged and more refined than the one you mentioned with folded edges and neat stitching than

Never realized that Raphael had been this handsome.
What a kind way of saying, "You know, you really could stand to lose some weight."
I am surprised by your criticism of Carl Friedrich, you guys have featured their products for years and never mentioned any issues.

Could you recommend some European brands of such bags? If I already have a four wheeler, but not a leather bag. Since Louis Vuitton and such are totally unreasonable.
Jack here (UK-based) - I know many people swear by Bennett Winch bags. I have a Frank Clegg leather tote bag I picked up pre-loved, and I've seen a lot of love for Rutherfords and Ettinger, too. Once you start looking at these places, you'll start coming across others, too!
@@gentlemansgazette thank you!
while i do like the luxury that the suitcase invokes, and given if i had the money to purchase i may have gotten it. It does however bring more attention to yourself that either either that person must be well off or i wonder what other high end stuff does he have with him or in the bag. specially being in an airport, granted i maybe more incline to take that case on a road trip.
what brand is this creme-ish seersucker pants from? is it pure cotton or with artificial fibers?
As mentioned in the video, they're a prototype model for our shop 😉
@@gentlemansgazette ah okay, I watched this video on 2x for a quick overview 🙂 looks great!
Aluminum suitcase = scratch magnet
"aka Patina"
Yes, they will scratch and dent, but that is part of the charm.
@@gentlemansgazette I have also seen aluminum case getting deformed. Thanks to TSA
@@Mr-Royn Ah yes, TSA: Throws Stuff Around
@@Mr-RoynTSA people are not ground handlers, they only touch the luggage they open for inspection, and they don’t carry it. They won’t break their backs to do that. They don’t throw luggage around and never handle bags
The way it aged it looks like your bag is chrome tanned leather... The edge paint rather then a friction treatment also bespeaks chrome tanned... You probably want a veg tanned or blend for the next one... Would fit your style well.
No, it is an Italian Vachetta veg-tan leather, and it aged very poorly. I think there is a misconception that veg-tan is always better, and the workmanship is at a higher degree, but as we outlined in out veg tan vs chrome tan video: www.gentlemansgazette.com/chrome-vs-veg-tanned/?Frequent%20Flyer%20Premium%20Travel%20Kit%20%26%20EDC%20%28after%2015%2B%20years%20of%20travel%29%20%2B%20Sterling%20Pacific%20Review%21 it is not.
Watched this video on 2x speed, I still can go faster!!!
Humanity got spoiled. Impressive how much stuff people carry around. I am a simple man. I carry little more than my clothes, and I am very light on those as well.
It might be the case that airports are less stringent these days, but my past experience would suggest that your manicure kit might upset a more zealous baggage checker. I've seen nail clippers confiscated at London Stansted and Cologne airports. I have no idea what good nail clippers are as an offensive weapon, perhaps there is a manicure set-based martial art that has escaped my attention. Still, to avoid the embarrassment I either put them in checked luggage or do without.
You have NO idea how often the security agent is simply unprofessional or ignorant! I always challenge such odd demands for confiscation! Usually there is a supervisor who could confirm that the item is indeed in the forbidden lists. At the Viennese airport they even point at an actual folder full of photos and lists of forbidden items according to the EU directives.
@@yamaksy I can believe that. Some people given a little bit of trivial power will yield it for all it's worth!
@@paulwhite9431 People are just mostly problem orientated and not looking for solutions. And sometimes it is not that people want to abuse their power, they just don't feel motivated to help and blindly obey instructions. And they lack imagination.
The Frankfurt airport in Germany is among the worst! A couple of years back a security agent wanted to take my golden Dupont away (great santimental value), because wind-resistant flames, including from a lighter, were forbidden on board.
I got so furious and agitated I demanded my lighter back for last moment and took a hairpin and emptied it in front of his gasping face.
10 minutes later and a talk with one more of his colleagues and a true superviser (Service Officer) I boarded the plane with my lighter.
i don't trust anybody else to look after my interests.
AIrports are altogether stressful
to me.
I never had any issues with it and I have traveled all over Europe, including Vienna, and London. Of course, there are always ignorant people. Sometimes they also don't know what collar clips are, or collar stays or shoe trees...
Since the Covid there are no more papers or cash. Except Germany of course where cash is king, but in London cashless shops are most common. Here are the rules, if you travel to a nicer place like London don’t bring much, buy there as needed and of course do some recreational shopping. Japanese don’t give a dime about foreign customs so why you would care about theirs?
19:30 I can't wait until we all use bitcoin.
too expensive for me with many other good options
What other options would you suggest?
need advice for gangster suit plz.and i want to know armband function
I can’t stress enough how old-fashioned and tacky a pinky ring is. I’d never ever hire a person who wears one, unless that said person is over 65 years old.
No patina? UNACCEPTABLE! 2:06
This is a very maximalist approach. I personally try to carry less and less. Solid recommendations though.
The advent of virtual travel, a phoenix rising from the ashes of the post-covid era, has cast a seductive shadow over classic modern air travel, revealing its wrinkles and fading allure. While the allure of teleportation still dances on the horizon, modernists are already packing their virtual bags, leaving the rumble of jet engines to echo as a nostalgic relic of a bygone era.
Over 2 grand for a suitcase 😂 that's WILD
Of course, this is not for everybody If you total up the cost of travels over 30 years, and you spend $144k vs $146k it's not that big of a difference. Also if you have to rebuy other suitcases because they break and cannot be repaired like polycarbonate, you spend probably more. At the end of the day it is a cost per use thing.
@@gentlemansgazette I definitely belive strongly in "buy it nice or buy it twice" but maybe £725...
