Impressive, fantastic and brilliant interpretation of Maestro Bernstein as a conductor and pianist and also the NYPO ,during his career in the 20th century, Bernstein was recognized worldwide as one of the great conductors as Karajan, Ormandy, Celibedache, Solti, etc., but there were not many references in films performing the same great works on the piano, until the appearance of the the VHS where music lovers began to have the option of watching great concerts, and even more with the appearance of DVDs, now it is so easy, finding absolutely everything digitized, thanks to the wonder of digital technology it is so easy to sit down in your study and enjoy absolutely everything.
Bernstein became the most important figure of the 20th century, especially with his program "young people concerts" that was broadcasted on TV to millions of millions of people around the world during a period of 13 or 14 years, a large number of episodes and topics were covered, many of them not only for children.
Despite that the audio i think is monophonic, it sound brilliant and the 60th video is also great.
My toast to you maestro Bernstein, the XXI century has come to understand that in addition to be a great conductor , your genius has been recognized.

Very crisp and rhythmically driven performance by the orchestra and soloist/conductor. I found it strange to watch though: no female musicians whatsoever!

Sie ist eine gebührende Hommage an den Mann, den Arthur Rubinstein "den größten Pianisten unter den Dirigenten, den größten Dirigenten unter den Komponisten und den größten Komponisten unter den Pianisten" nannte. 🤗 👍 🙏

I totally agree with you. I had a teacher at Juilliard, Joseph Machlis, who said Lenny would die unhappy because he was jealous of others. He wanted to be another Beethoven, as a composer, and he knew intellectually he could never be in that category. It just shows that we should never envy anyone else’s gifts as we don’t know what they’re thinking of themselves. It’s sad to think he may have died as a frustrated musician. Hard to believe, really.

Indeed he did - also a very good public educator and ambassador for music! His TV talks and presentations were groundbreaking, and I remember reading, as a teenager, "The Joy of Music", his debut book, published around this time (1959) which included essays adapted from his TV presentations...A book that made me think too and gave me many impulses, even though I had grown up with both classical and rock music and was already familiar with Bach, Wagner, Handel and Mozart..

In the summer of 1960, Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic went on a very long tour of the U.S., including even Hawaii. They were then featured on a TV series sponsored by Lincoln/Ford (four shows a season), and went to Berlin to present a lecture/performance for this series featuring the Beethoven Concerto no. 1 to a young audience; this was shown in America on Thanksgiving Day. But on the very same day, they did a different performance of the same work, telecast live in Europe, which is what we have here. I don't think it was ever seen here until this upload - vielen Dank!

Say hello too late These days, I just listened to this precious video to prepare for a local performance.
This work was performed with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra on November 29, 1965, and was made available to the world at the age of 22. It is a very impressive video and I am grateful to you.😊

Yes, he hit a few clams, but still, overall I think this is the best performance of this great concerto; to hit a few wrong notes in this live performance hardly detracts from the greatness of the piano playing or conducting and the New York Philly and he are splendid.
