A D-18 may sound simple, but as the song goes "thank you Mr. Martin I'm alright" we all really need to thank Mr. Martin for coming up with such a timeless model. A really good D-18 is about all the guitar anyone will likely ever need. Although guitar playing - and collecting - is all about wanting, not needing!
This guitar is inspired by the great prewar D-18s built by C.F. Martin & Co. and is a mix and match of features to come up with a very light, very resonant, very loud and woody sounding instrument.
We used a maple "V" rod to reinforce the neck, something that we got from banner era Gibson flat tops and, albeit being not historically correct for a Martin, it sounds great and is very stable (more so than the ebony rod). The bracing is "forward shifted", the nut is 1 3/4'' and the bridge has the wider 2 3/8" spacing at the saddle. The pure nitrocellulose finish is about as thin as it gets and it comes in what we call our "vintage correct" gloss.
Usual moon logged "red" Euro spruce top (Picea Abies) - with quite a bit of bearclaw (that gained this guitar the 'Scarface' nickname in the shop), Honduran mahogany back, sides and neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge.
    80/20 'bluegrass' strings set.
Let us know in the comments how you like D-18s and how you like this one in particular. We really tried to build into this guitar all the good things we like about D-18s.
