    Great stuff! Did you use the whole quart of cloud white? This makes me so excited to start my boler, I'm hoping to start the frame prep for POR15 this week. My hope/plan is have it ready for next summer. You've shown some great ideas, love the no rivits

      That’s awesome! We bought our trailer in December of ‘19 and didn’t think it needed as much as it did, but with any project.. if you keep chipping away at it you’ll see the light at the end of the tunnel get brighter! “Slow and steady wins the race” with these kind of projects. 🐢 If you have any topics you’d like seen please let me know…I’m here for you guys! 👍🏼

      Thanks, like someone else mentioned before on another video, your door latch modification would be a great video. So many people need to.replace the old Bergman l400.

    These videos are great man thanks for putting this out. We're painting our boler and I'm a carpenter without much experience in this kind of stuff and it's helping big time 😘

    Just wanted to comment and thank you for the in depth look at your process throughout your scamp project! We just got a boler and it needs some exterior love, finding good DIY-ish guides without fancy shops and equipment was tough.
    Hope you are doing well and enjoying the "finished" project! (Are they ever truly finished?)

      Thank you! Still working on fixing some things, but I’m happy I can take it out for the day now! Yes, truly never finished! 👍🏼

    Thanks for the review on the 5018 selfleveling additive, I have been following this item since it came out.

    Thank you so much for sharing everything- you make it look so easy!! My 16' scamp has the rivets- would I just primer over them and paint them along with everything else? Would that help seal them? Thank you so much!!

      Yes, if you coat them with something like paint, that would definitely add an additional layer of protection, and thanks for the kind words! 👍🏼

    “If you can paint a child’s bedroom, you can roll and tip your trailer.” Needed that! I’m an excellent interior painter, but painting my Scamp scares me 😳

      I did learn a lot after I rolled and tipped the top half, and it’s all sanded down now. The color was too bright, but when I paint the top half real soon, I hope you watch the video. I’ll have a helper which is what I needed the first time. 👍🏼

    Is there a primer that is self leveling like the paint. That you don’t need a fancy spray machine for?

    • @westcoast_johnny
      @westcoast_johnny  Рік тому

      Hi Molly, yes you can roll auto primer on, here’s a link to a video where it’s demonstrated. If you use a high build primer for a fiberglass trailer you would only need one good coat of auto primer. Hope this helps, Johnny ua-cam.com/video/DLs5zzwPdoo/v-deo.html

    Hey there, this video is quite helpful! I’m wondering how much Alexseal you used to paint the trailer. How much for top and bottom?

    • @westcoast_johnny
      @westcoast_johnny  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Brook, I used less than a quart when I rolled and tipped the top half, including roof. It goes a long way when reduced properly. (They’ll have all that info.)

    Great stuff Mr. West Coast. Getting ready to paint the topsides of my boat same way. However, sanded too much of the Alexseal finish primer off & need to recoat. Don't want to wait on delivery or spend the $$$ on Alexseal. Can I use a good quality epoxy or poly primer such as you did? Which would you recommend - poly or epoxy finish primer? Thanks

      @westcoast_johnny  3 роки тому

      Hi Casey, great question. I did not use the Alexseal primer, I used FeatherFlll G4 which is a high build primer, sands easily. At that time I thought I’d be spraying but when I discovered how cool rolling and tipping is I was already in primer. ( Polyurethane)Alexseal told me it was comparable. I’d love to hear an update! Thanks 👍🏼

      @@westcoast_johnny Agree - rolling & tipping works great. Did one of my boats that way with Awlgrip with great finish. With the Alexseal rolling additive, I really didn't need to tip on some large hatches I already painted. Wanted to finish up the topsides with spraying due to tight spaces to get into, but already invested in the rolling converter & thinner. Never got an answer back from Alexseal about spraying with the rolling converter & thinner - so I think I'll spray some primer & roll out what paint I have left. Did Alexseal tell you a poly or epoxy would work equally as well? Also, I was told to add 1% rolling additive to the combine total of base coat & converter - not to include the thinner in the total count. Does that sound about right? Thanks again.

    Why did you install/seal the fan prior to painting?

    • @westcoast_johnny
      @westcoast_johnny  3 роки тому

      Hi Courtney, I wanted to get all the electrical work out of the way, and the trailer body still had tons of prep work to do. Honestly it shouldn’t matter which you do first, as long as you mask the sealant before it’s painted.
