Around the holidays people always talk about all the fun with Christmas and celebrating together. I grew up with friends who had families who did this and I have struggled as an adult with holiday blues because my experience was very lonely growing up during this time because my parents are southeast Asian immigrants and they don't celebrate. It felt so isolating to see all my friends talking about their families and exchanging gifts and having a good time. I'm trying to do better as an adult and make myself find ways to celebrate but it is still hard because of memories from childhood. ❤

I can relate so much 💗 I grew up with just my dad, and even though we tried to follow the western 'celebrations', I was always reminded more during xmas that it was only us two, with our family in China far away, and seeing everyone else with their whole family gathering made me so lonely. Now being grown up, I still feel the pressure to make the holiday 'perfect' for everyone and celebrate but to some degree it feels so forced and makes me more anxious than enjoying the actual holiday. Hope you can find your ways of celebrating 🎄 It gives me so much comfort seeing others share similar experiences and knowing I'm not the only one who struggles around this period
how you care for your pets is so sweet.
My friends and I make a blanket fort every year on New year's eve! We do dinner, drinks, and share what we accomplished the past year and what our goals are for the next year! In my many years of blanket fort making, a nice sturdy coat rack, string lights, cinder blocks and clips can really help.

You are spot on… the holidays can bring a sense of gloom, and seasonal depression is a real thing. For me I lost my mom around the holidays some years back but I find putting a Christmas tree up and the beautiful lights and creating a theme of decorations for your tree is always helpful.. I love sitting on the couch with the lights off and the tree lite makes the holidays seem beautiful.. sometimes it’s just the simple things ❤️ best wishes

I totally agree with your sister's approach. Holidays are what you make them :) For me, the end of the year isn't that different from the rest of the year but I just try to make everyday life a bit cozier and then appreciate the small, magical moments that inevitably do happen

Holidays used to be the best. Dad was in Armed Forces. The was always an airman at the table with use so he was with a family and not alone. I miss this and most especially my Parents should have enjoyed it more while I had it. I love you Mom an Dad ❤️
Yess!! You've described what I've been going through literally to a tee (even with the grandparents and our pets not doing well 😭) Usually I love the holidays, I get to see my family and catch up with friends but it's been hard to look forward to that when I've been going through so much 🥺

I love the holidays! My parents were Asian immigrants but my mom tried very hard to make sure we had an "American" Christmas. This included visiting Santa at the mall, setting up the tree and presents on Christmas morning followed by lunch with relatives. But my husband (also second gen) had a much less festive holiday experience. I always feel awful when we compare our childhoods, but at least we can celebrate holidays together now. :)
I'm definitely feeling pressure and anxiety around the holidays. That would lead to my feeling down and depressed when I feel overwhelmed. Listening to Christmas music and watching Christmas movies tend to lift my spirit. And cookies, of course!

I love the idea of new traditions. I think that's a great idea. Traditions are usually tied to our childhood, so it's beautiful to see you doing something different. Also, where did you get your comforter for under the fort? It's beautiful.

My parents never celebrated Christmas. My mom loves colors, holidays, and decorations but my dad grew up mostly homeless when he was young so he doesn't like to celebrate anything except Lunar New Year. So my entire life living with my parents, we never really did anything. Only at my cousins' home. However, school sparked a joy in me for the holidays. So as I got older and after I left my parents' house, I find ways to decorate, celebrate, and enjoy with others. Seeing theights and cute decorations help cheer me up for this generally depressing season. I usually get into funky moods every now and then starting in August or September until about March or April. I'm a girl who loves warmth and sunshine, so when it gets gloomy, dark, and cold; I have to find my own ways to make me and my husband's home feel warm. I grew up sort of poor. Right now, my husband and I are struggling financially because of unexpected home expenses. 😮💨
So I agree, definitely start whatever traditions you like and need that makes you feel happy. Even if it's for a short while. 😊❤️ So Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or Happy Indoor Tent with String Lights Season!

Hi Weylie! Holiday blues are tough, idk what your beliefs are or your feelings on it but try attending a Christmas Eve service or Christmas Day service at a local church. There’s a joy that you’ll feel seeing families gather, holiday songs being sung, and even the decorations around the church. Cheers ❤
Growing up the only festive thing my family did was gather for the holiday , eat and open presents (even if they were just chocolates). We didn’t have much disposable income so it wasn’t easy to do as many things I saw in mainstream media or other friends did.
Now that I’m older I’ve “claimed” Christmas as my holiday of choice where I become festive with my partner. We started all our own holiday traditions how we would have wanted to grow up. We are very lucky to now have the money to do some of these things like get Christmas decor or even cut down a fresh tree every year. But some other things we do is get roasted chestnuts, host Xmas at our house, come up with holiday games with our friends, bake Xmas cookies/ decorate them, gingerbread house competitions, and go see lights!
The holidays used to be a kind of depressing time for me, and as I’ve gotten older with more family out of touch, I’ve really made it a priority to bring people together, even if it means I have to deal with the logistics.

Holidays growing up was depressing. The only reason I put up with it now is for my kids.

Hi weylie , I’m so happy to watch your videos again, I also feel the same way about bout end of year .. and elderly getting sick except that I did imagine it being a wonderful time to end , but unexpectedly my mom got sick and is at hospital. Right now just being strong and hoping for my moms recovery and returning home ! That’s all I wish for this Christmas. :.( little did I knew my family we will have to face my mom going through this but praying and hoping for the best . You bring me comfort .. and I hope everything goes well for you as well . ❤️❤️❤️

I was born in the Philippines, and in Filipino culture it's a huge thing to celebrate Christmas eve and NYE with family. So I was used to being around my family every year. But sadly, I don't have all of my family here in the Bay Area, so for me... I get sad around the holidays, esp. because I spend it alone.
How did you teach your dogs not to go for food that isn’t theirs? I’m amazed that you had all that food on the floor (including grapes!!!) and none of the dogs went for it. Please let me know your tips and tricks on how you trained your dogs!!
Mele Kalikimaka Weylie & 'Ohana. Here in Hawaii we have many family gatherings. We have musicians in our family so we sing along to holiday music and dance hula. Eat alot of local Hawaii food, and some traditional Hawaiian foods. Everyone kokua, or helps with this holiday tradition. It's wonderful that your sister has begun her own holiday traditions. ✨🎄😊
