You do need source code to replace a battery, when you have to unbrick a one-wheeled scooter that the manufacturer has deliberately coded to fail.
CT Wilson appears to be a good investment for somebody who doesn't want Right to Repair.
If manufacturers want to opt out of giving away their source code then allow legitimate entities to apply for a key to circumvent the locks so people don't need to do stupid shit like spot welding conductors on live batteries to be able to swap the cells which are common to most lithium ion battery packs... or, better yet, DON'T LOCK OUT SERVICING WEAR ITEMS. 😃
The source code to things is only needed for third-party servicing if the manufacturer opts to use the logic in their device as a lock. If they simply don't lock out servicing in any way, they wouldn't have this problem. Instead, manufacturers are evolving increasingly tricky locks like battery management systems that can only be reset by the manufacturer after being disconnected, guaranteeing a dead battery or even a whole device.
Was going to write this, glad I checked the comments fist.
We are already in the situation that simple repairs or replacements need knowledge of the (baked in) software that is blocking them.
Software that is using battery and processor power the device could use for other things just to make sure you can't effect simple repairs.

Louis: What? No, I mean we're going to push for schematics or die trying.
Lawmakers: *Unfavorable*
More like
Louis: Schematics or die
Lawmaker: **paid off by john deere** Unfavorable
"I don't take personal offence"
BUT "I received a single death threat, so I am rejecting the bill"
He takes professional offense.
I'm so discouraged at these politicians I cant finish watching
Let me see these threats. If they are real, submit it to the federal government for prosecution.
Check Wilson's wikipedia. Someone edited it today to misrepresent Louis and said he made a "salty" video and that his opinion is wrong. I deleted the edit and stated that it was an opinion-based edit as my justification for removing, but not sure if my edit stuck.
It's gonna be a fun couple of years getting my reputation dragged through the mud. I've barely even scratched the surface and just got started, and the Maryland legislature thinks I am a racist because of the head of this committee.
Even if I lose miserably, I'll be able to say I tried my best and that I stood for something at some point in my life. It's my hope that when my reputation is tarnished and in pieces, the ability to look in the mirror and live with myself will be a good consolation prize.
@@rossmanngroup Reputation is overrated, man. Do what is right and let the rest go. Those who know what's right won't leave you. You don't need to care about the others anyway.
@@rossmanngroup When immoral people try to defame your character it usually means you must be doing something right. Good people notice that sort of thing.
@@rossmanngroup any thoughts on legal action? I'd imagine that kind of slander could affect your business, unfortunately.
@@rossmanngroup I hope time will make it clearer: It wasn't you. He was only ever looking for ammunition to benefit the people who paid him to oppose it, and any excuse would have done.
Why do I say he never had any intent of genuine discourse? He's insinuating you were behind a death threat, with no evidence other than 1) you made a video 2) someone allegedly made a death threat.
I don't think he's stupid enough to sincerely believe that being called out as disingenuous "proves" that you or "people" you're allied with made a death threat. In my experience, when someone goes nuclear in response to criticism... it generally means they don't want people considering whether it's true. Or as the cynical joke goes, "The bit dog barks the loudest".
Mad respect for what your are standing and fighting for Mr Louis
I love how Louis treats them all with equal contempt... its no less than they deserve... 😅
This is C.T. Wilson, no? This is ridiculous behavior for a politician. Vote him out. This man is anti-American.
It is pathetic that someone in political office use their personal issues to dictate policy that affects millions. It is cowardly and only a bunch of lackeys of the State act like this.
NEVER APOLOGISE. These people are low, bought and paid for. You are a good man whom we respect a great deal.
this guy is throwing the bill out because he got a death threat? why would you do that to your constituents???? Y'all should vote this guy out. You ABSOLUTELY do not want your lawmakers deciding the fate of a bill because of a reason like that. That's a personal emotion unrelated to the actual merit of the bill itself. Good on the fellow law makers calling him out on this. The threat could come from either side. That guy can easily be manipulated, and he's sharing this fact with EVERYONE. think about it. if you wanted him to do something you just have to send an anonymous death threat from the side you don't want to win. voila. he does what you want. that's like a legislative cheat code. ugh.
The politician was looking for an excuse to say no. Follow the money.
Dude if death threats worked that way, oh boy. I am just shaking from anger.
bought and paid for. they do not care because it does not affect them
Yep. I can see right through this phony narcissist. But his tactics of playing the race card, playing the victim, and muddy the arguments with deflection and nonsense works.
Thank you Lewis for standing up for this BS. When you watch see things like "im not voting for this coz my feelings got hurt" it makes you wonder how any public infrastructure ever gets built.
Follow the money - it makes itself pretty apparent. Usually bills get passed once enough greenbacks have been applied to the appropriate palms and pockets.
Get this on Reddit, Twitter, every social media platform. This is some BS, and needs to be fixed.
Reddit is a woke cesspool, they'll side against Louis.
Using personal feelings to kill a billl is the epitome of cowardice
Another disappointing example of the bureaucratic system of the US in today's age. Regardless of if a theat was sent or who sent it, you don't let the bad apples dictate your actions. You stand up for what is right, and given how quickly the majority of those people shut down the bill with no thought, it's very clear they had no care for the true intentions of the bill, and were either against it from the start or just wanted to get the vote done and over with.
just a convenient excuse considering how little weight their arguments actually have against the bill
"I got a death threat from a random guy who's probably out of state that says he loves freedom, so I'm turning my state into a prison colony to spite him"
He has been against it for over 2 years - as evidenced in this video. He also doesn't understand the difference between a schematic and source code.
That quite literally goes against what bureaucracy was supposed to do.
He is acting like a king/count/lord not a bureaucrat. Bureaucrats are expected to replace computers in a time where there where no computers. so yes, they are obsolete.
So yes an absolute example of the failure.
"I personally don't like so I oppose." Goes 100% against what he is supposed to do. He openly refused to do his jobs because someone was mean to him. That's not the equivalent of a childish tantrum, that's just a childish tantrum.
To me it looked like most of the people speaking were in favor of the bill, only the chairman openly spoke against the bill right? I was surprised how the vote turned out after I heard the arguments
Wait... Isn't it the responsibility of a delegate, someone who is representing a larger group of people, to do research on a bill and learn the fundamental knowledge required to understand what the bill is about?
DOES HE NOT UNDERSTAND HIS POSITION?
DOES HE THINK PEOPLE ELECTED HIM BECAUSE THEY WANT HIM TO GIVE HIS OWN OPINION?
DOES HE NOT KNOW HE WAS GIVEN THAT POSITION SO THAT HE MAY ACT IN THE INTERESTS OF HIS CONSTITUENTS????
DOES HE NOT KNOW HE CANT DO THAT WITHOUT BASIC AND FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE BILLS HE IS STRIKING DOWN?!?!?!?!??!
I'm in shock and disbelief at what arrogant, stupid, and egotistical people like this who are given a position of power can do. The havoc they can cause. With what ease they can be manipulated by corporate shills that LITERALLY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.
WHILE THEY LISTEN TO THOSE WHO ACTUALLY HAVE A STAKE IN THOSE BILLS AND THOSE WHO HAVE KNOWLEDGE ON THE INFORMATION IN THOSE BILLS.
THEY LISTEN TO THOSE PEOPLE WHO POUR THEIR HEART AND SOULS INTO TRYING TO PROTECT THEIR LIVELIHOODS AND PERSONAL FREEDOMS BY GOING ALL THE WAY TO THAT HEARING, UNPAID AND STRESSED.
For what...? For some deranged lunatic who hides behind ignorance, excuse my anger, to strike those hard working people down and step on their hands. All because a couple of VERY HIGHLY PAID lobbyists use a few uncommon words to throw this guys brain in a loop.
Bravo America, you've outdone yourself this time. There are plenty of hardworking trustworthy delegates worth electing.
PLEASE VOTE AT YOUR LOCAL ELECTIONS. Love and peace from Houston, TX. I am currently suffering at uBreakiFix by Asurion. Been in the repair industry as a store manger and business owner for over 8 years now. Love your videos will do anything I can to support.
Edit: *Excuse MY anger* not "Excuse me Anger". Not a leprechaun, I promise.
That doesn't get them kickbacks.
Yes, but it's not codified into law. It's up to constituents to force these people on their toes. That's the double-edged sword and caveat to a system like ours. If we are complacent, those we vote in remain ignorant tools and just follow the money trail of whoever donated to their campaigns (amongst other things).
That said, there is no other way to build a system that forces "leadership" to follow through ethically and do the right thing in understanding the nature of the bills and the ripple effects of how they vote, how bills are written, etc. It's also less prone to corruption unless we're negligent as a general populace...which unfortunately most of us really are too busy to really pay attention when necessary, and we generally forget the significance of not spending a little time communally discussing these things. Allowing us to become easily partisanized and split into political factions rather than have healthy debates and assure people are in community meetings or voicing loud opinions, and if legislators close those meetings or ignore pleas, to gang together outside to voice opinions in a loud, but peaceful manner. The usual culprits who do participate are political stooges usually, who are paid to do it, or who haven't a job or normal life so it's easy to bus them around. It used to be regular citizens who work and pay taxes 80+ years ago. Changed after WWII, and we have this.
Used to be far more intelligent legislators who had to be extra careful of how they play games, if corrupt like this one is, but now it's a norm, not an exception.
"Representing the interests of his constituents" is only a nominal thing that exists theoretically, on paper. It doesn't exist in the real world because the voters have no way to enforce it. Theoretically the voters can enforce it by voting out the bad politician, but that's a fantasy pipe-dream. The reality is that spending money on election campaigns make a much bigger difference than earning the good opinions of the few informed constituents.
Yeah sure keep voting and keep pretending the system works. The only voting you should care about is voting that actively fixes the democratic system first.
The way it is right now, "representing constituents" is just a myth to justify the ruling class the same way that in the past we had "Divine right of kings" or "the priest-class prays for all of us" as excuses to justify why the strong can fuck over the weak.
Your lucky charms
*hand them over*
This meeting is so insanely absurd. These are like incompetent children with no work ethic. How do they not know anything about the legislation that they are voting on? She’s asking what it is during this? Wtf. What a circus.
All it takes is to have one member be paid off by big tech to stop a right to repair bill.
Don’t tell me this guy thought “drinking the Kool-Aid” was racist.
Lol this is exactly it... So out of touch that he doesn't even understand basic metaphors
hahahaha holy shit you are right 🤣🤣🤣💀
I love the lady asking for clarification at the beginning. "Wait, can we consider the contents of the bill before we shoot it down?" (hears about farmers having rights and resources to repair their own equipment) "Hmmm... tell me again why that's a bad thing?"
That guy is obviously in the corporate pocket.
