- Hi everyone!
In this video tutorial I will show you how easy is to change differential oil on BMW e39.
Как заменить масло в редукторе.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I changed it on my BMW 540i after 1.5 years. The oil was in good condition but I like when it stays in the same condition.
You should do this every 100 000 km.
I used Castrol SAE 75W-90 API GL-5
I highly recommend to change aluminium rings on both plugs

Thank you for watching!
@@mikes.garage thanks! I spilled some fluid and it is IMPOSSIBLE TO CLEAN UP😂 it took a whole can of break clean to get the greasy residue completely off. Tightened the bolts as much as I can and I’ll take it for a spin tomorrow to make sure everything is in order.
If you have torque wrench, you can tight it to 70 Nm or 52 ft-lb
Great video! Looks super easy, might do it myself.

This is hex bolts.
Hi Mike great video. Do all e39 have open diff? I have a 520i and im planning on changing the oil myself.
Hi, yes all e39 have open diff. Your 520i will be the same for sure.
@@mikes.garage thank for your quick response!

I've just bought a 2000 E39, and the differential housing looks very black, have yet to get it up on a jack and inspect it. Might it be that the oil has leaked out and all around the outer housing?
Maybe oil is coming out thru axle seals. Usually is coming out very small amount, then dust sticks and looks bad.
@@mikes.garage thanks for the advice, maybe the axle seals and the differential oil needs replacing in that case
Is the same process and procedure for 96 e39 528i bmw? And do i use the same oil used in video?
+Bat Man Yes, it is the same process and the same oil. If you are in mostly warm climate you can use sicker oil 80W-90. Use 90W-145 weight if you are in hot climate.
Mike's Garage thanks mate really appreciate it Mike, i live in New Zealand and its summer here at the moment which is pretty hot.
Bat Man Good for you. I live in Canada and we had -25C last week 🏂 You can use 80W-90 it cost cheaper.
thumds down , because Shit MUSIKK WTF
Kristian riisnes You can try to make yours video and put any music you want.
Same oil can u used for. 2000 bmw e39 528i or they need different oil pls help me out thanks
Yes, you need the same oil 75W90
@@mikes.garage thanks
I have question how many liters they take pls
@@Flamur804 For your car around 1.1 litre, maybe a little more. You need to fill it up until the oil start to come out from the filler hole.
@@mikes.garage thanks

Where do you find the aluminum sealing rings? I can't seem to locate but maybe check at stealership for those...
