Because Christian was last seen losing the midcard title. Works with a baby face that you want to move up the card but not as well with a heel unless the face world champion is about to get a strong win. Imo.
When was the last time you've seen A World champion beaten down 3v1 two weeks in a row, three weeks into a title reign? Not only have they neutered Swerve, they've made him a complete joke. Meanwhile, Pockets can to survive a nuke and stand right back up. All so you can push OceanSpreay and the "Hostile Takeover" of the Lollipop Guild.

Swerve is getting buried just like everybody else who gets over organically in AEW. For all the talk about WWE being the evil empire that mistreats wrestlers, Tony is butchering the careers of wrestlers who aren't his personal favorites or aren't friends with the EVPs.
And the funny thing is they have channel changing go away heat, along with Jericho and Cassidy. Everyone important to Khan doesn’t draw and tv ratings tank with them
It's been that way since Day 1. Danielson would be the same way if he didn't suck up to Tony and the Bucks
I have been saying that for a long time, every time a wrestler gets over by themselves without the help of Clown Khan The Cucamonga Kids or Chris The Bloos Sucker Jericho they get bury to the point those wrestlers never recover from the burial the only one so far has been MJF

I knew that Swerve's run was gonna be a disaster after the first week. When they had him open Dynamite in a meaningless match and then had Plumber Moxley in the main event. They made the Japanese belt look more important than their world heavyweight title.
The Japanese belt is more important since that’s where all of AEW stems from to be fair.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but this is what their world champion, their first black world champion, did since he won the title:

> he then celebrated on Collision, a show with lower views than Dynamite
> he then got beaten up and humilitated on the next Dynamite
> then he got betrayed by his stable on the next Dynamite and got beaten up again
tl;dr he got beaten up twice, lost his stable, got humilated, had a meaningless match, had zero main event moments and gave a celebration that nobody saw

It's funny cause the AEW marks would complain about how Vince buried and butchered wrestlers that organically got over and fans supported ,and how we wouldn't see any of that in AEW. Well look where we at now.

I see that Tony gave Swerve “the acclaimed”treatment of killing his momentum and making him look like a complete goof.
Swerve was laid out going through a table but Orange Cassidy got straight up from a piledriver on the steps.
Even with Collision trying to maintain damage control with Swerve attacking all three Mogul members you can't help but wonder why. Why do they have to destroy the momentum of one of their top stars? And for what? Jack Fuckboy Perry? What a fucking joke.

Re: 5:18. Corny, don't think you were watching the WWE product at this time? It's crazy how many segments Tony Khan is basically rehashing, step for step.
This whole segment was basically a cosplay version of when The Rock turned on Farooq and took over the Nation of Domination. The camera focused on The Rock for a LONG time, who then did an exaggerated People's Eyebrow as a signal to the rest of the Nation after a brawl between him and Farooq and a pullapart. The Nation (Mark/D-Lo/Kama) attacked Farooq partially off-camera just like here. But there, Farooq got the better of Rock BEFORE that happened and it came off that the rest of the Nation was just letting them fight out because of the beef. Which made the turn more shocking.
The extended camera focus on Christian is the exact same thing. He slightly nods as he looks at the guys behind Swerve, as a cue for them to attack. Go back and watch this segment - it's 100% a cosplay version of Rock/Farooq.
At the Dynasty media scrum, Swerve and Tony kept talking about how "significant Swerve's championship win is for AEW."
Right now, he doesn't feel special or important at all. He's just another guy with a title. The AEW audience is starting to see it too.

Remember Ospreay has to face a heel at Wembley. Which means either Christian or Jungleboy as the champ going in. Christian is honestly the lesser evil in that scenario.
I am guessing Osprey will go for the international belt at Wembley. Strong is the only heel champion in the whole company right now

Every week we get to watch Swerve get beaten down 3v1, meanwhile Pocket is surviving career-ending injuries and the Drunk Hobo Moxley is treated like the real World champion.

It has always been noticeable how poorly they book some AEW champions, which not only buries the guy but diminishes the belt. And the nonsensical face/heel turns Tony tries to do makes it worse.

I remember when crowning a new champion was a big deal. After every pay-per-view, the new heavyweight champion would address the crowd on the opening segment of RAW or NITRO.

Here's the thing, you're trying to have a heel faction of four guys The Bucks, Jack Perry and Okada taking over. Wouldn't it make sense to keep the top babyface faction intact which also happens to have four people? The Bucks, Jack Perry and Okada vs Swerve, Brian Cage and the Gates of Agony almost writes itself. You could also very easily have the Gates of Agony challenging the Bucks for the tag titles to give them more spotlight. You could very easily have Brian Cage challenging Okada for his title. Then have Jack Perry get an undeserved title shot against Swerve where the Bucks are tilting the scales. Then have Swerve overcome it. By the time this story plays out he's ready for All In London to go one on one with Will Ospreay.
If you look past the fact that he is getting his ass kicked weekly, and look past the fact that he is feuding with a 50 year old who feuds over the mid card belt, and you look past the fact that he is involved with a fake dinosaur, a teenager who started wrestling yesterday and his mom(for some reason), and you look past the fact that the crowd has cooled off on him, and you look past the fact that he was laid out forever, and you look past the fact that his championship is treated as meaningless, and look past the fact that this company is putting another company's belt over their own, and you look past the fact that he is being booked as a side story of the young bucks, and you look past the fact that he finally lost his stable only for them to show back up only for them to jump him, and you look past the fact that of all times to turn on Swerve, it doesn't logically make sense for them to do it when he is bringing in the big bucks and holds the belt, and you look past the fact that Swerve is humiliated as a man everytime they show him, and then you pretend the booking is good and pretend Swerve is dominating, this is actually a pretty damn good angle!!

Haven't seen AEW cool someone off this fast since Wardlow, although even then that's a bad comparison because Swerve is legitimately a top guy.
Tony and AEW fans don’t care about memorial reigns all they care about is the title changes and moments. As soon as Swerve won the title, AEW fans were fantasy booking him losing the title to Ospreay.

AEW keeps making the same mistake with Swerve that the WWE usually makes with their top babyfaces (see Roman Reigns). They are so intent at building up heat for the heels that they don't realize they're making the faces look really pathetic. Then when the face actually wins the match they're building up to it looks less like he "overcame the odds" and more like he's just really really lucky.
Jim just needs to stay on topic with *our* EVPs and I’ll be a viewer. Till then any other topic ain’t a draw for me.
The lack of hierarchy is the issue in AEW, guys like Christian go from nothing to a main event (supposedly) feud, and top guys end up having 30 minute matches with some ROH guy.
Based on the tv, the top angles in AEW involve Orange Cassidy, Trent Barretta, the Bucks, Jack Perry, and Okada. Zero compelling tv characters.
If I were Tony, my top angles would be something involving Swerve because he’s my champion (vs. Christian is fine) and something with Ospreay because he’s my hottest babyface (vs. Samoa Joe???).
But I’m not smart enough to be born the son of a billionaire, so what do I know?

I don't typically get mad over wrestling but this swerve booking is starting to really piss me off.

The Elite, Christian Family and Embassy all against Swerve reminds me of The Authority throwing eleven guys at "Daniel Bryan". That sucked.
My problem with all this, aside from the fact that the World Champion matters very little in AEW, is that now Swerve has to face not 1, not 2 but 3! stables all by his own. (Patriarchy, Embassy AND the Elite)....Couldn't they have waited a month for Embassy's turn? At least they could have ended the feud with Christian so they at least took one stable out of the equation

Tony Khan's booking of All Elite Wrestling and his mismanagement of Ring of Honor into now what is Tony's attempt at a poor man's WWE's ECW reboot, along with his obsession with The Young as authority figures, has now caused not only Anthem Sports and Entertainment's TNA Wrestling, but Billy Corgan's National Wrestling Alliance to catch up to Tony & Shahid Khan's All Elite Wrestling.
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is no longer or was never in direct competition against Endeavor TKO's World Wrestling Entertainment. All Elite Wrestling (Dynamite, Rampage and Collison) is in competition against TNA Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance.

They could have saved the turn on Swerve for if they had a match between Cages’ team and Embassy. Have it that Embassy causes Swerve to get pin by Cage, beat him up post match and leave him in the ring with Cage hands up in the air. Also, have someone give him the belt and have him claim he beat and pin the world champion as it leads up to there title match
By the time AEW reaches England, Swerve won't be anything and I sincerely think Swerve will be buried by Okada very soon and then. . . Okada vs Ospreay in London so Meltzer can die happy.
