Good perspective. Credit card limit can be wisely used as emergency fund, if you repay it completely every month. In last 20 years I have not paid even one rupee as interest on Credit card outstanding amount. it's a double edged sword if you can't keep control on exp.AND repay fully every month, don't treat Credit card limit as emergency fund
Don't ever overspend. I have been using credit card for more than 25 yeras. Never failed n payment. Used only for convenience sake. Live withon your means and stay cool and healthy.
Very good content sir for all the innocent retail investors of our India… EF is extremely important for all… We don’t have any kind of awareness regarding this… Thank you for your selfless service to build our Indian people a strong mindset regarding EFs .
Credit card limit shouldn't be treated as part of the emergency fund since it only pushes out the expense to a future date. It can be treated as a tool for liquidity ie you can save your emergency fund in liquid funds which take a day or two to liquidate and use credit cards instead.
Credit card available limit must not be included in Emergency Fund. CC only enables us to quickly pay [no redemption delays etc]. But this amount has to be paid back in the next cycle (15-20 days), preferably in full.
Credit card limit can be used to overcome a short term cash crunch. The credit card due must be cleared immediately after the bill has been generated every month.
Credit card cannot be treated as a part of emergency fund. At max, it's only an emergency loan. Just because you have access to certain level of credit limit, you cant treat it as your's. You need to oay it back (with or without interest)
Credit card will be part of A, living expenses. What about saving emergency fund in Gold certificate or physical gold bars? Its easy encashed and appreciation is sure?
Credit cards can be used only for very short periods like delay in salaries, for a period less than its payment cycle. It is not a real emergency fund at all.
I agree with concent explained of emergency fund, however I feel commitments those are beyond one year put in balance fund where some part is invested in equities for growth purpose
Credit cards with high credits also a instrument for emergency Fund, but again its not your money, once you spend, you have 47-50 days to pay it back, and we all know credit cards have the highest interest for the balance amount, hence paying the whole amount which you consumed is a wise option. You can spoil your credit score also if you may not be able to pay within the 48 days credit period. Hence Credit cards can't be treated as a tool for Emergency fund. The true emergency fund means you are saving your own money for an emergency situation, but Credit card credit amount is a loan, you can't consider loan for a emergency fund.
If credit card are used in a structured manner by paying the bills on time without any finance charges, I think it can be used as an one time emergency fund. I also never paid additional charges for credit card till date.

Health insurance is the primary thing one should have.. After taking health insurance only focus on building emergency fund.

Rather than we keep funds in FDs for emergency fund.. it is better to keep in Mutual funds and draw down as SWP..
