Just watched pt1 & pt2 again, Jan was a Huge inspiration in my match fishing, I wanted to be the Man in Red at my club at 19 years old. I remember driving from St.Helens to Nottingham on Saturday and Sunday to watch him at Holme Pierrepont. Cool, Class, Humble. Rolls Royce thru & thru. Sadly missed, forever cherrished.

Happy memories when I won 2 tickets from Angling times to go to tackle mania. My son went with me and we had the great pleasure of meeting the Gentleman Jan Porter. Treasured memories as I still have the photo of Gentleman Jan and my son. RIP Sir. And thank you so much.

just found this,,i had a long time out of angling due to the useual reasons but back in the day, my late wife suggested I get back into angling so off we trotted to a "fishing show" at Donnington park,,,i wandered around and ended up at the shimano stand and was approached by a chap who politely asked me if there was anything he could help me with,,,we gotinto conversation and he gave me a few tips on this and that and off home we went.....a while later,at another show we met the same chap again and we had a further chat about river fishing, music etc and I still didn't know who this fella was,as I have said ,I was out of touch with the angling world and was just finding my feet again.anyway,to keep it short I finally found out who this guy was and what he had achieved in his angling career,it was a great pleasure to have met him and shared time with him, thank you jan

only just found this, sad to find Jan has passed. I worked with Jan when we were both Tin bashers at Rolls Royce in Hucknall. I remember the brave leap he made to give up his job and a steady income, to open his first shop. The guy never had a bad word for anyone, if he could help you would. One of life's best.
    RIP old friend.

I did not know this guy but think I would have connected with him he sounds pretty cool to me, iv'e just finished passion for angling having given up ten years ago after sixty years of classic angling split cane and centre pins etc all gone, now want to go fishing shite.
