I was literally thinking the same thing when I kept listening to this amazing song over and over! It’s sort of like a duet between the protagonist and antagonist where the villain (particularly a calm villain) is trying so hard to keep their sanity together when it comes to their arch-nemesis ruining all of their perfect schemes and dodging every trap they throw at them while the hero is trying so desperately to put an end to their rival’s reign of atrocity upon everything they love (Ex. homeland & close ones). The line from this song “Can I conquer the wolf within?” is what the two adversaries are trying to answer for themselves and for the fate of their world. Will the villain conquer the wolf (their insanity) within or will they become their true self of being the monster they’ve been trying to contain for so long once the hero outwits them for the hundredth time? And will the hero conquer the wolf (the villain) within or will the flame from their waning candle burn out for good? That’s pretty much my perspective of this song.
