You buy this over the BTR5 if you want more power out of tiny BT adapter and aren't using balanced. Supposedly an app is in development. 3.5 - Single Ended
UP4 - 91mW@32Ω (Boost Mode) The yellow ZEO couldn't find... Cause he was only plugged in balanced and didn't test single ended. BTR5 - 80mW@32Ω ES100 - 35mW@32Ω 2.5 - Balanced UP4 - 160mW@32Ω BTR5 - 220mW@32Ω ES100 - 100mW@32Ω
@Björn Óðinn Sigurðsson You're welcome. I was just filling out the stuff Zeo left out. I still prefer the ES100 to either. The only time I use anything else (when on the go) is when i'm biking or charging the es100. I didn't realize how much I preferred it till I broke it and bought the others in an attempt to buy something more durable. I'll spare the gushing love fest but the layout and phone app compared to the others is just on it's own level compared to the others imo. Balanced it drives just about anything as well. Anything I care to walk around with at least.
Found a place that sells the UP4 for $80 and the BTR5 just went up in price to $150. Only thing I think I'll need from the BTR5 to this is the car mode so I could use the UP4 as usb dac for long sessions safely without damaging the battery much. Any experience on using these for usb dac?
Im having a hard time figuring out why you like the BTR5 better. The Up4 has a nicer form factor, much longer battery life, volume wheel, probably better bluetooth reception and very similar same DAC chips. Also it's cheaper. Is there really a difference in sound quality that makes the BTR5 preferable despite all that? Edit: some further research revealed at least one shortcoming of the UP4 in that it doesnt do hi-res wired usb DAC and it doesnt tell you which bitrate its getting over bluetooth. Sound is apparently a bit warmer on the UP and a bit more forward on the fiio.
I was searching for the measurements of BTR5, M11 and the pro. I guess the reason BTR5 sounds the best is because of higher snr and better thd+crosstalk. I can't believe it measures better than M11 pro.
Does Shanling have some sort of patent to its knobs? Why can't Fiio just add one to theirs though, I really like the control of the UP4 BTW, does the M0 have the same controls?
So i got the UP4 and the boost gain mode only works with unbalanced headphones. Then it uses the 2 amps together And the hole on top isnt a reset hole but a microphone. The multifunction button has 4 functions (for as far as i know) Single press: play/ pause Double press: next track Triple press: previous track And quad press: assistant (like siri or google assistant)
ExpansionGames can you answer is it possible to use up4 with iphone as usb-dac? Or it works as usb dac only with PC? And what digital filters do you prefer and what they mean?
@@andleykin uum well i dont have a iphone so i cant test but right now i use it with the fostex t60rp and like the Linear Phase slow roll-off filter the best it just gives it the slight bass boost it needs. but its all about taste and what headphones your using, so i just go off what sounds best.
The boost mode only comes up if you connect your head phone through 3,5mm, if you use balanced out, it only control high/low gain, no boost mode. Anyway the boost mode single ended only boost like 20mW, from 71to 91mW at 32Ohms, stick with balanced, it's has 160mW output at 32Ohms,s till weaker than the Fiio.
ATTILA THEHUN hi, can it drive both the 2.5mm balanced out and 3.5mm single ended out at the same time? I read somewhere that the FiiO BTR5 can’t drive both outputs at the same time, can someone confirm this, thank you
These Bluetooth amp/DAC gadgets are great. I'm enjoying using my wired headphones and trying new ones instead of always going with the wireless sets. All of these devices need to have an integrated clip or lanyard hole or supply a case in the box. There needs to be a secure way to keep it on your person preferably at chest height.
only sligth below BTR5? then UP4 must be a GO -- I am considering getting it from aliexpress and a correpsonding leather case. BTR5 is now USD 183 in Europe.
Bluetooth cat 🐱 😂 great review, i've destroyed 2 BTR3s dropped one sat on the other, in the market for replacement, BTR5 looks like the winner over UP4, especially considering the Shandling phone app is garbage (from other youtube review). 👍🏽
Update (after another smart person thumb'd up my comment lol ) BTR5 is *perfect* for my use cases. And note: you can invert the device in the clip if you prefer the cable coming out of the top or bottom. ALSO: Works great with my iphone 8+ and iPad Pro 2020 both bluetooth (improved sound maybe?) and USB direct connection *or* with camera kit adapter (sound on USB is obviously best). I'm mainly using it for conference calls / video calls with phone and on the go or running. Rarely use USB (I have 2 other FiiO DAC AMPs for that).
I can't recall the size, but my first mp3 player could not hold one 3min wav file. I pre loaded like 8 rap songs and traded it for an eighth of "dank" to a dude that didnt have a computer.
Hey everyone, new to the high audio field and was curious where do you get your music from I'm currently on tidal and love it but I would also love to have my own music. Any suggestions?
Recently purchased Shanling UP2. I tried this DAC amp with my Mi A1 mobile(Android 9) .Sadly it is not working with aptX or LDAC. The device kept sticking with SBC. Pls give solution to make a use of advanced CODEC.
It says that mi A1 is capable of aptx & ldac, you can activate by going to developer options, on netowrking section. As for the up2, download the shanling app, enable the codecs you want (also disable you don't want), and then it'll auto reconnect.
I just got some Klipsch RP 8000F and im surprised at the lack of bass in my small room could this be due to the 25 watt amp im using or are they supposed to go up against the wall ?
Is the 40-50 dollar price difference Worth it (btr5)?, I'll only be using it with the blon 03 and the up4 has 15 hours of battery life (unbalanced) vs the 9 hours of the btr5. Should I just go with this or should I shell out more money for the btr5?
and then came a guy who likes anything and makes a living out of it, and somehow, in a weird and twisted way this is one of the best news in these trouble times
Man, now I'm torn. I want the scroll wheel because they are just so much better than digital buttons, but the Fiio isn't much more and should sound better. Killing me man.
Love the btr5 but have a small problem, the audio is getting cut off or distorted most likely from the bluetooth connection ??? Or maybe because of the cable that im using (tin t4 with original MMCX Cable) anybody else has this issue ? Or is it just me ?
Yup, I have the same problem with sound distortion on the Btr5 when I cover the device or it's in my pocket getting garbled noises. Guess it's the Bluetooth connection having random problems. Overall great device but the random distortion is f... Up.
