i liked how you explained how you broke up the desired chunks into row and col spans and displayed that as a layer as well, after i watched this video i went and designed my css collage exactly the steps you did and it worked, thanks. I have been a flex-box user for about a year now. this works great for fixed size but when you want to start collaging, grid is powerful and easy to use.

sorry about that, in that moment I'm talking about *vh* which is unit just like *px* but it means viewport height that mean 100vh = your curent screen height

Hmmm, the grid/cell cuts off the pictures when minimizing the window, is this normal? How can I fix that?

It's even easier with grid-auto-flow: dense in the grid container.
All gaps will be filled automatically by rearranging grid items to make it dense.
