I'm 28 years old and bought myself a cheap MK 4 Golf, 2 weeks ago for practice driving, 4 speed automatic. Damn near spotless inside and out, silver colored, and the previous owners splurged on brand new studded tires with sick rims (not the name of the rims, just sick). haha Last ridden by the 90 year old mother of the guy who sold it to me, beautiful car and such a timeless look to it, i was blown away by the amount of technology of that car, as growing up my mother always bought run down cars from the early 90's.
I own a 2001 1.6 16V 105hp. I bought it second hand 1 year ago with 216k km and it's needed some fixing on the engine (it burnt oil, now it's fixed) and timing belt, tyres and a few other basic maintenance. It works great, the engine starts correctly and drives smooth. Hope I can keep it for long!
VW is getting addictive. Bought a 2000 Bora 1.6 last year because the repair of my Vento (1992) was taking a long time during winter. All new rubbers etc on the Vento; seats look like new, created a new ceiling for it; engine completely revised, paint looks like new; makes it the best car I have ever owned, feels like a tank, drives like a dream. Use it for Carpentry jobs mainly, huge trunk with easy access. The MK4 Bora still needs the small repairs and exchanges of a 23 year old one. Starting the like it though, lowered, new side panels, powered steering not overly electronic yet. Not planning on selling either one; just too much fun to have a choice. Both rock solid at about 200K km; the older one is now a classic and thus cheaper in insurance.
My 04 Jetta has 275000 miles, 2.0 gas engine. I bought it with 140000 miles. Once I replaced most of the vacuum lines and the engine management computer has been utterly reliable.
I found mine for 340 us bucks. Then i put in just order 1k us bucks to make it reliable. Now I got a great commutter car to get me to and fromm work. I has lasted 1.5 years. I hope that it keeps going a long time. It now has 160,000 miles. I hope that it qill get to 200,000 miles. I will keep driving it as long as the repairs don't get crazy. So far it only has needed small fixes here and there. I supper happy with it as of now.
I Got the Golf IV 1.6 FSI Aut. from 2003 with some factory sports engineering and M19 Recaro pilot seat and pure quality brakes, sparks, oil, filter etc. It runs like a dream with 290.000KM on the clock... about 125-135HP, but really fast acceleration, top speed not much above 205 Km/t (it will explode i think). Takes all similar cars on small roads and really fast from 60-130 Km/t.... Really really nice car... Just take care of your car and keep that rust away... Love it!
I owned a 2002 VW golf 1.9 TDI. Owned it from 2008 to 2013. Was sad to let her go, I had no place to store it. Been looking for another one, perhaps the variant this time for more space. 17" rims make for a bumpy ride , 15" is much nicer. The color was "indigo Pearlescent blue" . In the sun it shines purple. Good times..,,😃👍
Wonderful build quality. I drove a Bora but what put me off buying a Golf mk4 GT TDi 150 was the totally dead steering feel of these cars. I still own my 1997 Peugeot 306 TD mk2, which, though admittedly slightly modified and tuned up, is a fantastic drive, albeit very rattly with a cheap looking and feeling interior.
A few days ago i bought my first Golf 4 Highline, 1.8 Liter. And 1998, it's a bit of a fixer upper but it runs very well and with some Love the car will be so Awesome!, and just 19k km :D
in canada in 2007 we got a city golf that sold along side the mk5 that was actually a straight up mk4. still had the old taillights and headlights. makes getting parts pretty confusing. i have one.
U also forgot the 2.0L gti and the 2.8L vr6 with 205bhp. I own 4 which i will never sell. Golf gt tdi with the amazing ahf engine. Golf gttdi pd engine. Also amazing. 2.8 vr6 And the r32. Theres nothing better. I love em. They dont make em like they use to do
Hey you forgot the Golf IV FSI 1.6 16V Aut. 3d from 2003... What a Car, i got one with some sports features incl. Recaro M19 Pilot seat etc. It is a really nice car. Got 290.000KM. Still running like new, just need to take care of them ;)
First car i bought in ireland was a 1.4 16valve mk4 golf had 180 thousand kilometres comfortline modle 3 door in the nice dark blue only paid 350 euros for ot and still regret selling her
I have the 2005 1.8t gti and the previous owner heavily modified it and it's making almost 300whp So are they boring stock or are you just saying the look of them is boring?
have one with 2.0. Driving every day for the past 3 years. Cheap, nothing brakes, but I hate it every time I drive it. 0 emotions. Can't wait till I buy something with some character.
hahah! I am learning to love my 2.0. I purchased it as a backup car while I worked on my "main daily". It is growing on me. Cheap, nothing breaks....mine was kind of broken when I got it.
Its an oppinion ofcourse, but i dont understand the "boring" part.. im driving my third mk4 golf now and to me its always a very plesant place to be and to drive around in. I have had about 17 cars now, including an benz 190E wich was one of the best driving cars i have had, but i still prefer the mk4 over the 190E 😅
I had a 2L petrol version of one of these. Crashy suspension, unreliable electrics, drank fuel, clunky pedals. Absolute Shit Box. I'd choose a Mazda 323 from that era hands down.
On my 2004 r32 I have 160.000 mph and running like a champion, still top 165 mhp( of course speedometer) I do have tectonics cams, and giac software cams files the rest of the engine is oem wolkswagen.
I own golf mk4 from 2003 with 1.6lit engine made 100000km in 3 years and in 2006 swap my 1.6 to 1.8t.from audi TT WITH 180bhp and tuned up to 220bhp and still have it after 20 years with 290000km and keep going im not going to sell it.i am care it too much and keep it safe to private garage and is like new from the day i bought it.The only problems face on these years in the many electrical problems that have this model ,windows locks maf sensors ignitiion coils and few others .But in my opinion is the most beutiful design car the golf mk4 .the other generations after mine is not so beutiful in my opinion. The R32 mk4 was the best ever made but unfortunately never export to Greece only USA EU UK..Is my dream car .
Love my 05 Golf TDI!!!! Pushing 550,000km with original engine and it's running perfect still 😁

I drove a 2001 Golf TDI for 18 years and put just under 400K miles on it. Best car I've ever had!
'03 GTI 1.8T with 286 000km and still my favourate car 😀

Mk4 gang all the way. I’ve got 2 1.8ts and I’m looking at adding a TDI to the mix. 20 year old cars still turn heads here in Seattle.
My 04 Jetta has 275000 miles, 2.0 gas engine. I bought it with 140000 miles. Once I replaced most of the vacuum lines and the engine management computer has been utterly reliable.
I have a MK4 V6 4motion, 87k miles on the clock ... Love it

I've got a really tidy low miles 1.9tdi mk4 does 60mpg and 120mph and will tow a mack truck! I love it to bits!

I have a mk IV Golf Confortline from '98...1 year younger than I :') I love it, but it has a 1.4 liter enginee so it is slower than a snail.
in canada in 2007 we got a city golf that sold along side the mk5 that was actually a straight up mk4. still had the old taillights and headlights. makes getting parts pretty confusing. i have one.
4th car after my jetta i got a 2000 vw golf gls 4 door 5 speed n love it
If u look in your back of your hatch with the gls 2.0 u could have a stock amp and a 8 player disc player
Is good to change golf 4 automatic to manual
And remember the Golf 4 platform, PQ34, gave us the Octavia 1U and others across the VAG range.
i got a 5d 2000 golf gls 1.8t 20v. is it the same 1.8t in the gti?
U also forgot the 2.0L gti and the 2.8L vr6 with 205bhp.
I own 4 which i will never sell.

So are they boring stock or are you just saying the look of them is boring?
I think they look amazing! I think they are a little boring stock power wise, however very minimal mods can make it a lot more powerful!
Not boring at all with the 1.9 tdi pd's if well maintained @@thecoolguy9364

The r32 came with a dsg !!! Why didnt the uk get this

You are obviously not a German as you have a sense of humour. I love my Auto Mk 4 1.9 TDI estate and at 152k it’s barely run in.
Mk4 r32 with 200,000k daily driver. VWs are reliable if you do preventative maintenance. If not they will slowly break. I've had every generation.
I have mk4 1.6sr best petrol engine
Very very common car in the uk
I had a 2L petrol version of one of these. Crashy suspension, unreliable electrics, drank fuel, clunky pedals. Absolute Shit Box. I'd choose a Mazda 323 from that era hands down.
Haha no I have a 2.0 can confirm it will do 330 thousand ks slow as guts and used a bit of fuel good car though
@@RICHYSUNCLE I will say the engine and drive train were utterly reliable and mine had good power but 27mpg pottering around the 'burbs is rubbish.
@@club1fan552 good car though for sure
Mk3 is the old mk6.
Mk4 golf is the old mk7.5
I have a 2L very tuff very slow very boring nothing brakes not that compatible uses a bit of fuel I’d buy one in a pinch
Ia uite romanașul :))
DSG which is German for something 😂😂😂
