just fyi I screwed up, the "Now Playing" on my #11 pick should say "Treasure". can't be arsed to rerender the video for that though edit 2023: I should probably make it clear that the Metamatics album Mind Mushing Git is also called Midnight Sun Pig on some pressings. when I recorded this video the most widely available version had the former title, nowadays the more widely available version has the latter title, but the two versions are completely 100% identical
BT is my personal favorite Electronic music artist of all time and I am so glad to see him place not once, but twice in your top ten. Even though I personally love These Hopeful Machines a little bit more than This Binary Universe, but that could do entirely with the fact that I've heard it over twice as much. Great List, can't wait to see more
Just went thru your complete list and really enjoyed it. I just turned 60 and have been listening to electronic music since the late 80s. I predominantly lean towards ambient & IDM as well as 70s/80s space music, so I enjoyed your inclusion of Orb, Orbital, FSOL, Speedy J (although I prefer G Spot over Ginger), etc (and definitely agree with your #1). While at the same time you list a number of artists I'm not very familiar with. I was surprised by a number of my favorite artists who were completely omitted: 1. None of the non-techno giants other than Jarre. E.g. Tangerine Dream (who I see you've already addressed), Vangelis, Schulze, Ashra, Steve Roach, Mark Shreeve etc. 2. Anything by, or influenced by, Enigma. Particularly the Leeb/Fulber continuum - Delerium, Synaesthesia, Conjure One, etc. 3. Anything on the FAX label. My favorites include Spyra, Dreamfish, Pino & Wildjamin (Xangadix, Whole Traffic), Fanger & Seibert, From Within, the entire Dark Side of the Moog series. 4. Ben Neill A couple newer artists I love, don't know if you're familiar with them, are Zymosis and Ronald Jenkees (who has a huge presence here on UA-cam.) Keep up the good work, I 'll definitely check out more of your videos and probably purchase Jarre's Electronica 1 & 2 based on your review.
I did consider Tangerine Dream - Exit and Pete Namlook - Air for the list, but they just missed the cut. I've always preferred Jarre and Kraftwerk to Tangerine Dream personally and while I do like Namlook and FAX a lot, there's way too much to choose from and it's all about the same quality-wise as far as I've heard (I probably could've mentioned a volume or two from Dark Side of the Moog in retrospect though) so instead I went with Autumn Of Communion 2 which is a tribute to all things FAX shortly after Namlook's death, personally found that to be more emotionally potent anything else just hadn't gotten enough repeat listens to make a strong personal connection, like Schulze or Enigma who I tried to get into at one point but got distracted by other things. Also I have yet to hear anything from Ben Neill, Zymosis or Ronald Jenkees so I'll have to check them out :)
> Also I have yet to hear anything from Ben Neill, Zymosis or Ronald Jenkees so I'll have to check them out :) < Great, would love to hear your opinion of them. My recommendation of a good starting point would be: Ben Neill - Goldbug or Night Science Zymosis - either of his albums, Between Two Points or Elements Into Data Ronald Jenkees - Disorganized Fun (his live performance videos on UA-cam are especially fun)
Mind Mushing Git is also called Midnight Sun Pig if you guys are looking for it. (I checked on Discogs, these albums are identical in every way except name.)
I cant argue with number one.its a beautiful album .it warm and emotional which in electrictronic is so difficult almost impossible without bodring cheesy .
I just discovered your channel when I was searching for reviews of the new Hybrid album (Light of the Fearless). I am an old timer who got into electronic music back in the 80s via Depeche Mode, New Order and Kraftwerk, before moving on to 808 State, Orbital and The Orb, followed later by artists like BT, Hybrid, William Orbit. I love how your Top 20 includes many albums I know and love, with some other stuff mixed in there that I have never heard. So I will definitely go and check those out. I will also go and check out the rest of your Top 100 list. P.S. Cool channel! B)
Totally agree on the number one. It is not only my number one electronic album, but just number one album in any genre without any doubt. You can listen to it in the background while working, on headphones just listening or speeding in your car. It is just a musical masterpiece that i listen to so many times... i can dream second of it AND still hear new things.
I just thought I'd put in a few cd's that are not on your list but are well worth a listen: Vangelis - Bladerunner Neutron 9000 - The green house effect System 7 - Pheonix Eat static - Abduction YMO vs the Orb - The tong poo remixes Art of noise - The Ambient collection White noise - An electric storm Psychic TV - Toward thee infinite beat William Orbit - Strange Cargo 2 Space - Space
Just wanted to let you know I have found a lot of killer artists and albums from your channel! Thanks for the great reviews and your time you put into it.
While I might not agree with some choices, it's a pretty great list overall. I appreciate the fact that you also focused on less known albums and not just the classics/mainstream stuff. Makes the list more interesting in my eyes. Soul Static Bureau is a particular favourite of mine that I've never heard of before your list - fucking amazing album.
You, my man, did a wonderful job on this list. As an electronic fan myself, I am impressed by how many tastes we share and then some. Speedy J I need dig around for.
'really enjoyed that!! I might disagree with your choices occasionally, but when electronic music affects you this much, who cares? Great work! Keep it up!!
Interesting list. Check these other electronic albums out as well: Violator-Depeche Mode. Music for the Jilted Generation-The Prodigy. Leftism-Leftfield. Paradise-Inner City. Night Works-Layo & Bushwacka. Mezzanine-Massive Attack. Bicep-Bicep. E.S.C.M.- BT.
Thanks for this list - it would have taken so much work! I’m new to electronic music and didn’t know where to start..... as you are my UA-cam “guru”, I’m gonna start with your top 10 :)
Electronic music is a genre that I really need to get more into. However, one thing I know is for certain. This list is missing the true greatest electronic album ever, The Fire This Time - Various Artists.
New to electronic music, aside from some of Bjork and Radiohead's stuff.. Portishead.. Massive Attack.. but my knowledge of the genre was lacking for sure. I did love Cosmogramma, which made me want to get more into electronic stuff. Anyway, my favorite stuff I've found on your channel has been u-Ziq, Monolake, and Biosphere. Thanks for all the great recommendations.
Good choice for the number 1 spot. That was a time when I was studying at art college in the 90s so I’ve got good memories around this album. And Petrol was always my favourite track!
Insides is a good shout for number 1 Personally I would put your Aphex Twin and FSOL picks above this personally, but that said they are all phenomonal
Har har your text document you linked in the description says Twat Seriously, though, great list, and thank you for including Old School Prodigy in the previous list. :)
My favorite band is Orbital. And my favorite album of all time (since 1999) is "In Sides". It's funny) Also 90% of bands in this Top 100 in my collection too. P.S.: These artists also deserve attention: Royksopp, Art of Noise, Groove Armada, Leftfield, Mint Royale, Moloko, Planet Funk, Junkie XL, Pet Shop Boys, Rob Dougan, Death in Vegas, Faithless, Apollo 440, Enigma, Paul Oakenfold, Propellerheads, Sasha, Paul van Dyk, Fatboy Slim, Justice, Armand van Helden, Timo Maas, Massive Attack, Santos, Antiloop, Sabres of Paradise, Mylo, Coldcut, Meat Beat Manifesto, DJ Krush, Audio Bullys, Everything But The Girl, SebastiAn, Eric Prydz, Does It Offend You Yeah?, Gorillaz, Trentemoller, Cassius, Modjo, Freddy Fresh, Roger Sanchez, Mr. Oizo, Deejay Punk-Roc, Sebastien Tellier, Morcheeba, Gabin, Fluke, Cut La Roc, Praga Khan, Safri Duo, Midfield General, Omar Santana, Telepopmusik, Wiseguys, DJ Tonka, St. Germain, Dirty Beatniks, Lionrock, Cirrus, Dub Pistols, Lunatic Calm, Tiga, U96, Scooter. P.P.S.: Oh, yes, Hello from Russia)
Absolutely love the effort and detail. Definitely put me on to some new smokers. Not sure how I feel about not a single BOC album or Ulrich Schnauss A Strangely Isolated Place not in the top ten. But great non the less
You had me at "I love Orbital" but "Listening to this is like exploring an alien planet" is sort of exactly how i described FSOL Lifeforms to a friend about twenty years ago :D P.S. I never doubted the Number 1. More recommendations (only by artists not mentioned in your top 100): Fluke - Risotto Faithless - Sunday 8 pm Syntax - Meccano Mind Vangelis - Movements (Sounds classic-y but it's electronics all the way) Sven Vaeth - Harlequin,Robot Ballet dancer I can go on+on+on...but this will do :)
My personal Top 10 would be: 10) Moderat - II 9) oOOoO . Without Your Love 8) Gold Panda - Half Of Where You Live 7) The Toxic Avenger - A.N.G.S.T 6) Ellen Allien - SOOL 5) Matthew Herbert - 100lbs 4) Rom di Prisco - Cryptidalia 3) Paul van Dyk - Reflections 2) Roger Sanchez - Contact 1) Siriusmo - Pearls & Embarrassment
I can't disagree with the #1 pick. Orbital "In Sides" is required listening for the aspiring oldschool electronic enthusiast. There's so much energy in the album and it feels so accessable in how the sound is, that it really sticks with you once you've given it a fair amount of time.
Only one Bonobo album! Too bad. Also no mention of Amon Tobin's ISAM or Foley Room which I think really have some great stuff in them. You heavily reference nostalgia, and my nostalgia for two artists is deeply set so I totally understand your picks vs what mine would be if I could even come up with 100 albums in the genre I like. I really admire your life long commitment to music though, bud. I will always be a fan as you go forth.
A bit late to your electronic music rankings here, I have got many albums on your 100 list but why have I never got Orbital? I mean Halcyon is a classic of course but I bought the Brown album twice and took it back; sacrilegious you would say. Will try Insides again at some point and try and see (well hear actually) what I am missing. Nice to see Bent get a mention (gave that one a listen a few days ago) but Ariels is pure (almost aquatic underwater) production perfection from start to finish to me and makes me want to weep at its beauty. What no Lemonjelly, Röyksopp, Fennesz or Susumu Yokota (you have got to give the strange and ethereal 'Symbol' a listen)? How dare you! LOL! Maybe they are in your other 40 list. Anywaaay, at least it's great to see my fellow Manc lads got on your list thrice... I have seen them a few times live... 808 State. Nice one (hundred) mate! Greets from a Mancunian electronic music nut from over the pond
I'm a new channel follower. Must admit I agree with single one of you all. Also Orbital/Orb fan or enthusiast. Got on this channel trying somehow to find some songs that I heard in late 90's, but no luck yet. Still lot to go through....
Nah waiting for AIR in the last two episodes.. :D BTW I think you should've put only two more albums to your list Zero 7 - When It Falls, a downtempo classic & Massive Attack's Mezzanine.
Lots of great albums on this list! What is you take on these: Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music I Edit - Crying Over Pros For No Reason Ott - Skylon Trifonic - Ninth Wave Trentemøller - The Last Resort Yosi Horikawa - Vapor
I was never able to get into Ott much and I've no idea why the Trentemøller album is pretty solid though I think its first track was so freaking good that the rest of the album feels almost disappointing by comparison have not heard the other ones yet
Personally I think Orbital's In Sides is a bit of a product of its time. There are some tracks on here that are a bit cheesy to hear nowadays (The Box mainly plz don't hate) a bit like something that was quickly created in GarageBand using the stock instruments. Also they are some tracks on here that don't really sound great out of context. But even after that, The Girl with the Sun in her Head is easily on of my favourite songs of all time!
very accurate and heartfelt 'personal' ranking but according to this professional taste in electronic music I think you could have done much more about Boards of Canada, Brian Eno, Biosphere and Steve Roach in the top ten as they have truly been among the key figures in defining and reforming the genre
To be fair, this is a personal favorite list, not an attempt at ranking objectively the most influential or important albums. A lot of my personal favorites would be like 5/10 and 6/10 range for a lot of other people. Some music requires a certain kind of person with a certain sort of mental-associative map of meaning and framework of past experience to "get". Hence why some music resonates with certain people more than others. It's art, after all.
There is plenty of stuff that you shared would be on my top 200 here are some others I would include Goldie : Timeless outstanding ! 4-Hero : Pages ASC- This guy has been around forever and if you don't check out his albums, you are missing out Synkro : Overture, emotional deep vision with colorful warm tone Om Unit : TheTorch Light Albums and everything else. BOP: The Amazing Adventures of one curious pixel Sasha: Xpander LP Crew Dbridge and Exit Records Appleblim Skull Candy Kode 9 and his crew Zomby "Strange Fruit" Venetian Snares
I've watched all three of these videos now. And there's no mention of Tangerine Dream. Are you not a fan of theirs? I was however pleasantly surprised to see Alan Parsons Project on the list.
#1 for me is Cosmic Furnace by Roger Powell, a 1973 ARP-driven jazz album. #2 would by Todd Rundgren's Initiation (1975) because side two, a 36 minute electronic song called "A Treatise on Cosmic Fire," is a modern classical masterpiece and also was assisted by Roger Powell. Roger Powell had joined Todd's band, Utopia, in 1974.
Fun! 😀 Thanks for sharing. I'm an electronic nutcase, and believe it or not I wouldn't of had any of those in my top 100 electronic albums with the exception of the two Kraftwerk albums. But I think it's great that we all have varied tastes and hear things differently. There's a few artists I've never even heard of, so thanks for the introduction. I look forward to checking them out very soon. Thanks again! Be sure to check out Blastromen- Human Beyond, my friend, for a real electronic rollercoaster ride!
A few recommendations. I strongly recommend checking out, if you haven't already, Animal Collective (to start with, anything between 2004 and 2009, then go earlier for their weirder stuff, and later for some different but still relatively accessible stuff), MGMT (I think everything from 2013 onward is their best work, but many fans love their 2010 album too), Spirit of the Beehive (specifically Entertainment Death, reminds me of a really good indie rock/punk band mixed with Magic Oneohtrix Point Never), Mid-Air Thief (specifically Crumbling, but their first album is really interesting too, as well as his solo work under the name Hyoo), Dan Deacon (Mystic Familiar is incredible, but the previous 2 or 3 albums are great too), Cosmic Trigger (has only released an album and a Shpongle remix album under Shpongle's name and label), and Flux & Contemplation by Simon Posford & Shpongle (weird artist name to release under so I'd understand if you haven't heard it yet or didn't even know it exists). Was gonna add Max Cooper here as well, but I see you've reviewed his latest album, unlike many other reviewers (to my surprise considering how good it is). Giant Claw is another cool experimental, vaporwave, and otherwise electronic artist I'll just throw in here at the end; the album Mirror Guide is an interesting excursion. Much love from Connecticut, the place nobody knows about lol.
This list gaves me many tips for nice albums, thank you! But I´m really surprised you didn´t mention total classics like: Leftfield - Leftism Massive attack - Mezzanine Prodigy - Music for the jilted generation Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman Chemical brothers - Dig your own hole Apollo 440 - Electra glide in blue Lamb - Fear of fours Fatboy Slim, Groove armada, Justice, Laurent Garnier.... :)
Hey there Wonky Angle. I like all your videos and your love for Electronic music as well. Your comment on I like my chemicals to be catchy in one of the videos is cool. Your list is very solid. Different from djmermin's. I guess plastik is not your thing :-) Peace to you man.
I thought you were going to put This Binary Universe at #1 actually... that album is, simply, insane, and got quite a few breathtaking sections and beautiful melodies
great list, but i see you are missing out one of the greatest electronic music artists and icons of the 90s: Oliver Lieb. His album L.S.G. Into Deep is for me the greatest album of all time. And you also need to check his albums LSG - The Unreleased Album, Oliver Lieb - Inside Voices :)
Ending the trilogy of videos on your top 100 is fun. It was an enjoyable time sampling your faves The still for Top 100 Best Electronic Music Albums #1 20-1 looks like a goateed chin. Ha, ha, ha. Many will agree. Have a nice day. What do you think about Autechre's Elseq 1-5? It is not very accessible as their past albums.
Have you ever listened to The Caretaker? He's got some really good material, and I would highly recommend checking out An Empty Bliss Beyond This World and Patience (After Sebald), the former of which is one of my favourite albums of all time. I definitely think you should check out Secede as well; two albums I would recommend are Tryshasla (another huge personal favourite) and bye Bye Gridlock Traffic. Also, I really appreciate you making this huge list, because the samples you used for each album are really enticing me to get back into crafting my music library like I did many years ago. I've just started watching your channel videos and I gotta say, you're doing a great job for all of the devout electronic music listeners out there, myself included. Also ALSO, fuck yeah This Binary Universe! Love that album with all my heart, and it pains me that I can't seem to figure out how to import it to Spotify, considering it isn't in the BT discog. Anyway, keep on keeping on, man.
My daughter was freaked out by this album and thought we were being abducted by aliens. Ha! Looks like Paul did a good job of telling his story of aliens saving us from our impending doom.
if you mean Treasures From The Temple, no. it's just a B-sides and remix collection I did review the main Temple of I & I album though ua-cam.com/video/HQ-4R-MoYS0/v-deo.html
I am missing here Jam & Spoon - Triptomatic Fairytales 3003. In my opinion their best album... really great atmosphere on many tracks... and such a shame it is not here... and also M83 - Saturday = Youth which I find so great. Can listen to it all the way through... sad nobody talks about it much (unlike Hurry Up, We´re Dreaming) and it deserved to be here. But respect your opinion. :)
Hey, love the vid! Btw, you should give Flume's new EP a review/reaction, this time its much more producer based instead of mainstream. I think you'll like it, I wanna hear what you think about it as you haven't liked his previous! :)
Have you listened to one of the later albums by Robert Miles: Organik??? This will definately be something you will like. So much different than Dreamland: dark, experimental, cinematic stuff
This is a top 100 in IDM/Techno/Ambient with a very subjective point of view on the matter of what's what and I'm totally fine with it, as long as it says so in the description.. Vangelis ? nope. Simon Posford ? nope. Union Jack ? nope. C J Bolland & Nikkie Van Lierop ? nope. Sasha's Xpander EP ? nope. Rhys Fulber (FLA, Delerium ) ring any bells ??? nope. I agree with your #1 pick though. My personal top 30, strictly 1 album per artist: 1. Vangelis - Blade Runner OST [1982] 2. Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene [1976] 3. Enigma - Le roi est mort, vive le roi [1996] 4. Orbital - In Sides [1996] 5. Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpressible [2001] 6. The Orb - The Orb's adventures beyond the Ultraworld [1991] 7. Delerium - Spheres I/Spheres II [1994] 8. Air - Moon Safari [1997] 9. Kraftwerk - Electric Cafe (Deutsche Version) [1986] 10. The Future Sound of London - Dead Cities [1995] 11. Eat Static - Eat Static/Prepare your spirit [1992] 12. Spirallianz - Stereopark [2003] 13. Cj bolland - Electronic Highway [1995] 14. Pleiadians - I.F.O. [1997] 15. Union Jack - There will be no Armageddon [1995] 16. Björk - Debut [1993] 17. Lords Of Acid - Lust [1991] 18. Steve Roach - Traveller [1983] 19. The Prodigy - The Fat of the Land [1997] 20. Drexciya - Neptune’s Lair [1999] 21. BT - Movements in still life (Special Edition) [1999] 22. Madvillain - Madvillainy [2004] 23. Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92 [1992] 24. Atrium Carceri - Cellblock [2003] 25. Sundial Aeon - Apotheosis [2007] 26. Tangerine Dream - Phaedra [1974] 27. DJ Shadow - Endtroducing….. [1996] 28. H.U.V.A. Network - Distances [2004] 29. Banco de Gaia - Last Train to Lhasa [1995] 30. Portishead - Dummy [1994]
yes I said at the beginning of part 1 that the list was purely ranked on personal enjoyment & nostalgia, 100% subjective. imo an “objective” ranking doesn’t exist because you can’t judge music objectively like that (also Shpongle made my list so that counts as Simon Posford, right?)
@@TheWonkyAngle as I said I'm totally fine with any choice as long as it reflect the chooser's view on the subject. No, you can't count Shpongle unless you rule out Raja Ram and I meant Posford's first Trance redefining kickass album Twisted. PS : Trance is way underrated on the account of today's listeners tuning to Armin' ASOT and Tiesto's whatever radio-show which is labelled Trance for whatever reasons.... Trance is way bigger than these two guys.
just fyi I screwed up, the "Now Playing" on my #11 pick should say "Treasure". can't be arsed to rerender the video for that though

Have you heard the box CD single? if not, I highly recommend it and I promise you won't be disappointed. Happy listening!!!
You provide an invaluable service to electronic music fans out there. Keep up the good work.
I disagree with much of your list but I agree so strongly with your pick for #1 that none of that really matters.
BT is my personal favorite Electronic music artist of all time and I am so glad to see him place not once, but twice in your top ten. Great List, can't wait to see more
I discovered orbital on this video, and I've listened to them so much since I discovered them. Thanks for introducing me.
All three parts of this list have been a major source for me to find new music to listen to, so thanks for that.

> Also I have yet to hear anything from Ben Neill, Zymosis or Ronald Jenkees so I'll have to check them out :) <
Great, would love to hear your opinion of them. My recommendation of a good starting point would be:
Ben Neill - Goldbug or Night Science
Zymosis - either of his albums, Between Two Points or Elements Into Data
Ronald Jenkees - Disorganized Fun (his live performance videos on UA-cam are especially fun)
Mind Mushing Git is also called Midnight Sun Pig if you guys are looking for it. (I checked on Discogs, these albums are identical in every way except name.)
That avalanches album really is something special, I need to listen to it again.
I cant argue with number one.its a beautiful album .it warm and emotional which in electrictronic is so difficult almost impossible without bodring cheesy .
Number 1 spot is deservant, to say the least. Many new artists to take home from this list, good chance to broaden one's musical horizon
All the Love to you for making this magnificent Top 100 list

I just thought I'd put in a few cd's that are not on your list but are well worth a listen:
Vangelis - Bladerunner
Neutron 9000 - The green house effect
System 7 - Pheonix
Eat static - Abduction
YMO vs the Orb - The tong poo remixes
Art of noise - The Ambient collection
White noise - An electric storm
Psychic TV - Toward thee infinite beat
William Orbit - Strange Cargo 2
Space - Space
Just wanted to let you know I have found a lot of killer artists and albums from your channel! Thanks for the great reviews and your time you put into it.
Great list and encouraged me to dig out my copy of Wide Angle for the first time in ages! Thanks and greetings from the UK!
Man, ive found so many great tunes because of you. Thank you matey. Glad "Programmed To Love" made it into the top 20!
Wow, that's a really nice TOP. I'm glad to see some of my favourite albums. Thank you for your time from Spain, can't wait to see more.
Thank you for this list! Great inspiration.
You, my man, did a wonderful job on this list. As an electronic fan myself, I am impressed by how many tastes we share and then some. Speedy J I need dig around for.
Again, thank you for this video. You made me discover a lot of great music. Cheers - A
'really enjoyed that!! I might disagree with your choices occasionally, but when electronic music affects you this much, who cares? Great work! Keep it up!!
Interesting list. Check these other electronic albums out as well:
Violator-Depeche Mode.
Music for the Jilted Generation-The Prodigy.
Leftism-Leftfield.
Paradise-Inner City.
Night Works-Layo & Bushwacka.
Mezzanine-Massive Attack.
Bicep-Bicep.
E.S.C.M.- BT.
Mezzanine is one of the best albums of all time. Probably my #1. I was surprised there was no Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, etc.
Damn I wasn't expecting these
videos to be uploaded so quickly. I thought you'd make us wait and tease us but thanks for the videos!
Thanks for this list - it would have taken so much work! I’m new to electronic music and didn’t know where to start..... as you are my UA-cam “guru”, I’m gonna start with your top 10 :)

Seriously, though, great list, and thank you for including Old School Prodigy in the previous list. :)
I don't listen to electronic music at all ever so I really appreciate you laying out a good intro like this
Man, hearing Halcyon On and On immediately gave me goosebumps. What a fuckin bop.
Keep up the great work subbed for sure.
Orbital is also my favorite band, and InSides is my favorite album ever. I have heard it hundreds of times. Very good list.
Orbital and BT are two of the most talented bands and artists out there, and it's great to see them both in the Top 20 twice.
Amazing list, man! Though it is a bit of a shame that there isn't anything from Hospital Records on it.
Boojie Baker you’re joking right?
Have a listen to "Unstable Escapes" by "Dum Trik" I think you'll like it.
My favorite band is Orbital. And my favorite album of all time (since 1999) is "In Sides". It's funny) Also 90% of bands in this Top 100 in my collection too. P.S.: These artists also deserve attention: Royksopp, Art of Noise, Groove Armada, Leftfield, Mint Royale, Moloko, Planet Funk, Junkie XL, Pet Shop Boys, Rob Dougan, Death in Vegas, Faithless, Apollo 440, Enigma, Paul Oakenfold, Propellerheads, Sasha, Paul van Dyk, Fatboy Slim, Justice, Armand van Helden, Timo Maas, Massive Attack, Santos, Antiloop, Sabres of Paradise, Mylo, Coldcut, Meat Beat Manifesto, DJ Krush, Audio Bullys, Everything But The Girl, SebastiAn, Eric Prydz, Does It Offend You Yeah?, Gorillaz, Trentemoller, Cassius, Modjo, Freddy Fresh, Roger Sanchez, Mr. Oizo, Deejay Punk-Roc, Sebastien Tellier, Morcheeba, Gabin, Fluke, Cut La Roc, Praga Khan, Safri Duo, Midfield General, Omar Santana, Telepopmusik, Wiseguys, DJ Tonka, St. Germain, Dirty Beatniks, Lionrock, Cirrus, Dub Pistols, Lunatic Calm, Tiga, U96, Scooter. P.P.S.: Oh, yes, Hello from Russia)
Thank you very much for your #1
That album brought me into electronic music when I was eight
Absolutely love the effort and detail. Definitely put me on to some new smokers. Not sure how I feel about not a single BOC album or Ulrich Schnauss A Strangely Isolated Place not in the top ten. But great non the less
You had me at "I love Orbital" but "Listening to this is like exploring an alien planet" is sort of exactly how i described FSOL Lifeforms to a friend about twenty years ago :D
P.S. I never doubted the Number 1.
More recommendations (only by artists not mentioned in your top 100):
Fluke - Risotto
Faithless - Sunday 8 pm
Syntax - Meccano Mind
Vangelis - Movements (Sounds classic-y but it's electronics all the way)
Sven Vaeth - Harlequin,Robot Ballet dancer
I can go on+on+on...but this will do :)
My personal Top 10 would be:
10) Moderat - II
9) oOOoO . Without Your Love
8) Gold Panda - Half Of Where You Live
7) The Toxic Avenger - A.N.G.S.T
6) Ellen Allien - SOOL
5) Matthew Herbert - 100lbs
4) Rom di Prisco - Cryptidalia
3) Paul van Dyk - Reflections
2) Roger Sanchez - Contact
1) Siriusmo - Pearls & Embarrassment
Furry Scythe mmm Siriusmo good stuff
New deadmau5 album incoming(releases December 2nd) get ready for another Album review 😁😬😛
I can't disagree with the #1 pick. Orbital "In Sides" is required listening for the aspiring oldschool electronic enthusiast. There's so much energy in the album and it feels so accessable in how the sound is, that it really sticks with you once you've given it a fair amount of time.
Still... my... favorite... band... ever!
Thanks for BT!! You and your video made me know him men
Only one Bonobo album!
What is you take on these:
Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music I
Edit - Crying Over Pros For No Reason
Ott - Skylon
Trifonic - Ninth Wave
Trentemøller - The Last Resort
Yosi Horikawa - Vapor
I was never able to get into Ott much and I've no idea why
the Trentemøller album is pretty solid though I think its first track was so freaking good that the rest of the album feels almost disappointing by comparison
have not heard the other ones yet
Personally I think Orbital's In Sides is a bit of a product of its time. There are some tracks on here that are a bit cheesy to hear nowadays (The Box mainly plz don't hate) a bit like something that was quickly created in GarageBand using the stock instruments. Also they are some tracks on here that don't really sound great out of context. But even after that, The Girl with the Sun in her Head is easily on of my favourite songs of all time!
Thought your Orb discography vids were quite entertaining and I am impressed with some of your own productions. Keep at it!
We both have the same favorite album. I've never heard most of your 20, though. Yet.
Hey man the videos are great keep it up
what a great list, thank you
I checked out all 3 parts and can't believe you didn't include chemical brothers or leftfield.
I did include The Chemical Brothers? I put Push The Button at #36
@@TheWonkyAngle ah sorry my bad
No Avicii? Alan Walker?
Jk. Amazing list brother
Jean Michelle Jarre " the god father of electronic music"
Just found your channel. I like your taste in music and I'm looking forward to finding some new shit to listen to you :)
Can you review something by The Prodigy? One of the best electronic acts I've heard.
Astralplain *CHANNEL CLOSED* yeah im surprised musoc for the jilted generation wasnt on the list
This whole list was pretty good that I just had to make a Spotify playlist out of it!
very accurate and heartfelt 'personal' ranking but according to this professional taste in electronic music I think you could have done much more about Boards of Canada, Brian Eno, Biosphere and Steve Roach in the top ten as they have truly been among the key figures in defining and reforming the genre
Awesome list! Really encourage more Underworld listens, and look forward to listening to things you love and I do not! Cheerio!
you are doin' good kid.
There is plenty of stuff that you shared would be on my top 200 here are some others I would include
Goldie : Timeless outstanding !
4-Hero : Pages
ASC- This guy has been around forever and if you don't check out his albums, you are missing out
Synkro : Overture, emotional deep vision with colorful warm tone
Om Unit : TheTorch Light Albums and everything else.
BOP: The Amazing Adventures of one curious pixel
Sasha: Xpander LP
Crew
Dbridge and Exit Records
Appleblim
Skull Candy
Kode 9 and his crew
Zomby "Strange Fruit"
Venetian Snares
I've watched all three of these videos now. And there's no mention of Tangerine Dream. Are you not a fan of theirs? I was however pleasantly surprised to see Alan Parsons Project on the list.
Tangerine Dream can be found on the addendum I did 4 years later ua-cam.com/video/8RE9y-_qTG4/v-deo.html
kind of an ambient list more than all an all rounder imo. not bad :P
Fun! 😀
Thanks for sharing.
Be sure to check out Blastromen- Human Beyond, my friend, for a real electronic rollercoaster ride!
just reviewed Blastromen if you're interested :) ua-cam.com/video/9YSAiREHJjw/v-deo.html
Excellent 1st place, a worthy winner.
Although Adnans is quite clearly the best track on the album. 😁
Have you reviewed any Ozric Tentacles albums? I recommend you give them a listen, preferably Jurassic Shift and The Hidden Step.
But I´m really surprised you didn´t mention total classics like:
Leftfield - Leftism
Massive attack - Mezzanine
Prodigy - Music for the jilted generation
Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman
Chemical brothers - Dig your own hole
Apollo 440 - Electra glide in blue
Lamb - Fear of fours
Fatboy Slim, Groove armada, Justice, Laurent Garnier....
:)
Hey there Wonky Angle.
I like all your videos and your love for Electronic music as well.
Your comment on I like my chemicals to be catchy in one of the videos is cool.
Your list is very solid. Different from djmermin's.
I guess plastik is not your thing :-)
Peace to you man.
I thought you were going to put This Binary Universe at #1 actually... that album is, simply, insane, and got quite a few breathtaking sections and beautiful melodies
no Vladislav Delay? Apparat? Kattoo? deepchord, echospace? basic channel? trentemoller? top kek. still a solid list and much respect to you !
The Residents, Suicide, Throbbing Gristle, Chris & Cosey, The Knife, Fever Ray.
great list, but i see you are missing out one of the greatest electronic music artists and icons of the 90s: Oliver Lieb. His album L.S.G. Into Deep is for me the greatest album of all time. And you also need to check his albums LSG - The Unreleased Album, Oliver Lieb - Inside Voices :)
Nice list. Very different from.my taste but I will most likely hit up a few of these 90's joints!
What's the song you use in your transitions? It's so familiar but I can't recall the name.
Hybrid - Finished Symphony
I used to have this album with a red cover and a robot on it ,cant seem to find this old cd
Thanks for the list - long time electronica fan. Did I miss William Orbit - Strange Cargo 3?
I did consider him but he just missed the cut. Great album regardless
I did a review of Elseq 1-5 a while back ua-cam.com/video/380zwj9RIgg/v-deo.html
the comments got a little out of hand tho lol
The Wonky Angle, do you listen to Arca?
ua-cam.com/video/gWIuHahxd5A/v-deo.html
Empty Bliss - like strolling through a ghostly ballroom.
My daughter was freaked out by this album and thought we were being abducted by aliens. Ha! Looks like Paul did a good job of telling his story of aliens saving us from our impending doom.
Violator Depeche Mode, Chorus Erasure and Pet Shop Boys Electric
Hello! You reviewing latest Thievery Corporation album?
if you mean Treasures From The Temple, no. it's just a B-sides and remix collection
I did review the main Temple of I & I album though ua-cam.com/video/HQ-4R-MoYS0/v-deo.html
The Wonky Angle thanks for answering! Will do
I am missing here Jam & Spoon - Triptomatic Fairytales 3003. :)
You may not respond to this but do you have the name of the intro song??? I know it from somewhere and it's driving me nuts!!!!
the song playing underneath each of the numbers? it's Finished Symphony by Hybrid
@@TheWonkyAngle Thanks so much!!!!!! :)
Hey, love the vid! Btw, you should give Flume's new EP a review/reaction, this time its much more producer based instead of mainstream. I think you'll like it, I wanna hear what you think about it as you haven't liked his previous! :)
Correct me if I'm wrong but did The Prodigy's The Fat of the Land and Bonobo's Animal Magic seriously not make your top 100?????
no but Experience and Black Sands did, personally prefer those
Have you listened to one of the later albums by Robert Miles: Organik??? This will definately be something you will like. So much different than Dreamland: dark, experimental, cinematic stuff
Whats is your favorite album in globalité top 5 ? Do you like cfcf liquid colour ?
we literally have the same music taste :)
My personal top 30, strictly 1 album per artist:
1. Vangelis - Blade Runner OST [1982]
2. Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene [1976]

28. H.U.V.A. Network - Distances [2004]
29. Banco de Gaia - Last Train to Lhasa [1995]
30. Portishead - Dummy [1994]
yes I said at the beginning of part 1 that the list was purely ranked on personal enjoyment & nostalgia, 100% subjective. imo an “objective” ranking doesn’t exist because you can’t judge music objectively like that
(also Shpongle made my list so that counts as Simon Posford, right?)
Love your list.my only objection would be Prodigy.music for the jilted generation is my favourite.
SILY is my favorite
