Hi Friends, in this video I wanted to talk about one of the most important things in Building your Career. Every day I get asked about how to get work and how to grow and maintain relationships. It’s as simple as responding to people in a timely manner, following through with commitments and meeting deadlines. Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi Aaron, thanks for your great comment! I have never looked for work like that, but I can imagine it would be very frustrating to have 'Producers' and 'Mixer' pitching you all the time! I still believe you create amazing work, get it out there and people come to you. It's about making ourselves available, showing off great work! You as the Artist should be free to choose your Producer or Engineer! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Aw shucks thanks ever so much IWant Appledumplings!! Yes!! The positive will always win, we surround ourselves with like minded people! I love this community, truly blessed that we are all here helping each other! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi Darlene, thanks ever so much! Let's help each other in this community to grow together! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks Alto Fox, I really appreciate that very much! Yes, let's all be a positive help to each other! Grow together and make this amazing community even better still! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
It IS a great time to make music and there are so many people with great attitudes in this community, it makes it a lot easier to participate and connect. Much Love!!
Thanks Frederick! I agree! It's an amazing community, we are so blessed to have so many like minded people around us who are willing to learn and share information freely! Have an amazing 2017! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Robert McClellan you are very welcome my friend! So glad to be a part of this community! Everyone is incredibly helpful to each other! Thanks for being a big part of that my friend! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Thanks ever so much Lysdexia! I appreciate your great comment! You are most correct! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Wise words; I'm reminded of the 'mise en place' (preparation) in cooking...a sign of respect to the customer and one's profession. I learnt a lot of transferrable skills in hospitality/catering that have proved useful when working with artists or remotely, even in a home/project studio. Looking back on the last year: I really enjoyed the studio tours, the obsession with gear, and the mentoring through technique and studio lore. Thanks so much Warren and crew; much appreciated. Seasons Greetings and best wishes for 2017 : -)
Wow thank you Arthur! That's so very kind of you!! Great analogy! I wish you all the best in your musical journey my friend! You've had a wise word and have given insight and support! I've seen you comment on other peoples videos and even when their message is negative your leave a post comment! My hats off to you and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours! Here's to an amazing 2017!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Darlene Sheffield I agree entirely! Arthur has been a wonderfully positive influence in the recording community here online! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Sitting up eating brekky not even 6am getting ready to do sound for a film shoot - Warren, what perfect timing to be watching this video! Love the work you've done here. Inspiring, helpful, all the positive things!
Hi Tiarna, fantastic! So glad to hear I helped! This is a lesson I've learned from much smarter people than myself that inspired me! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
This video has definitely been added to my favorites! I'll be very blunt. I'm not the greatest musician-songwriter/engineer out there, probably barely scrapping the surface of greatness but I get lot of opportunities because I SHOW up. Even if it takes a 2 hour bus ride, I'll be there, on time. It sounds silly because it is so simple. Being organize, reliable & delivering makes people wanna come back to you. Again, loved this video & thankful for the great quality content you put out here for us every time!🙌🙇
Hi Maria, thanks for the amazing comment! Exactly! You work because people love working with you, you are positive reliable and encourage creativity! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I couldn't agree more! I come from live sound engineering and there are a lot of musicians, that hate the sound guys... just because the had bad experience with some. And when you get a good sound on FOH and on monitors more than just for one gig they are very happy, because the start to rely on you. I like that. I mean how difficult can it be, to just be polite to the guy who pays you? Always give your best and try to make things possible. Thanks Warren!
Hi Moritz, agreed 100%! When I meet that great sound guy, Matt Butcher is one, that gets it, makes the artist feel confident and has a great manner all the time, they are worth their weight in gold!! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Lior Samson that means a lot my friend! I am not an expert, I'm just another one of us out there hustling making this work! I want us all to grow together and help each other! This is such an amazing community! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Quite inspiring! I too have been a firm believer in being as organized and reliable as possible to make life better. I wish you the best in the upcoming year and thank you for the helpful videos, Warren!
Hi DustinBlade, thanks for your amazing comment! I wish you an amazing 2017 as well!! I am so glad to be able to help and look forward to growing with you all in this community! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks Warren I've been watching your videos and learning in school as well. I totally agree UA-cam has changed so much in a positive way. We are indeed blessed. Thanks for the tutorials it helps people like me who are starting out build up skills.
Hi Adam, agreed 100%!! UA-cam has opened up a huge world of learning! We are all blessed to be able to share information between us!! I love the positive community we have here! It's truly a blessing! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks ever so much Andii! I wish you all the best in 2017! We are blessed to have positive people like you in this community! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi Warren: Best of the season to you! Just wanted to say thank-you for such a varied and rich series of informative, engaging and entertaining videos. Gaining "insider" access to some of the best studios around - along with owners, producers, musicians, engineers and mixers is a rare thing and much appreciated. I'm also gobsmacked by the number and frequency of videos you post! You obviously follow your own mantra by being organized and reliable. Don't know how you manage to do it - but it's certainly impressive. Cheers from Canada, Ken
Hi Ken, in Canada! Thank you very much! I am blessed that I love what I do! This year I've made a lot of albums, Produced them, Mixed them, played on them, written on them, truly blessed! I also love making videos! Haha What could be better than hanging out with talented people talking music? Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thx Warren: You're a humble man but your list of accomplishments is rather impressive. Now that's time well spent! Time to get off my lily-white ass and do more. :) I'm curious about Henson Studios. Have you ever done anything with them as part of Produce...? (Searched but didn't find anything). I became interested in Henson (aside from its rich past) after seeing behind the scenes sessions as part of NBC's "the Voice". They're quite prolific - recording singles of each of the contestants/finalists - with songs performed exceedingly well, in a multitude of genres. The turnaround time for rehearsal, band tracks, vocals and mix must be extremely demanding. ...Just a suggestion (if you haven't covered already).
Hi Ken, you are too kind my friend! I haven;t filmed at Henson, but I have worked there, tracked strings there and mixed there. It's a beautiful studio! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks again Warren for the gift of information that you're always happy to give! It's so cool to hear that Academy members are working with you and your staff at Spitfire, that there is a sure sign of great things to come! Thanks for all you've done for me in 2016, can't wait to see what's to come from the year ahead.....YOU ROCK!
Thanks very much Ajay! You Rock my friend! You're always an amazingly positive source of encouragement here for so many people! Yes, we have had Academy Members working on music I'm working on! That's amazing! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Nanobeatz _tz aw shucks thanks ever so much!! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
love the insight and wisdom Warren. my wife was sitting here on her phone and she leaned over and said "this guy is speaking the truth". lol my wife is very organized
Haha that's fantastic No Filler Words Productions! Great to hear!! Your wife, like mine, must be quite wise indeed! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I totally agree. The call backs don't come in for guys who don't show up prepared. Just did my first mix for PLAP and the feedback was useful and conducive to making my next mix better! Thanks Warren!!
Aw shucks thanks very much Steve! I love this community we have here! It's extremely supportive, blessed that we can share our experiences and learn from each other! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi Byas moise haw once, you're most welcome! So glad to be able to help!! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks, Warren. I have been watching your videos for the past few months and they've all been superb. This is great advice to take into the New Year. Wishing you a happy New Year. All the best.
Warren, you couldn't be more correct! Simple sound advice... My dad told me "making a million dollars looks a lot like hard work...not everyone makes a million dollars son...perhaps you could?" I'd put being organized and reliable squarely in that bucket of hard work!
For now I'm just a student learning how to mix and master, and seriously agains the loudness wars btw. I'm usually an organized person and try to be as reliable as I can be, but I'm not exactly positive . . . or I wasn't. Since I started searching for information through sites, texts and videos (like your channel) has taught me how much people are willing to help others just for the sake of helping. This opened my eyes and made me wonder: Why don't I just throw that negativity away and try to help others, just like the way these people do it? Obviously Warren, you're one of those people, so, thank you so much, see you next time.
Many thanks for all you do for us Warren. 'Be Organised And Reliable' has worked well for me too. Wishing you a Happy New Year......from Bill in Wales, UK.
48snapper thanks Bill in Wales! I love Wales, I spent many Summers in Pembroke! Very beautiful part of the world! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Wow, rarely seen someone hit the nail on the head more than ten times in a row in such a short and incredibly wellspirited youtube video. These are indeed words from a pro. All the best man. Greets from a Belgian musicmaker, Laurent
Aw shucks Laurent that's extremely kind of you to say! I love keeping it positive and supportive! It's so easy to find fault in anything and to resort to that shows huge narrow mindedness and really holds one back! The most successful people I've worked with are the most open minded and support people! Let's help one another to grow and get better and better! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren P.S. Happy New Year!!
Thanks very much Laurent! I was actually pretty amazed, when you listen to the files and you find the takes where you were the most equidistant to each Mic, the VMS 47 sounds a lot like the Wunder!
Thanks UnderGunned Productions! So glad to be able to help!! It's inspiring for me to get these amazing comments! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
You're most welcome Grant! I have to be reminded of this stuff as well! I want everyone here to get the most out of their careers! This is all about having an amazing comment that supports each other! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thank you Earl! I appreciate your kind words! Here's to a wonderful and Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
A good reminder! Thanks! What to do, though, when someone else is not on time, not prepared...not reliable? As someone once said, "it's never a problem...unless there's a problem!" What does one do when there IS a problem? How do you handle it?
taopagan huge question! If a client is a big problem and causes you an enormous amount of additional work sometimes you just have to cut them lose. Finish the work and then either charge them significantly more the next time around or just don't work with them anymore. Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Wonderful and Encouraging advices....my sincerily thanks, in the few 8 years that im working in this great job of making sound and music, im experienced that this IS the diference between be a great engineer and be the engineer who actually call for the job!! thanks a lot, your words really motivate me to keep growing...(excuse my awful writing....because im chilean, resident in Ecuador heheh), have a nice day!!
Thanks ever so much luispower1979! I really appreciate your kind words!! Glad you enjoy the message, this is an amazing community here we are blessed to have each other to share information with! Have an amazing 2017! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Thanks Marlon, I really appreciate your support! I know that's truly amazing! Nearly 100k subscribers in slightly over 2 years! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Hey Warren!!! As always you give us so GREAT information! Any advice on how to get online freelance gigs ?? (like you mention... that today may be you never meet in person the artist ... How can I achieve that point? :D
Wise words sir. I belive in building bridges and building relationships with artist. If you work with someone, writing, mixing, producing or remixing, promote their new single on your sosial media channels, facebook, twitter and so on, be proud of their work, (even if you secretly don't like their new single too much). Post a link on twitter, facebook and others with a link to iTunes and others. Press like on their posts on facebook, and write some positive feedbacks in the comments. People will remember you for doing this, and they might check out YOUR music on sosial media, follow you on soundcloud, sub on youtube, and so on. Don't ever be another stranger to people you want to work with. Be nice and positive and people will be nice and positive in return
Hi Curtiss1965, agreed 100%, building relationships is paramount to a successful career! Your views on Social Media are spot on! Get yourself out there!! Great advice my friend! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
You come across as such a genuine guy. I love what you say about community. I have commented before about how all the industry guys I follow on UA-cam and social media know each other, then you go and release a vid with Matt Starr who I recognise through Phil X! **edit** and Smiley Sean of course! I hope to work with you one day!
GretschGod thanks ever so much! I really appreciate your kind words! Yes, Matt rules! He's a great guy! Have an amazing 2017! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Thanks ever so much Tiege, I really appreciate it! This is a fantastic community that's so supportive! You Rock! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
+Produce Like A Pro I agree, it's helped me so much, I've recently got into the recording side of stuff thanks to you! It's crazy how I never knew everything that went into a good mix, but now I can appreciate and understand engineers and producers much better :)
That is fantastic to hear Tiege! I agree this community is truly fantastic! So happy to be a part of it! Glad to have you here! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hey Warren! Been lazy and watching subs on the ps4 and haven't been engaging. Just wanted to drop a line and say great content as usual and always look forward to the next upload! Thanks for what you do, bro!
Also wanted to add, I'm a paramedic in my day job. Reliability is paramount. We don't get to call in and take our sick days. It's either on or off and no in between.
My hats off to you my friend! Paramedic is an amazingly tough job, my wife was a Paramedic before being a Flight Attendant! You're a badass my friend!! Here's to an amazing 2017! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Again thank you for these great edvices! Im a musician and producer for my own music as well I produce some of my friends music. I get better and better in it. I completely can underline your statements and think as well these tips and advices you gave are really important and beautiful! Im workin on a new song of mine called "INK" I produce for my Artistyoutubechannel "Dante Rox" so Im excited to share it with you in the end of the year/beginning of January! You are amazing and of course I share this video on my G+ page with my musician friends and others. Community is important! To support each other is important as well I also say it so often. So far your welcome to listen to "It's you - Dante Rox" as long "INK" is not out jet. I enjoy your videos a LOT! Thank you! - Dante Rox PS: Good comes out of nothing!
FromAshToPhoenix I agree 100% my friend! Community is very important indeed! I am blessed that so many of you are here to help each other, help us all grow together! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Good morning Warren. This video is very inspiring. I'm a new subscriber. Been following for about a week. I watch your videos every day. I'm a touring drummer and have recently been drawn more into the session side. I subscribed to your channel to learn what a producer looks for and how to create a track that sounds great, and so far I love what I'm learning. I'm not going to go crazy in this message but I'd love a chance to share with you my gear. The mic's and recording equipment I have available to me and see if you have any suggestions. Thank you for being Marvelous !!!
Hi Randy, you Rock my friend! So glad you enjoy the videos! I really enjoy making them! It takes apt of work to do them between Producing music, but I believe it's really important to give back and be extremely supportive! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Promethean Man thanks ever so much! Agreed! I love to focus on the important things not get caught up in all of the negative not picking stuff that a lot of people get caught up in! That really holds you back! The community here is amazing! Truly blessed to be a part of it! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Awesome content (again), Warren. As I only do 'demos', stuff for promotional purposes, and track it myself I always meet the artist. Staying organised and maintaining those relationships is difficult for me as I have a full daytime job (12 hrs a day). To follow up on your videos on home recording and mastering, a video on loudness and new LUFS standards for digital and streaming services would be nice :)
Hi Willem, I feel pretty sure your demos are fantastic! Your demeanour and general attitude would point towards someone who gets a lot of work and will grow their resume! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi Warren, I found your channel about 2 months ago and really think you have some of the most valueable content out there with the real-pro tips and techniques. You really touched an important subject for me that is remote working and colab. I´m a (home)recording/live sound engineer based in Lima-Peru. I also run a video production company with a partner(my "main" business), work as a DJ almost every week and own a small (for now) PA rental. I've also dome some work mixing audio for documentaries ans such. I must say that out of all of this my passion is the audio related work, Live and recording/mixing. I ussualy travel to LA once a year to visit friends that are (starting) on the music bussines. While in LA I allways try to meet people related to the industry but my friends will tell me everytime that if you wanna work on the industry you HAVE to move to LA. Do you have any advise on how to start a career without being in the city? Thank you Warren, really like your channel and all the great content in it, greetings from Lima - Perú.
thank you for sharing knowledge and experience, it is truly precious, this video about being reliable and organized made me wonder what is the best practice for a person after harm is already done, whole day of recording is not even messed up but lost? How much of that 'mess' is if not acceptable but may be at least on the 'excusably' side? How to patch over it and go on (of course, quitting is not an option at all)?
Thanks Asta, great question! You answered the question at the end there! Don;t give up, just work through the issues and you will build a lasting relationship and trust with the people you work with! Here's to a wonderful and Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks for reply, your help is a true wonder! And thanks for review on Lewitt mics, this led me to try it and they are incredible, it feels like a magical relationship for a long time. Happy New Year!
Hi Asta, fantastic! Yes I am really impressed with them! They make amazing mics for an extremely affordable price! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
may i bother you with another question please - being around wonderful sound engineers for about 7 years, i am on my own now, and it's hard on mental and psychological side, responsibilities, social interactions, lack of experience - can you share some insights about it? I feel guilty about the fact of 'being on my own' then i don't deserve to be a lowest technician actually, and simultaneously I don't want to go back, obviously.
Wow huge question! I would say if you enjoy working with others then you should, get an intern and train them as your assistant, they will help you become more successful in the long term! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Looks like you may have got some rest this weekend. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas.Reliability is THE foundation of a good relationship with a client. It also creates a flexible atmosphere based on trust. With my long time clients from my day job if something happens with my life, truck trouble, sick, kid late to school, it doesn't matter. They are more concerned with my well being than the schedule because they have a history with me being reliable, and they trust the job is going to be 100% top notch. And THAT make life SO much less stressful and more enjoyable.
Hi Loren, I got a little rest! Haha Not too much I have young kids! Haha I hope you're well my friend! I look forward to working with you very soon! You succeed because you are a reliable and extremely positive person that people want to be around! That's a hugely important trait my friend! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Of course Loren! I meant every word my friend! I appreciate all of your support! You ROCK! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
wise words warren :) I believe if ppl would implement this in their marriage more couples would stay together..hehe Have a marry xmas and a happy new year and thank you for this marvelous channel :)
That Bob is a very true statement indeed!! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Agreed Johnny! Thanks for pointing that out my friend! Here's to a wonderful and Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi no reaction, great comment! I do like DropBox, personally I use Hightail, but DropBox does also work! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks oldskoolfunkandsoul1!! Great to hear about your career! Wonderful to have successful people here helping everyone else! Community is key! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Awesome advice. What's your suggestion for sending and receiving session files, .wav, mp3's, etc. if working remotely, since usually email attachments can't handle those large sizes ? Thanks again.
Tim Flagstad great question! Some people love DropBox, I use Hightail, but both work great! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Hey Warren thank you my friend for the wonderful advise....like all of your advice I will put it to good use and practice it every chance I get! On a side note who would actually down vote this? I mean seriously is your life that miserable that if makes you feel better about yourself to hit the dislike on a video like this? I honestly hope things get better for you, I truly do!
Hi MADMANMUSICINC, thanks ever so much! I am so glad to able to help! As for down voting, not everyone wants to believe that being positive and working hard are what makes us successful. I try to point towards the success stories of my fellow professionals in the music industry, but unfortunately some people also benefit from perpetuating the negativity. I really hope that this community can help many more people!! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
You are speaking about a subject that seems like common sense to me, but I guess it needs to be said. You can be extremely good in IT at your company, but you still need to be able to communicate nicely with your colleagues. This is also something companies want today when they employ new people into their positions.
Hi Bjørnar, agreed 100%! It is common sense, however it gets ignored too much unfortunately. There is too much negativity out there, I want us to be more supportive of each other! There's a lot more work than people imagine, so let's be supportive of each other! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi Mehmet, they are gone! haha I now use the Unity's and Genelec's exclusively! The Unity's are what has replaced the NS10's. Have an amazing 2017! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Have a wonderful 2017 Warren :) Have a marvellous time recording and mixing to you too,god bless you man! I am going to buy my first 1176 Compressor finally on the second month of new year, I am so happy heyyy :) I will finally enter the terrority of nice, big, clean, forward vocals with more evenly printed waveforms haha :)
Hi Mehmet, fantastic! Enjoy the 1176!! That sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun recording my friend! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Michael Jackson was renouned for putting extra hours in, look at his success, it speaks for itself, it's about hustle combined with natural talent, when you have that you are unstoppable.
Ben Tyreman wow thanks!! Agreed 100%! It's all about the drive to succeed and having support of people around you! This is such a wonderful community! I feel blessed to be a part of it! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Hi Bruce, it scares me too!! I know what everything is and I'm still terrified!! Have an amazing 2017! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Thank you for making this video Mr Warren. This video speaks to me a thousand times as this has always been my philosophy every day in my career. As I always reply to my clients/friends/musicians/producers I treat every client the same way with the same respect, enthusiasm, passion & energy in every project. Really appreciate your videos and seeing you stay humble and connected to the new generation and sharing these wonderful inputs is Priceless. 2016 has been an amazing one filled with substantial & helpful videos and wish that 2017 will have much more ;-) Thank you so much once more. Best ;-) Have a marvelous holidays & see ya in 2017 soundcloud.com/officialmy
Thanks Moilim, that is so wonderful to hear! I agree 2016 has been a great year for me interns of musical growth and I have really enjoyed being able to make theses videos! To see the channel near 100k Subscribers after 2 years is truly amazing and I owe it to you all! Thanks for all of your wonderful support! Here's to an amazing 2017 for this amazing community! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hey Warren.. I could use your help and advice! I am currently undergoing some big changes in my own home studio.. Im getting to the point where I am ready to upgrade a lot of my gear.. Im currently running Pro Tools on a 2012 macbook pro with a very old Digidesign Mbox 2. As I producer I am recording people quite a bit but I am a budding composer of film/tv and I'm already working a bit in this field as well. I do plan to do a masters degree in this subject in a year or two though, so the problem is running tonnes of instrument samples and plugins requires a lot of power and trying to do this on my macbook has taken it to its limits. So, I have a bit of money to spend now and I plan to get a Mac Pro that will see me out for the next few years. But I also need to buy a new interface, as the Mbox is hideously outdated and also I would like more than two mic inputs. I was looking at the UAD Apollo 8 and I was wondering if you thought this would be a good choice for the next step in building up my studio. I have a good range of microphones already and the Apollo seems to have some very nice mic pres on it. So with 4 mic inputs it seems like a good choice. The other alternatives of course are something from focusrite for example. Either way.. is there any other gear you would recommend me getting at this stage? Don't get me wrong I know you have always said creativity trumps gear and I have always agreed with you, Im just getting to the stage now where my gear is letting me down and holding me back.. Many thanks as always, this was a great video with some very valuable lessons! Something I really resonated with was when you were talking about how people skills are so important to success. Even at my level in the industry I have found this to be true already! Thanks again and have Happy New Year! P.s Apologies for the essay, I hope you take the time to read this as you usually do haha!
Hi ibanezman04, great question! I have an Apollo 8 I use with my Lap Top, I really like it, I also have a Focusrite which I also love! I would say the Apollo is a great option for you!! I was actually pretty amazed, when you listen to the files and you find the takes where you were the most equidistant to each Mic, the VMS 47 sounds a lot like the Wunder!
Produce Like A Pro Thanks for replying as always, I really appreciate the advice! What sort of other gear would you recommend getting next for someone in my position who is moving into the semi professional studio market? Thanks again!
Hi ibanezman04, I would stay with the DAW you know and get the best IO you can. How many inputs would you need? If you aren;t doing live drums then 2-4 maximum would easily be enough. Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Produce Like A Pro Yeah I'm a pro tools user.. I figured the Apollo could give me the much needed upgrade, where I'll have nicer preamps and more inputs and those great plugins.. but I could always buy another multiple mic pre rack later on, should I start recording drums or larger groups of instruments.
Hi Mike! Do it! Learn to Produce, Play and Write your music all by yourself!! That's fantastic! I wish you all the best! Have an amazing 2017! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Thanks again Warren for making it positive! For bringing us the light! This community is about support! Bring on 2017!!!
Words of wisdom !! Thank you Warren !!
Not only does this channel provide us with so much information but wisdom as well. Thank you Warren!

Top man offering useful advice for all walks of life, not just music.
Thanks, Warren - keep on!
Arthur you are a fixture here you leave great comments we learn from everywhere !! Very happy you are here !!
Thanks and happy new year to you, too!
Thanks Moritz!! Here's to a wonderful and Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
You are one of the best things that happened to UA-cam and just in general. Thanks for everything
Your saying the truth..Warren Keep Pushing the great Vibes!

Kevin Coulter thanks very much! You are 100% correct my friend! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Totally agree Ken!
Thanks Ajay! You Rock! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thx Warren: You're a humble man but your list of accomplishments is rather impressive. Now that's time well spent! Time to get off my lily-white ass and do more. :)
I'm curious about Henson Studios.
I Consider this Christmass/New Year gift from you, thank you Warren, I needed this.

Josh Sheffield agreed 100%! Be positive and respect your artist and their vision! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren

Shotty 4HF thanks ever so much! Glad you are enjoying the channel! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Warren, you couldn't be more correct! Simple sound advice... My dad told me "making a million dollars looks a lot like hard work...not everyone makes a million dollars son...perhaps you could?" I'd put being organized and reliable squarely in that bucket of hard work!
Hi ckjjclan, your Dad is a very wise man indeed!! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thank you
That's 'sound' advice! :p I'll show myself out.
Haha yes indeed! Very 'sound advice'...I'll get my coat! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
+Produce Like A Pro full support! You're 100% right
Thanks very much Laurent! I was actually pretty amazed, when you listen to the files and you find the takes where you were the most equidistant to each Mic, the VMS 47 sounds a lot like the Wunder!
awesome info Warren!!
Thanks very much Eric! Glad to be able to help! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks for the business advice. It definitely is one of the most important business skills to have. I have been enjoying the content on your channel.

Love your vids and love your energy! I just turned a friend of mine on to your channel and he is from Manchester area. Again, "thank's ever so much"!
Thank you Earl! I appreciate your kind words! Here's to a wonderful and Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
A good reminder! Thanks!
What to do, though, when someone else is not on time, not prepared...not reliable?
As someone once said, "it's never a problem...unless there's a problem!"
What does one do when there IS a problem?
Wise words! Thanks Warren!
Thanks ever so much noisesoundtonevibe!! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

Haha loved the Gretzky quote!
Thanks Alex! Haha funny from an Englishman who knows nothing about Hockey! haha Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
yes thats right. relying on an organisation is quite a serious thing. a sacred thing even
Cheers Warren :) useful advice
Hi Fat Sam! Thanks ever so much for your great comment! I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
My hats off to you my friend! Paramedic is an amazingly tough job, my wife was a Paramedic before being a Flight Attendant! You're a badass my friend!! Here's to an amazing 2017! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Produce Like A Pro I had no idea. Small world! Much love, sir!
Yes indeed Fat Sam! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Enjoy the positivity
Ah shucks. Thanks for that. Picked up my day.
Of course Loren! I meant every word my friend! I appreciate all of your support! You ROCK! Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
wise words warren :)
I believe if ppl would implement this in their marriage more couples would stay together..hehe
Have a marry xmas and a happy new year and thank you for this marvelous channel :)
That Bob is a very true statement indeed!! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
hell yeah, this is so true even for people who are not in this bisnis
Agreed Johnny! Thanks for pointing that out my friend! Here's to a wonderful and Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Personally I use Dropbox for remote work, but what do you use for sending session data over the internet in a secure fashion?
Hi no reaction, great comment! I do like DropBox, personally I use Hightail, but DropBox does also work! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
have had a good career, done years of artists development and it's all true. I've just shared this. 👍
Agreed. Happy new year!
superbly
Hi esdras, thanks! Most superb response my friend! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hey Warren, what happened to the NS-10's :) and could you tell what are those new black ones that replaced NS-10's
Your patchbay scares me (I'm assuming that's what I am seeing). Have a good holiday.
2016 has been an amazing one filled with substantial & helpful videos and wish that 2017 will have much more ;-)
Thank you so much once more. Best ;-)
Have a marvelous holidays & see ya in 2017
soundcloud.com/officialmy
Thanks Moilim, that is so wonderful to hear! I agree 2016 has been a great year for me interns of musical growth and I have really enjoyed being able to make theses videos! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Wait..... Warren... where did the NS-10s go??
Hi Riley, I'm using the Genelecs and the Unity's only these days!
I figured the Apollo could give me the much needed upgrade, where I'll have nicer preamps and more inputs and those great plugins.. but I could always buy another multiple mic pre rack later on, should I start recording drums or larger groups of instruments.
so true
Thanks Nicholas! Wishing you a Happy New Year! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
