Abbey Road 50th Anniversary Box Set "Unboxed"
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 вер 2019
- This is not really an "unboxing" since the sets were unboxed so they could be auditioned and reviewed. Please read the full coverage on the analogPlanet.com website.
Here, analogPlanet editor Michael Fremer shows you the box set and describes how he went about the review by listening to the new remix and comparing it to various original and reissued pressings.

I really enjoyed watching this. My wife walked in and said "Why is Lou Reed doing this video" ? LOL
Better than “Jerry Springer”. Heard that too...
@@AnalogPlanet Exactly what I was going to say! I despise the Springer comments.
That's quite ironic as Reed apparently disliked the Beatles and dismissed them as 'Rubbish'.
@@garytwitchett9359 Yeah. Unfortunately. I love Lou but The Beatles opened a lot of doors for many great bands. They reshaped rock and rock background in less than 4 years, way before Velvet Underground was even a thing. It's like saying you like Elvis, but that Chuck Berry sucks. Lou said he liked The Rolling Stones but the Stones first hit was written by Lennon/MacCartney.
@Analog Planet
Jerry Springer is what I was going to comment! 😆😆😆😆😆
Never mind....
Your reviews are always SPOT ON my friend! Enjoying them VERY much, always! Never stop making these reviews!
I LOVE watching these videos! The 100 analog albums video is an epic journey. Thank you!
You definitely need more vinyl in your collection!
I love this guy he was definitely the reason for my record collecting
As usual, Michael, another stellar video! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to make these videos for us!!
I always enjoy your take and assimilation concerning well produced master vinyl. Thank ya'll for making our vinyl community a better place to reside.
Excellent review, Michael as always. Thanks. I appreciate the helpful detail, information, and humor that you put into it !
Loving your unboxings, Michael! More please! Thank you
Thanks for the review, Michael!
I like the way you put this together. The passion you have for your amazing collection of vinyl records is entertaining.
Thank you, Michael. Can’t wait to get my copy. 🎶🔊🙂
Love hearing all the details, thanks Mikey
Great comparative work!! Amazing to have all those versions.
This is well done. 😀
Very informative, and thanks for the what you contributed from your personal experiences and knowledge to this 'unboxing' of the great "Abbey Road" album.
I could watch/listen to you all day.
Great Job once again Michael I've been enjoying all your videos I'll keep my eyes open for this one.. Thanks
I listened to the remix of come together on spotify today, WOW! It gave me chills. I only hope the rest of the songs sound that good. The percussion sounds so alive. It's a great mix.
Another great review…many thanks. Pete.
I was born in Dec 67 but proud to say I purchased the album in 1976 aged 8. I was in Grade 3. Amazing musical taste and bought it on my own volition.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing, Michael.
Thanks for the preview. All along I've been saying I'm very curious to see how they could improve on this one. I'll know in another few days.
Great video and amazing record collection you’ve got there!
New to the channel, truly enjoyable videos you are a font of analog knowledge. Keep it up 👍🏻
Who else hates that you don't get the nice book with the vinyl version?
The book is good enough to be sold separately
I do for sure, if only for the fact that the vinyl buyers are more likely to be the purists about this. TJR's solution is to by the CD super-deluxe and the single album so as to get the book and the vinyl in a cost effective way. Not ideal, but smart in the circs. I don't understand the packaging strategy other than to make money - Paul and Ringo have kids to support...
@@Robutube1 The TJR solution sounds like the way to go. I still wish they did these Beatles albums like the Led Zep reissues--where you get everything in one box.
@@EddieJazzFan yeah that seems more logical. Even just including the book with both the vinyl and cd box sets.
margaretsville -you have the chance to buy the CD big box set and the vinyl. Be glad because you can play the CD version in the car. Can’t do that with vinyl.
Ist review & unpacking of Abbey Road I have seen. Very cool to finally see it all, love your comaprisons of various versions too. I''l get the vinyl box set & super delux set.
I love Abbey Road. One of my favourite albums.
Bought it when it came out and bought the half speed mastered version, bought the CD version.
looks like i'll be buying it again...
These songs are so good that no matter how badly mixed or whether its played on a cheap device still sounds fantastic. I
A great review! Everything that needs to be said and shown is said and shown. Thank you!
Please read the review on the AnalogPlanet website!
@@AnalogPlanet I surely will! Thanks!
I have just read it (and listened to those fragments!). Great review!
You are the best thing on YT!
My vinyl copy is arriving via Amazon, today! Can’t wait!
Love your intro Michael. You do everything with humor and style....thoroughly entertaining..
Can’t wait for the big box set and the 2CD set which will arrive on Friday. Can’t wait!
Wow great video. First time I’ve heard your channel. Great detail & info. 🤘
Thanks! There are hundreds of videos on this channel and please visit the AnalogPlanet website. There's decades' worth of stuff...
VG+ video :) , and very professional explanation as well, thanks! One more thing, great biceps! holding the book for about 10 minutes is not a piece of cake thing!
Not bad for very old (72).... SIX PACK!
Wow, great review!
The remix of Giles Martin is fantastic...
The book of CD's edition is really good!
Best Regards from Naples, Italy! 😊
Great upload! ROXY Music and Abbey Road....You show off! Anyway thank you again, I enjoyed it very much and I agree the album was well Mixed. Btw,i was able to see Bryan Ferry last summer performing "AVALON'' LIVE in NYC. Stay well Michael. Hope you have a good Autumn!
Really enjoyable review, i've only got the original vinyl's. I definitely need, want the 50th anniversary Abbey Road release.
Hello from Dorset England 🇬🇧🥁🎸🎸🎸
It's amazing how these labels have been able to bilk their catalogs. Who wants to bet this won't be the last special box set edition of this album?
Good to know....Thanks Michael. 👍🏻
Heard this morning on Alexa today is the official 50th anniversary of the Abbey Road release! So cool to see this video.
Fantastic video thank you for this.
Wish I could afford this. One of my favorite albums.
some one probably already pointed this out already, but you asked why they changed the direction of the apple? They didn't change it the back is cropped. The apple in both fall under the A in abby. Just like where you point out the crosswalk on front is missing, it's the same on the back. I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for taking time to point out the better pressings of vinyl to get.
'Old Brown Shoe' became the B-Side to 'The Ballad of John and Yoko'.
Great Album - 'Abbey Road'!
Which had nothing to do with Let It Be
@@michaelconfoy2862
Correct.
Thank you for this review. I purchased the 4-CD Boxset and I'm hoping to receive it soon, so now i have a better idea about the content of the package (even though i already knew some things slighlty). Greetings from Santiago, Chile.
You should get a share of the sales. Your review MADE ME BUY IT! THANKS!
Enjoyed this, thanks!
What’s up with the Decca pressing? Now I have to pull out all of my US pressings to see if I own one. Thanks for the review Michael!
Nice stuff, Mikey.
Mine arrived from Amoeba Music last week, just the single LP. Thanks for your reviews.
i've ordered the 3LP box ... now after seeing this video .... i need desperatly the Super Deluxe / Book version too !!! lol ... great vid as usual ... greetings from Portugal ....
Love your review. Especially your comment regarding vinyls for Hipsters 😅
Thanks for the video:), Love your shirt haha
Great shirt... Just saw Bryan Ferry in concert. He still has it!
Just ordered this box set.. it`s on its way!
Looks great Abbey Road was always my favourite Beatle album-waiting for my order any day now-it seems the UK is later than the States for the release date!
Very nice presentation; gotta get some of these. I just started following you and it’s the best. Have you ever done a video on classical LPs?
Yes. There’s one in which Beethoven box to buy
Analog Planet thanks a lot from a fellow jerseyite👌
Look forward to another video on classics esp. those pieces used regularly but unknown to the general public. Thanks.
Great video, thank you.
Kevin Howlett's work on the BBC recordings is essential. He's a pro on that kind of work.
Well done, thank you so much.
I got the cd edition and it is pretty fantastic
Great video, beautifully done. Subscribed.......naturally!
Very enjoyable watch. I have a worn out, crackly French Pathe pressing, difficult for me to describe, but here goes.... there is something about the passing of time and time adding to the experience when playing that.
I listened to Abbey Road today, although it was ripped, and likely from the CD... via a stereo built into a truck. So yeah, not the highest end system, but it's still a great album!
SeanFromPVD At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what you listen to it on, it’s about your love for music!
Getting the two box sets you showed plus the single vinyl. My favorite album of all-time.
Now I want it. but I want an early pressing even more. New local vinyl festival coming near me soon.
Careful with early unopened pressings. Being shrink-wrapped for 50 years causes records to warp and become unplayable. Take into account that you'll be paying $150+, and it's definitely a risk to consider.
I got a chance to listen on Amazon ultra hd right after midnight when it was just released. I like most of it but I have heard many of the outtakes over the years. My fav was The Ballad Of John And Yoko but I really wanted to hear more of those takes since it was just John and Paul. Anyway a few Anthology rehashes with different edits. Overall I would give it a 8 out of 10 only because I am hoping someday they will release this stuff in session multi track unedited so we can hear the whole thing the way WE want. Fat chance but one could dream. I wish that the White Album also included the mono mix version because that is rare to me anyway. Cheers and thanks for the review.
"it was your whole life. " Exactly!
Are they all your records I'm impressed
The misaligned Apple covers were the earliest covers. Nice copy you have.!
I"ve had a chance now to listen to the new box set of Abbey Road over a couple of days. I let the set sit for a day before listening to it because I was concerned I'd be disappointed with it. It's over $100.00CAN and I already have 4 copies of Abbey Road. Two vinyl and two CD's. A bit of a back story... I grew up with the Beatles, anticipating each new release. Abbey Road is easily my favourite record of all time. I'm sure I've listened to it well over 100 times. The difference and improvement of this new mix is subtle at times but immediately obvious to me. What really makes this box set worth the hundred dollars are the 2 out take records. As Mr. Ferman says in his review you get to appreciate just how great these 4 artists were at their peak. Their creativity and how they meld as a group is awe inspiring. And I have to give credit to Gils Martin for his decision on what to include on these two discs. Especially the last two tracks on side 4. I was choked up listening to this and motivated to come here and add my 2 cents worth. So, So happy to have been of age in the early 60's. This box set was worth every penny.
The first album I ever purchased, I was ten years old!
I must be lucky being english I bought all my Beatles LP's when they came out and still got them
I inherited Beatles for Sale, Rubber Soul and Revolver - all original releases when my mother passed-away. The Revolver cover is a bit tatty (made up of scrap paper and Manufactured & Distributed by the Gramophone Company of India (Private) Limited
Yes, yes you are.LOL. wish I still had mine!
@Jim McCracken stereo just sounds like a live demo warts and all prefer it to mild mono mixes
precious, thanks. Best wishes.
Thank you for the review! I've got both boxed sets and the QRP-pressed single LP version. I also have many other versions of this album. With the original Capitol-pressed version, I noticed even back then that Capitol didn't use the best quality of vinyl and was noticeably hissy due to surface noise. QRP has poor quality control and a lack of experience in pressing records. I feel that they did OK on this latest release, maybe they are learning. QRP pressings seem to have a better sound quality compared to those by Optimal because I feel they use better vinyl.
Was wandering about this video
Cheers from Liverpool Appreciated as Im off the west coast of Africa Having to wait over a week back home for mine Appreciated
I am happy with my original.
I can't wait for my copies of this album to arrive on Friday! I waffle on whether AR or SP is my favorite Beatles album. I'm hopeful Giles will now turn his attention to Let it Be. Personal wish list for Let it Be...1) a cleaned up AAA version of the Phil Spector production, 2) a complete album minus Phil Spector in the vain of Let it Be Naked, but with more care and attention taken maybe retitled Get Back, and 3) alternates and outtakes.
BTW, the 50th anniversary of “Let It Be” which is finally released this year, but it has lots of surprises for that new set. Keep your eyes on the new Beatles release.
I have the two cd set and the single vinyl, also the 2009 remaster, but I also have the Harry T Moss cut from 1975 and comparing them is interesting, simply put the Harry Moss cut just sounds so good that it's difficult to listen to the others! But I'm happy I've got so much choice.
I have a MoFi half speed mastered copy from 1980 (that's the year printed on the back), but it has the Abbey Road photo on it and doesn't look like your copy. Is the '80 MoFi the issue with the smiley face EQ?
Love the Roxy Music shirt! Would be good to see some Roxy label reviews
Its a shame that vinyl lovers are forced to buy the cd/blue ray to get that awesome book.
I still have the same copy, and it was a Capitol reissue from the mid to late 1970’s with the target logo instead of the Apple logo (originally on the Apple label) and the orange label with the cropped Capitol wording on the bottom, and it’s still has the original mix. The 2009 and 2019 remastered versions are in 5.1 surround sound and it’s compatible with my Sony SQD-1000 SQ decoder and it will sound better in Quadraphonic in the 1970’s. I would Love to see more classic Beatles albums in SQ.
Great video...I always thought that the first UK pressing was the sleeve with the misaligned apple and less of the crosswalk..
I got 2 single album pressings and both had a noise band in the quiet sections. So I returned both and ordered the full CD/Bluray set instead. Hopefully Revolver will be next as THAT one is needing a Giles remix.
I bought the CD box set. I will be getting the 3 vinyl box set eventually.
great vid as always Mike!! HEY,mike are there ANY of the japanesse Pro-Use pressings that sounds any good? and is there any special points of interest in how the pro-Use series was pressed at all??? would love to learn a few details on those as i've always wanted a pro-Use copy of DSOTM but i can't see it sounding better than my 1st MoFi pressing... would love to hear your opnion and knowledge on the Pro-Use series Michael, thanks brother!! Fremer Rocks!!!!!!!! \m/ \m/
The Dark Side of the Moon is very good but all of these sound “cool”.
Thank you
Thank you. What a nice Abbey Road vinylsafari.
Great. Thank you.
The mis-placed Apple logo on the back of the original UK pressing was actually a printing error (Not a design choice!).....The separate layers that made up the logo and tracklising were shifted to the left against the background of the brick wall.
It came out at the same time as those printed correctly, so it was a roll-of-the-dice as to which one you found in the shops at the time. All those first pressings omitted the Side B label track listing for "Her Majesty".
Very quickly after - maybe a day or so - the covers were all corrected with the Apple logo placement, and "Her Majesty" was now printed onto the Side B label track listing.
The earliest copies - with the cover and label errors, and correct cover with label error - also came in the same black inner sleeve as used originally with the The Beatles (White Album).
I have a lovely copy of the mis-placed logo sleeve, with no "Her Majesty" on the label, and in an original black inner sleeve.... it plays beautifully! It's my go-to copy for any re-issue comparison for sound quality....the 2009 remasters come close in overall fidelity, but somehow, the original still sounds better!
Can't wait to hear this new remix version.....
Thanks Michael that's a 'fab' review.
I like the Roxy Music tour shirt!!
Gracias!!!!
Do you get the book in the vinyl boxset?
Hi. It’s called a zebra crossing.
legg
I need a room like this
what if an earthquake happens
That shirt is amazing. Did you use All temperature Cheer since 1983 to keep the colors from fading?
I thought it was sprayed on
I didn't wear it much...
