@Grand Funk It's not the writer's "fault" for writing about the dangers of heroin. It's an unfortunate part of life. Aside from the being Italian or the gangster part, it's the best show because it not only entertains on a superficial level, it's actually incredibly deep. I really would encourage everyone to give that show a watch. There is a good reason it's rated by many (including Rolling Stone) to be the greatest show of all time. And if someone has a problem with the negative portrayal of Italians, they are just looking for something to bitch about and totally missing that the show is really speaking about the human condition as a whole.

I know what you mean about folk, or at least what we usually associate with folk. This is very dark and haunting, and the acoustic guitars on this recording have great tone. It's like Joy Division/The Cure with acoustic instruments.
Many years ago a young man sat on a stool in a coffee house and began singing. Fred Neil made an instant impression, and The Dolphins has remained a song which reminds me of my attachment to the ocean. His album is a cherished reminder of that evening. Thanks for posting it.
just freaking out here & now because I heard my son Logan playing my dad's (Buzzy Linhart's) old acoustic guitar very closely to these chords in the other room - he stopped and I made him come see/hear this and right away he heard it, and we see a lot of black & white pictures of Fred playing in The Village with my dad's band Seventh Sons backing him (one shows Steve DeNaut on bass) and also the cover shot from Bleeker & McDougal that I believe my dad's Friend Kai Shuman took - and my other son is named Kai. Wow, dolphin time.

He also wrote a song for Buddy Holly, and he played lead guitar on Bobby Darin's "Dream Lover". It's rumored that he also played lead guitar on Paul Anka's "Diana".
I’m from Philadelphia. I’m 70 years old now, but I use to scour all the record stores for blues LP’s. Looking at the credits of an album by Fred Neil, an artist I never heard of, I saw that Alan Wilson was credited with harmonica on the album ( Canned Heat, and I loved Alan ). Anyhow, I was blown away by the Fred Neil album. Literally remember dropping to my knees and lying prostate on the floor. Yea, this track is that powerful. So are the other songs he does

Today is August 29th, 2021. I've just seen that Sopranos' episode in which this song plays. It's beautiful and haunting, and seems like I've known it for ages, but it was just the very first time I heard it. Sorry for my poor english writing.
Christ,.. all I did was hitch hike across America to try to find him in Coconut Grove. Never saw the Sapranos but Freddy sadly would have approved as it has been said he had similar hobbies.
