      During Vietnam studies were done monitoring stress indicators of naval aviators flying combat sorties. What was found was that heart rate, breathing, perspiration, and other indicators were higher when landing on the ship, especially at night in poor weather than when making bomb runs or under attack by SAMS or AAA.

      Same, but in general complete rotc/academy/ots while maintaining great academics in order to apply for a pilot slot. Once selected you will enter flight school to earn your wings and then be selected to fly a specific aircraft which is determined by your class ranking and the needs of the Air Force. After that you’ll spend some time in advanced training on that air craft

      You don't start the flight school process to become a Super Hornet Pilot. The odds of getting Hornets is a LONG way away from the beginning of flight school. The acceptance rate for flight school is very competitive and the wash out rate is very high. You have to qualify for jet training vs multi engine or helos, then the needs of the service and flight school grades dictate what aircraft you get. Then you have to complete the F-18 school. Very long road to go down.

      @@edship4146 None if that means you don't have a goal. Want to fly Hornets? You have to join the Navy or USMC to do that In some cases if you join the Naval Reserves and are given a pilot slot...Said slot is for a specific airframe. Either way, joining is the first step regardless of how long or arduous the process is

    • @edship4146
      @edship4146 3 роки тому

      @@user-yj3kn4fe7h Correct me if I am wrong, but the Naval Reserves do not have that program. The Air National Guard does but not Navy or Marine reserves. There are too many fully qualified and current (ship and aircraft type) pilots to pay for a new guy to go that long route to fleet readiness. My Marine reserve squadron (A-4 super Foxes) was a fraternity almost. There was a LONG waiting line to get in the squadron and you had to know someone in the squadron to vouch for you. We wanted qualified pilots that would fit in with the squadron personality and were also good pilots.

    For aviators who reach their CVN XO tour (an O-6 billet), the must go through Nuclear Power School as well as qualify at a Prototype to learn how nuclear reactor operation works. This is a prerequisite to ultimately become a CVN CO. Many have said it was the hardest part of their careers.

I was an AQ, which is a Fire Control Technician. That rate no longer exists. I had opportunity to debrief the Driver and RIO during my time serving America. Wartime is the real deal and I had no problem fulfilling my duty. We were attached to the USS Ranger, a fine aircraft carrier who had 13 battle stars. In my humble opinion VF-154 is the best fighter squadron in the Navy.

    The college degree part , while humorous about the degree in underwater basket weaving, an old Navy joke I remember my instructor telling me, they have a preference for engineering, or "hard science" degrees like Physics. Also advanced math, calculus and beyond, is a must, even if the official requirements may not list it.

    • @okfrog8083
      @okfrog8083 3 роки тому +2

      What? No, you don't. If you can add, subtract, multiply, and divide you have enough math skills to become a pilot. Maybe some. a basic understanding of high school level geometry and trigonometry past T6 world and into advanced / FRS in certain communities but that's extremely limited. The only place where you would actually need to have/utilize those skills on the regular is TPS / nuke school for a CVN command billet.

    Since fall 2020 the pipeline has changed slightly. Introductory Flight Screening (IFS) and Aviation Preflight Indoctrination (API) being consolidated and replaced by Naval Introductory Flight Evaluation (NIFE) which does not focus on the private pilot exam and takes about 2 months including 7 flights. Also there are usually weeks waiting between phases of training while you move up the queue.

I have to get lasik eye surgery first before I can become qualified to do any Aviation rate for the navy, and I have to do a act or an sat to get accepted.
