    It really depends on what wildland firefighters you ask. If you talk to district and engine crew members (usually Type II firefighters), they are more likely to be wearing cheaper boots. Talk to a hotshot crew or jumpers or rappellers are you will mostly see the traditional loggers from Whites, Nicks, JK, Franks, Drews. The hiker style boots have gotten more popular in recent years, but they simply don't last as long. Folks who spend 1000+ hours per year on the fireline know it's worth taking the time to break in heavy boots. Folks who spend more time on concrete in their season will opt for immediate comfort.

    I can’t imagine buying the Danner’s over the other PNW offerings, but the professionals are the ones doing it, and I’m no woodland firefighter, so what do I know?

    • @GentlemansJourney
      @GentlemansJourney  2 роки тому +8

      Agreed! We will certainly try to get a larger study next time but who knows maybe they haven’t committed to pulling the trigger on better boots. I know mechanics that use craftsman over snap on and contractors that use Ryobi over Milwaukee 🤷‍♂️

      I did wildland firefighting and we were told it’s better to buy whites, nicks or franks. The custom made boots will always last longer and worth the price in comfort and quality.

      @@GentlemansJourney I did. I tried the danner when they first came out. Extremly comfortably. Lace hock broke day one. Returned those got second pair, same thing break within a week. Danner was great, refunded my money no hasle. The boot was just not tough enough. Been ff for 23 years. wore Nicks for most of that time. Now that Im no long part of a crew I wear a hiker style boot.

    I am a wildland firefighter with CalFire/Rattlesnake (National Guard) and I wear danners.
    They are not bad, we’re mostly broken in day one, but if I have too many fires in a week (even after the break in) I get blisters.
    I don’t like the look of the danners and I really like the look of the original Whites, but I hear that Franks are a better version of the same boot.
    They don’t feel right though when I try them on.
    I’m willing to pay whatever to get my last pair of outdoor boots.

      They’re not great… Pro’s: they’re a hiker style, they have immense comfort, and they’ll allow you to work
      Con’s: the waterproofing system they have sucks and keeps water in not out, they’re weird to walk on after a long day, while they are comfy, they lack support in your feet and lower back, they delaminate very quickly, they suck on hot spots, and they’re very bulky on the heels

  • @kenanmaccormack1524

    If you fight fire and you’re on a handcrew/engine crew, buy whites, nicks or Drew’s or Frank’s. If you’re helitack, tender, or IC. Danner, Georgia boot, or kenetrec’s will not steer you wrong, but it’s all up to preference as well. I’ve seen dudes on shot crews running danners and dudes that are on tenders running some hardcore nicks loggers🤷🏾‍♂️ it’s all about how your foot feels and how much you’re willing to spend on your boots
