In this video I go over how I use CSS Grid to make responsive layouts. I show you how to take Sketch designs to create the layout structure. Then I show you the full front end coding tutorial, where I create the structure of the elements in HTML and then make the grid in CSS. I use grid-template-columns and grid-template-rows to define the number and size of each element and then I use grid-template-areas to define each block of the design.
Once the web design is completed I show you how to make this design responsive by adding an '@ media' and defining the columns, rows and areas for the mobile view. Finally I apply CSS styling to the font, colors and alignment to make the final polished design.

4 years later and this is still the best CSS Grid tutorial I have ever seen. Glad I discovered this one today!
That really helped tie together a few lessons I was looking at. The whole grid layout, and the explanation of the project flow from initial setup, to styling, and tying it together with the mobile design was concise and easy to follow.

i'm so glad i found this. i was trying to set up grid using the other method where you set item sizes, then order, then apply the repeat autofit/fill function on the container. i couldn't for the life of me get it to view properly in smaller media views. this worked brilliantly for what i wanted to achieve. thankyou! i think i'll use this method to structure the items regardless from now on.

Also Important to note that the media query code only works if you put it at the bottom of the CSS page. It took me half an hour to figure that out.

Why though???
When I was enrolled in a web course, the part about CSS grid only involved a bare bones photo gallery. I really wanted to understand how it's used to construct a complex web page. This video is just what I needed! I feel more comfortable in designing my own page to include in my portfolio.
I've used css grid before, and I've used media queries (mostly reading from a tutorial), but I've never seen a simpler and more elegant way of synergizing the two--and I've never heard a more understandable explanation. This is the first time I'm going to heed the advice "Mobile first" and actually be assured of a useful product when I scale up to the desktop.

Without any discussion, yours is the best and most succinct tutorial on this subject than any expert I have come across.
