BACK to BENDLEBY. Is the Defender up to the SIDETRACKED standards???

- We tackle another one of Bendleby's awesome tracks, Pat's Peak. It's the first time Mark has put the new rig into low range. Not everything goes to plan and Matt finds this out the hard way.

Bunch of legends! Loved meeting you both at the show! Safe travels and hopefully get to send it together sometime soon! Yew!
When I used to run Range Rovers, the same thing happens to them. I made a loop of flat steel to wrap around the top coil inside the tower to clamp the top of the spring inside the tower. Some owners extended the side nipple of the tower a little longer to catch the coil also. End of problem.
You’re living the dream :) thanks for taking us along for the ride. Be safe and live long…
Really enjoyed that episode, awesome tracks and great vision of your rigs.
Thanks Paul!
Good to see the defender finally on the tracks. That’s a nice 80series. Tell old mate with the sore fingers to give them a good soak in cider , always makes them feel better 👍🏼
Will do, thanks!
Defender looks.great!!!
Sick trip boys 👌🏼
Get a pair of Gwyn Lewis dislocation cones, i have it on my 110 and they are great!! A bit different than other makes and they are silent!!
Good one boys... That is the next place we want to take the MUX.. Great to see the defender in low gear.. Cant wait for your next travel/destination series.
Cheers guys.
Lovin it Lads , we're there for the long weekend for our second time and this time I get to try my GQ out. It's an amazing property!
Nice one!
Loving the Defender.
Been hanging for a trip video.
Angus’ 80 👌👌
Kingpin design and fab in qld do defender parts. Australian made and Rick knows how to get the best from a Defender
I have a set of dislocation cones on my defender 110 and they come out all the time with my flex, but has never not seated correctly. Give them a go, if they’re not what you are after then you can get different coils, the cones tend to be cheaper,so it’s worth it if she handles well. Came across your channel by chance and am loving it, I’ll be staying. 💪
Cheers Marco.
Flares look great on the Defender
Love the Defender, go the Landy
Need to use some spring retainers and the right size springs
You can buy dislocation cones from terrarfirma which allow your springs to leave their socket and be guided back into place.
I've had them on all my land rovers
@@kevinward4714 so it seems. But mine was nice
Terrafirma make dislocation hooks,
That way they can catch the spring.
This is all normal stuff for the defenders.
They flex very well
Nice episode boys👍🏼 did you film the knarley last decent of Pat’s??
Yep, thats where we had the spring problem.
If you want the front to work at peak performance retaining the rear is critical. Some (UK Lads) may think dropping a rear wheel into rear steer looks cool but such a free rear end only encourages a lazy front end with more bind than the rear to be even lazier. Sort free height and coil rates and retain the rear. Kingpin have the goods. 👍
Great track that one. Would be an awesome challenge to have a go at it in the opposite direction if it was permitted.
Hopefully one day!
Next time get on the forums and ask some knowledgeable blokes about Defender suspension. You need a set of relocation cones. Also you might want to get ahold of Grizzly and Bear! Amazing people and running airbagman very surprising setup.
Thanks, will do.
@@SIDETRACKED Just to calrify! I do know you mentioned the relocation cones and don't want them. But as i worded above its a NEED thing unfortunately. You can use limit straps or spring tie downs but they limit the wonderful travel.
Wow...shite...perfect. Long time between drinks. Thanks.
Thoughts on ur james baroud tent? Do u fit in it length ways, is there enough room for two? Doesnt look to be the xxl version but the evasion evo?
Correct, the xxl was going to look strange on the narrow vehicle so decided on the smaller one. At about 6'1, i wouldnt want it any shorter, same with width, im a skinny dude, so its ok but a larger couple would be way better in the xxl. I've loved it, quality tent, so damn quick and easy to set/pack up and still one of the lightest in that class.
Let them pop out and install dislocation cones. I guess thats what happens when coil/shocks are mismatched.
Use highlift jack to lift my car to kick the coils back in. Doesnt superior engineering or scorpion or snake racing have flexi coils or something?
Flexy coils weren't available and struggle with a load, a bit of trial and error will find a solution.
What are your thinking on the defender now Marko that you have had it off road?
Are you happy with how it performs / the mods you have done so far?
Anything you have changed your mind on set up wise?
Hi Lee, pretty happy with everything (except coil selection). Needs to be re-geared to get the limited power back in the right range.
You need to go back to kingpin and get his coil retainers. Run them on my rangie with -20mm lift and 12in shocks without any issues with the flex
Saw some good driving (Nick) and not so good. The Landrover should never have left the drive way at home. Having coil springs fall out of their pockets on full droop could have been a life changing disaster on that very steep descent. Thanks for the video.
Cheers Deane.
I have a full set of dislocation cones at the right price. Problem sorted
Les Richmond Automotive have the best spring for Rovers. Their in Melbourne, hit them up!
Thanks Mike.
How cool is that Land Rover????
Rookie mistake with the springs. Most coilsprung landy owners have had this happen, even with standard length springs & shocks. A couple a jubilee clips will sort that, or Gwyn Lewis spring hooks. No need to fork out stupid money for taller springs.
Best 4X4XFAR
N70 or n80 hilux and what he do to fit 33 tyres on ans they 305,75,r17
They are 285, more info can be found on the walk through of this vehicle.
What's wrong with dislocation cones?
I prefer to have the coils under some compression, I'd always worry they aren't seated correctly. Just personnel preference.
@@SIDETRACKED good to see the defender on the tracks.
Nice work. 70 series owners shouldn't offer to "play games". Thier egos can't handle the L
Why would you not be a fan of spring retainers?
Apologies, more-so dislocation cones.
Great video and great builds. Putting you hands in the coils mid decent on shale rocks is a really dumb move, imagine if the vehicle started moving! Lost finger, maybe a whole arm. Really rookie thing to do, hope you guys learn from it. The comment "good work putting you body on the line" is the dumbest thing iv heard you guys say, what would you say if he lost his arm?
Ok I'm going to say it, no one cares for the fake low voice.
It's so obnoxious and a really poor attempt at coping the way a 90's Schwarzenegger or Stallone movie tried to keep a type of audiences attention and add credibility to the character. You know who else did it??? Elizabeth Holmes from Theranos, one of the biggest scammers, and you doing it is even more sad. There are even moments where one of the other cameras catches voice in B roll or something and the voice sound normal especially that one guy. Don't make it difficult to watch your stuff, please.
Cheers Awie.
