I'll have to get my hands on those at some point. I've shot with the Orion lenses and thought they looked great...just that the flaring was really intense.
Good video. It does seem like there are some drawbacks with these lenses. I am wondering if you think that adding the new Red RF to PL eVND would help some of these issues (assuming you upgrade to the Komodo-X)
Unfortunately these lenses don't come in PL so the RF>PL eVND wouldn't solve the issues with the filtration. Also, the new RED adapter will work with Komodo. I don't plan on upgrading to the X any time soon. Honestly, the Komodo works just fine for the work I do.
Great video as always! It's funny how simple things like uniform lens gear positions and similar weights can be HUGE game changers or influence the purchase/rental. Honestly, it's why I stayed away from Vazen. Awesome lenses with their looks, but once I hit the uniform gear positions of my current lenses, I can't go back, lol! 😆
Thanks for watching. I honestly wonder why they went with such a small design for the 28mm. Not that I don't like the smaller form factor, but such a drastic difference made for such an awkward user experience.
Right on man!!! awesome content.. i have the Vazen 40mm MFT for my Z Cam S6... seems we have similar taste in gear, because I know you use Z Cam too.. your videos have always been a joy,, i was debating on the Vazen or Nanomorph.. having bought the Vazen used @ $2k.. its closer to the price of a new PL mount Nanomorph.. so worth the price for a 1.8x , that has a great blue flare, true front anamorphic with good vertical bokeh and falloff, fast T2.. (though too soft when open) , and another important feature.., barrel concave instead of convex pin cushion distortion.. I still need the front filter and diopters though... because unlike the Nanomorph, it doesn't have a very impressive close focus.. I get the least vignette when shooting 5k 6:5 on the Z Cam instead of 4:3 ....,, even though I'm not too thrilled with how big and heavy this lens is.., I could only afford one lens,,, so i knew 40mm would be the most versatile for me and its a very common focal length for anamorphic.. and one that filmmakers like Wes Anderson and Tarantino use heavily.. I still think I'd like to get a couple Nanomorph lenses now.. I was debating on getting 1 more Vazen.. like the 28.. but it will probably have even more vignetting and im not too thrilled about that.. and although the Nanomorphs are only 1.5x squeeze and convex.., I think the size of them is so compelling.. i'll feel more at ease to just shoot with them even for more casual shooting.. but look wise,, I do feel the Vazens produce the best images for the budget anamorphic lenses.. ( not counting Atlas because that's definitely not budget for me haha) thanks again!
@@joenicklo yea, check em out,, made by Laowa.. they are constant 1.5x squeeze, made for S35.. they are on the sharper side but that might be good for anamorphic.., n just throw in 8th ProMist.., they're T 2.4 except the 27 is 2.8.. all the same distanced gears.., and they have tons of mounts for mirrorless.. the PL/EF version is a little more $ and has more glass to it.. the one draw back was the flares looked hokey.. you can choose blue or amber.. both look kinda fake but now they have silver and it looks more natural n subtle.. lol yikes i sound like a salesman haha
@@joenicklo not yet I need to find a contact for them and try set something up in the new year. So many Anamorphics flying around atm don't have time to test them all 🤣. Also need to try the Proteus! And the Pavos! And the Remus....!
Thank you for posting this! I've had the Vazen 40mm RF for my Komodo for about a month now. I really don't like the vignetting. I'm using the 4:3 17*9 Anamorphic Projects settings. At T2, there is no vignette but the moment you start to increase the T-stops the vignetting gets atrocious in my opinion. I'm editing in Resolve. Any suggestions for the best aspect ratio in project settings in Resolve? Thank you again!
@@joenicklo Definitely! I need to line up a project. I just moved to a new location and finding work is one of the last things on my list of to-do’s, unfortunately. Haha.
i think it would be amazing to try. However i do feel like the top and bottom of the frame was cropped rather than the image being squished and expanded during edit. I would want to put a anamorphic lens on a projector.
I preordered the Atlas Mercury lens because of their uniform design and look, plus a less pronounced flaring. Theyll be my first anamorphic glass

Appreciate it :)

thank you Anson.

Technically that is all 'cine' lens actually means + focus ring declined (nothing to do with quality of glass)
Vazen went out of business unfortunately!
Yep! Sadly
Beautiful video. Perfect structure and realistic review!
Appreciate the compliment.
Well said and great review. I have had the 28mm for years and love it for MFT mount.

Beautiful sample footage and product shots. Have been interested in trying these lenses for a while, great to hear your thoughts on them.
Did you try them out yet?

Great review bro. Which specific Lindsey diaopter model did you use?
Thanks for watching. It was a +1 diopter. I linked it in the description

I've been so tempted to sell all of my lenses and just buy these. 😆
Test them out before you buy :)

Nope, wasn’t cropped.
