  • I review the Vevor 3 burner forge, it is built to provide an approximate maximum heating temperature of 2462℉/ 1350℃. and has a 25mm thick high purity aluminium silicate fibre insulation with doors to help maintain temperature for a long time. It's a cracking little thing and if you are just starting out will get you up and running straight out of the box. It has a few issues but nothing major for the price.

    Balanced review as always. I gave a Vevor mag drill and it is excellent. I was going to buy the forge but ended up building my own for not much more money with all solid bricks. A pleasure as always

    Thanks Gary. I have a Devil Forge (1 burner) that does the job. I had to spray fixer on the lining and wait 3 days for it to dry. This shows that other approaches are available! Nice informative content as always. A product I will consider for the future.

      According to the instructions the ceramic fibre has been stabilized, and it's "high purity aluminium silicate fibre insulation". Unfortunately coatings like satanite are not available in this country!

    I don't know a huge amount about forges but I've been told you need to coat that insulation with fire cement because it can be toxic. Other than that fantastic review

  • @bc65925

    Coating is reliant on what material they use for liner. I think some of the newer stuff is not as bad but the "K-Wool" but it still helps the longevity of the lining I think. The coating helps to improve the efficiency of the forge and it also prevents fiber floating from the ceramic blanket. One multi-burner gas forge I saw, the documentation with it suggested removing the extra burners if not in use. Not sure about why. One thing about a gas forge, it does heat up the shop in the winter real nice!

      Bill, Crawford here. Do you suppose it could be to prevent the really hot gasses from traveling up the unused burners? That was my first thought.... But I'm not too smart 🤓

      @@dragonstonegemironworkscra4740 Quite probably. I'm certainly not a gas forge go to guy. I didn't figure I'd ever have one but I did buy a Mr Volcano single burner last year. For $88 I couldn't hold off any longer.

    I did some research.
    The main purpose of the refractory cement is to seal the fibers of the kaowool white refractory blanket which is bad to inhale so they won’t blow around .
    The refractory has silicates in it which is bad to inhale until it cements together.
    I don’t know why you couldn’t use clay slurry to coat the Kaowool. Here in Virginia the soil is mostly clay. I think I will give it a try.
    My forge is outside so ventilation is good. If I was doing it inside it would be more of an issue.

  • @dragonstonegemironworkscra4740

    I'd want to give it a squirt if rigidizer and a smear of satanite or ht100 or something similar. 1st to seal the fibers 2 to aid in the refractory ability to keep some extra heat inside, but I'm possibly overthinking things. Looks like a great starting point though! Thanks for the review

    It looks functional, I was told if I purchase this in the states to go ahead and get braided lines and upgrade the gauges. My question is there a follow up video and were you successful using just one burner without damaging the others i.e., backdraft?

      No, I have only used it successfully with all burners alight. The gas flow keeps everything cool. If I don't need the length I use my swan forge.

    I have a 3 burner stove also. It’s nice when you have something quick to do and you don’t want to deal with the coal.
    It gets hot enough to weld, but not so hot that it burns the steel.
    You can paint the insulation with satanite- a refractory cement. The white insulation is hazardous to breathe so wear a mask when you cut it or replace it.
    Be careful with ventilation as I think it makes carbon monoxide.
    Overall, they are very nice.
    Best wishes

    • @jonhowitt4431

      That looks like ceramic blanket and it's really bad stuff if it starts flaking off as the loose fibres can break if you scrape the sides. Devil's forges come with the same ceramic wool and they give you a bag of refractory cement to coat it

    • @jonhowitt4431

      Or rigidiser can be used from vitcas. The fact you could poke a hole in it with a socket means it's still soft....personally I wouldn't use it without any coating on the ceramic wool

    Everything Vevor is junk, really enjoy your channel and understand getting something for free to review, but their stuff is just plain awful 😖 we purchased a 20 ton air over hydraulic jack for our shop press, it was filled only about ⅓ but with brake fluid and not hydraulic fluid 🤬, ended up chucking in garbage where belonged! Just like see you do your thing instead of these reviews.

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  Рік тому +2

      I must disagree slightly, it’s not all junk but it’s not top of the range. It’s the same old story, you get what you pay for. If you compared their prices to mainstream products they are way cheaper so you cannot expect the same performance. They must however be fit for purpose and that is what these review videos are all about, checking out the cheaper products to see if they are worth buying so people like you don’t waste their money. As for watching me doing my thing you would have been bored this week, nothing but dull welding, hour after hour on beaten up machinery!

      @@garyhuston first I hope you didn't take offense to what was said, you are a true craftsman sir and much respect goes along with that...the thing about companies like "Vevor", they just have stuff that has been made in many factories 🏭 in China and probably forced or at least under paid labor, so it's understood why no care taken in products they sell, here in the US people used to be proud of "Made In America", but now as consumer we even have to suspect the label if it says "Made In USA or Assembled in USA" cause we usually get "Assembled in US with "Global Manufactured Parts" meaning it's cheap stuff from most likely China and all companies have to do is put one or two screws in the product and call it Made or Assembled in USA, and sure the same is true where you live as well, and far as watching you do your thing, rather watch you welding than those review videos, but as said before man has to do what he has to do to survive this crazier by the minute world, thank you for all the videos you have made! Ps be careful with that insulation in the forge, watched many videos of building them and they always say the insulation has to be treated so it doesn't get out in air and you breathing it in, stay safe sir!

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  Рік тому +2

      @@honeycuttracing No offence taken at all, I just disagreed with the sweeping statement that all Vevor goods were junk! I totally understand your view, we used to be proud of the "Made In England" labels on everything then in the I guess late sixties everything was labelled "made in Taiwan", then somewhere else and eventually "Made In China." We have become more used to it than you! And yes, needs must these days anything to make ends meet. I will try and do a few more boring videos for you but people may not agree!
      Although I think the insulation in the forge is perfectly ok as it is, so many people have raised concerns I have ordered some rigidizer and will coat it just in case. Happy holidays to you and yours.
