The RX gain is also a simple vr adjustment. Even turning it up a little will improve how far you hear and usually is checked during a service align. A little goes a long way

If you trust the meter on the C B. itself, the RF part of the meter gauge is what you will pay attention to.

Your meter hook up will be an S.W.R. / Watt meter. It is a combonation meter. For adjusting the antenna and checking watts.

Folks it's a simple mistake don't give the man a hard time. The tutorial is good!
The modulation pre-set pot is the correct one, just use a vinyl screwdriver and adjust your audio to the mic you are using otherwise you could over/under modulate.
Thank you for the vid mate and hope to catch you on the flip flop good buddy.

for everyone that is making a point of the "clockwise vs counter clock wise" I'm glad you have never made a mistake and maybe you don't need to try this adjustment if you can't figure out that turning it one way increases your modulation and the other decreases modulation. It does require a little bit of higher level thinking skills to figure that out. js

The VR4 in my Cobra 29 NW LTD Classic I had to turn it CCW or to the LEFT. This is a 'limiter', which like in most radios, when you turn it CW it enables more 'limiting', which lowers your audio. 15W "swing" is BS. This guy is something else...

Back in '75 I moved from Florida to Farmers Branch, TX. For 10 days in row, the temp never dropped below 100 degrees, even at midnight. We never had AC in the home or truck(windows always open) and the heat along with 2 to 4 percent humidity was not a problem, compared to Florida's 80 degrees and 90 percent humidity. Dry heat was like a sawna at the spa.🙂

@Justin Partridge What he is doing to the radio only effects transmit it has nothing to do with receive. If your radio is receiving better than someone else's it's because of A: your antenna B: your location compared to there's. C: there receiver is not aligned properly.

I know this video is for people who know nothing about cb tuning. I did this work back in the 70's and 80's for a living. I take a total of 29 parts out of the 29's that hamper the wattage and the modulation. After I am done with them they blow smoke from New York to Los Angeles. I can't say anything on here as you really need the tools and the steady hands to do them the way I do them. Most guys would try it and really mess up their riggs bad. The way your doing it does take the Modulation up some but it still has the circuitry on the board that will still clip the modulation real fast and keep it talking very low range. When I do them people bitch about how loud they are. No garbled up just plain pure sounding and loud.

All these negative comments on a guy who did everything right. The only mistake he made is which direction to turn and. It all depends on the radio thats why you use a meter if it doesnt change one way turn it the other way. Also other videos have said cut the d11 circuit that is wrong if the radio doesn't adjust then you replace not remove this circuit. Good job on the video

Never crank the audio control to max... 75% up. No needle meter can see true audio in a measurement. Use a scope is the only real way. Anything over 100% is just trash and splatter. However most cb types love splatter... so max it out and splash the band.

True. When watts are properly propagated, meaning if I am on frequency 27.185 MHZ. (Channel 19,channels are only a simple reference point to what is really going on and that is the frequency. Yes,this is 11 meter which is what We know as C.B. Radio.) I need to keep ALL of My wattage within that frequency,no bleed over into other frequencies...."Splatter,Ghost Watts, and all the other names.I call it wasted watts." That is why a radio that only does 40-50 watts can kill a radio claiming to be doing 500 watts.Proper propagation requires a hell of a lot more than a handful of meters.

Its counter clockwise on the pod.
Meaning less restriction or less filtering equals more modulation.

What exactly is a "pod" and why does the modulation "pod" look so much different than the final "pod"? How does turning the "pod" one way or the other affect the circuit and cause the increase in modulation or RF output? I've looked everywhere on my schematic for a "pod" but all I can find are variable resistors, variable capacitors, and variable inductors. Am I looking at the wrong thing maybe?

    • @jlmoo1

No. Right on, that is what the vr stands for. The numbers is the value of the variable resistance. You got this what your reading or learning is correct. 73s

@@jfrphoto01 LOL, I posted that 5 months ago. Since then, I pitched the Cobra and bought a Stryker 955HPC. Then I had it peaked and tuned. I have it in my Jeep right now. The SWR is under 1:2. I live in Texas and I've talked to folks in Kentucky, Oregon and some other states, on a fairly regular bases when I'm on the Upper & Lower Sidebands. Of course, it's all skip, but even on the CB, I've talked to drivers as far away as a confirmed 15 miles, ('as the crow flies').
The 955HPC isn't cheap, but it's the last radio I'll ever need to buy. It's built solid and I use an RK-56A mic with it.

by turning that pot all you are doing is messing with your harmonics in your radio that is part of the alignment of the radio by turning one you're taking all the other l out of alignment

Best Cobra was the 2000GTL or the 148GTL, and those were actually made by Uniden, it just had the Cobra name and features. Uniden made the chassis and boards for Cobra up until 2010 or somewhere around that era and Uniden also made the chassis and boards for Realistics. When Uniden stopped making the internals for Cobra, their (Cobra) radios went to shit, cheap quality parts, horrible soldering, lots of strange red loctite looking crap on all the screws and other places, they're just a damn cheap ass mess now.
