I remember when I was a bristol student, there was def a lot of consulting people, IB was talked about a lot less, more middle office roles. The majority of the accounting students did end up in audit as well
From what I know Bayes is only well regarded for post grad. The unis you listed are fairly equal, but I'd say Manchester edges it as it has a strong international ranking too.@@annas9443 I'd say: Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff, City
Hello there, My son got offers from Nottingham university and Bristol university, which one he should firm? He is looking to go into IB. Could you please help us decide Thanks
Both are great options and have a strong chance of success. Bristol is seen as more prestigious so would be known better for quality grads, plus I know the set up is strong in terms of student led help. Either way they'd have to still do a lot of work to get in but make sure he gets spring week offers as those will boost his chances.
This was amazing, absolutely phenomenal man I was actually blown away by how comprehensive this is; would you say that the university is more important than the degree however my guy?
Thanks for the kind words and hopefully it helps clear a few things! And yes id say the uni is more important than degree eg history at Cambridge is better than maths degree at a uni ranked 50th......but doing a more specialized degree from lower down the rankings is the only way to compete with the top uni students.
@@CertifiedTalks Thank you even more brother for the response! Ahhh right right I see my man, thank you so much honestly because I'm applying for PPE at UCL, King's and Warwick because pure economics wasn't the most exciting haha
Hi, based on what was seen online(student room and other forums), certain individuals had a very strong opinion that cambridge economics is much more quantitative and harder than oxford e&m and is equivalent, if not superior regarding its applicability towards Investment Banking. I see that your list has ranked cambridge below oxford, can you please elaborate as I am rather confused.
I wouldn't say it's superior to Oxford. One reason for more quantitative theory is that a lot more graduates from Cambridge stay to do further study which helps them. But in the end both will get you interviews and rankings are based on the data available and experience. IB jobs will be easy from first two groups
good point, not many people know about that. However, I would say at undergrad level its not on the same level as the ones in this list. Some schools are very good at postgrad business such as Reading's Business School and people will like their specialised teaching.
Salam, I have an offer at Bristol for Economics but I’m just looking at what’s in clearing in case I don’t get the grades. I’m stuck between Birmingham Economics and Notts Politics and Economics, which one do you think is better for IB and/or to go into further education. Thank you!
walakum salam ! Bristol would be first. From the other two id say theres very little to choose from - both are great and just different cities/unis. but i'd lean towards Birmingham. I'd be surprised to see them in clearing though.
Best video out and nobody else has done it! FOI checks show that the minimum requirements for the top Unis is nonsense! Warwick BSc Econ is 39IB with 6HL maths but it's more like 42 and 7 at HL Maths! They've added TMUA requirements and a new BSc Econ & Management degree with slightly less requirements (on paper!) Is it worth contemplating going down the BSc A+F route instead as it puts far less pressure on and maybe less competitive, but gives real world experience without as much economic theory? My lad is thinking A+F at Warwick (even if it's a little less respected but it's Warwick?) and Econ or Econ+Finance at the semi-targets as he's concerned A+F won't be as well respected at these Unis? I know that was long, but any thoughts?
I like the level of research you've done to make the best choice! You're right for IB especially the actual results are much different to typical offered grades. For your degree I would say that only LSE and Warwick A+F would be seen in the same regards as a lot of Eco degrees from most unis. Thats not to say its equivalent as getting an Eco degree from LSE or Warwick but employers know the level of study is intense at the universities. Maybe Bristol uni as well. So i would go for A+F at Warwick if you feel its a better shot at getting in. Mind you Eco at uni as i mentioned in the video is actually Maths at the top unis so you dont learn economic theory per se but rather econometrics. If you can get a top grade in maths that would help. I will be making an A+F tier list video soon as theres quite a few nuances between the degrees.
Thanks, this is really helpful and the A+F video might be a game changer! Now looking at your other videos and exploring accountancy. It's not all about banking! 😂
As a post grad, I’m accepted for banking and finance at St Andrews, and waiting to hear back from Kings, and UCL for management. Absolutely torn I really like the town of Saint Andrews and I’m not sure if I’m going to get into kings or UCL. Curious to hear your thoughts. I’m a recent US student grad. Not entirely focused on IB but more PE/VC or Real estate. Edit also accepted for management at Bayes Business school.
Which will be a better option at bayes business school ( city university of London). Bsc finance,Accounting and finance, business management or business with finance.
Hi what a great video, what is your opinion on Loughborough University. It has a good reputation for teaching but its not very clear if it holds these events by employers.
My uncle got offers from the University of Leeds, Exeter and Newcastle for a course called "Banking and International Finance". Can you please tell which is the best university for that course (academics, placements)?
Hi there! Fantastic video! Economics with Finance, Economics only or Economics with Management has better job prospects. Asking in relation to the Elite Target and Target universities. Interested in Investment Banking currently, but the more job prospects I have, the better just is incase, thanks!
Glad you liked the vid! Uni matters of course as per the video but eco and finance would be best. Pure eco has a lot of econometrics which is great but there's less emphasis on actual finance concepts. You can of course choose finance modules as options from second year so if you like the uni, straight eco is great
Thanks for the support! The difference becomes more pronounced as you go into your second year. On a straight Eco degree youll do more advanced econometrics, learn econometric software e.g. STATA etc and essentially do more statistics. On Eco + mgmt youll do mgmt modules as well which focus on strategy, organisational change, marketing etc and essentially are qualitative. I prefer the second as i dont like stats but each to their own! Youll still have to do econometrics through your degree but not as much on a combined course.
Hi I have offers from Exeter and Birmingham for Economics which one should I accept for a career in finance since you placed Birmingham over Exeter in the rankings but in the complete university guide Exeter is much higher than Birmingham for economics, Thanks.
Exeter is an incredibly good university (top 10 in the UK and ranked 7th for Economics) and is highly ranked in a number of different categories like student satisfaction and employment opportunities. It also has great sports facilities and a great campus located in a very student-oriented city. Been here for 2 years for Econ and honestly wouldn't choose anywhere else, been the greatest time of my life.
I think if youre focussing on FO it'll be difficult. From RH i would suggest moving to a MO role and pivoting to FO that way if thats what youre interested in
It's mostly for the banking/finance sector as that's where most people end up with economic degrees. For accounting, it's less relevant. Although this ranking is most used only in the first 10 years of your career, after that your work experience will matter.
@@CertifiedTalks would i end up in a good analyst role if i have my skills brushed up straight as i am a fresher and I am gonna complete my undergrad in june and will join wbs in sept. I have 7 months of intern experience as a business dev. I have also heard people talking negative about the course and uni
Hi mate, I really hope you can answer this for my son. He has an offer for UCL but is worried he didn't smash his final exam yesterday in maths, and needs A*. He also has an offer from Bocconi (Milan) unconditonal, and King's which only requires an A* in any subject, which he's confident in. I would like to know whether, if he doesn't get into UCL, whether Kings College or Bocconi would be better ? (For investment banking). Wall St Oasis posts say Bocconi is on the same tier as Kings, but I'm not sure, because it must be so much harder to get London investment banking jobs when you're degree is in Milan.
Boconni is a top uni. People apply for London/NY IB jobs from around the world and so banks know about the reputation of these unis. Bocconi has a top reputation in IB and is a target uni within Europe. I'd put Bocconi slightly above King's but King's business School is slowly improving as well. Just remember it might be easier to network and get interview when youre based in a London uni vs Italy.
If for IB make sure it's in a relevant division. No point doing it in Operations but want to work in IB. But you will make amazing network, learn how to work in a bank and have lot of examples to show in CV. I highly recommend it.
Yep plenty of people from UoM are there but you have to make sure you get some good work experience. You might get your ideal role straight away but that's ok. But Alliance Business School is very good
Oh man, that's great question! Tough question! If your sole focus is IB, id go for Warwick. You'll have enough quantitative aspects in your Warwick degree. Both are very different locations though!
is studying international relations at LSE better than studying economics and ir at st andrews, despite the degree not being as specific . Im not necessarily looking at IB but am interested related to finance or consulting services. I accepted st andrews rather than LSE due to the degree but do doubt my choice
No, you would have to justify more why you studied IR and not a finance degree for undergrad and with competition so fierce at IBs they would rather not care and consider you. St Andrews is a great uni and for your chosen career path it wont hinder you at all. Employers appreciate the more rounded experience you get at St Andrews
Yes but you'll have to do a lot more networking and showcasing what you know about the industry. Importantly youll need to provide a good story why you decided to study Japanese and why you want to work in IB, and how they link.
Hello, could you please guide us, my son got offers from bristol and nottingham for economics. He is confused which one he should pick, which is more targeted by the firms? thanks
Congrats to her! At those unis there's not much difference in terms of end result - she will get great opportunities from them all. Some examples of things to look at is the city (feel free to check my book out). Bristol and bath are very different cities to Notts whilst they're also very different size universities. Bath is slowly improving and these days is often seen as better but Bristol is traditionally a top uni and attracts a lot of private educated students. Nottingham is known to have a more lively student life
Imperial has a BSc for Economics, Finance, and Data Science. Would it get a tier on the list for getting into investment banking? Did you forget it or is it not good enough for the list? Soon I’m applying for an economics summer school too and I’m stuck between Imperial, Durham and Warwick to apply for the next summer so I’m wondering which would look best on my uni application if you’d have any insight on that…
A bit of both. Its a very new course so did slip my mind but also the eco course at imperial is very heavy towards and uses it's strengths of teaching machine learning, coding and data whilst also learning the fundamentals of economics......in other words it's totally different to any other eco course in the uk. I don't think many of the grads will go to IB jobs but rather trading and quant roles. But if you go either imperial, Durham or Warwick you'll have great chance from all getting into IB , no question about it. If you have a good chance at getting into Imperial then go fo it! Be careful though, there's a lot of studying there! Check out my top London unis by value video!
Prestige wise I wouldn't say there's too much difference. Manchester will probably have a much bigger cohort to share application tips etc but for your choice I'd decide on the city more as well since prestige wise they're very similar. Once a very busy and lively city whilst Edinburgh is big but more chilled and different environment.
I wouldn't choose it just because it's Henley's. If you like the course details then it might be a good option for you but I know it's a small subsect of teams within banks that will recognize how good it is. For masters it's much better than bachaelors like I said though.
What would you say is the best university to study economics in Scotland from what you know? Or would you recommend paying to study down south for a better chance of employment?
I'm going to be making a Scotland ranking video if there's demand. But at a high level, Scotland has some amazing unis, majority of them are top within the UK. Id say the traditional ones to get into top jobs is st Andrews/ Edinburgh. These two are better than a lot of the UK ones and if you have offers from there and want to save money then attend those. Then there's a gap and you've got Glasgow/strathyclyde then another gap and you've got Herriot Watts....that's off the top of my head.
@@CertifiedTalksthanks for that. I’ve been looking at Edinburgh’s economics with finance course. Just wondering if you would recommend that or if there are any better options
That's a good enough course if you enjoy the uni and course material. The education in Scotland is more rounded and both Edinburgh and St Andrews course are all top notch
Hi if you see my latest uni ranking video somehow Surrey is a top 15 uni! I personally don’t think it’s that great but I would choose Surrey over Herriot watt.
I have 2 offers so far from Loughborough and University of Birmingham - which of the two would you say has a better reputation for economics? I’m waiting on responses from Warwick, Leeds and Nottingham
Id say Birmingham has traditionally better course and known more. Not everyone will go into the details but if they do Loughborough is becoming just as good, but that’s less known. Warwick is the best from your list which I’m sure you know
@@CertifiedTalks Hi i’ve just received an offer from Warwick (Economics, Politics and International Studies) and Nottingham (Economics). Which course is better in your opinion out of these two, as Warwick is not straight econ?
Congrats man you killed it! To target IBs I'd focus on Warwick. You'll have enough eco there and you'll be able to get an internship easier. There are drawbacks of Warwick vs notts as well, mostly from the location point of view (check out my full uni ranking video). PPE is a great degree.
Id be happy with the order you wrote it in. The main difference between those three places is the location, you'll have to decide what type of city you prefer because they're each very different and can impact how happy you'll be there
Hello the video was helpful. The thing is I got offers from University of Glasgow (for masters in investment banking and finance) and University of Nottingham (for masters in investment and finance). Which one should I go for?
Hi, I have chosen to do econ and finance at Bristol because the course modules looked more interesting to me, does a pure econ degree have a significant higher level of prestige than econ and finance? Thanks
Nah. If you want to work in banking then eco and finance is better as finance actually contains the product and real life things you’ll use. Eco is great because it’s very mathematical with econometrics but really that’s used for further study as opposed to using econometrics in your job. The benefit is you can show you have top maths skills. ….but to summarise it’s the finance part which is helpful for the job
Asalamualikum Would you have any insights on the University of Bristol for studying Economics? I’m particularly interested in understanding its reputation in the field and the job prospects for its graduates. Specifically, I’m curious about the potential to secure a six-figure salary after gaining some later on in my career.
Walakum salaam. Bristol is amazing for Eco, definitely requires a good level of maths though as the course is very quantitative. I think the rankings have pushed bristol very low and i understand why but its still one of the classic top unis people think of in the uk. Has a great reputation of ending up in top places
I got a lot of hate on my other video regarding my opinion of Glasgow lol but i do think for Maths/finance related course its pretty good. A good entry route if you want to work in the IB roles based in Scotland especially.
Hmmm I was planning on making one for undergrad as for masters it's more just Management. But I can look into that as well (will be doing a business school list as well)
@@CertifiedTalksthank you that would be great. I've been looking into UK universities domestic and overall ranking and most of them have different universities so I'm confused on what sources to look into.
Im going to make a video on this but there's only a few a+f degrees on par with economics degrees. Most won't be seen on the same level especially against top unis
There really isn't a big enough gap to give you an advantage between the two. Both are well respected and great unis. They have the tradition, teaching and successful alumni to give you solid options. Congrats as well on getting both offers, very competitive universities!
Do you know if it’s bad to apply to the same uni twice. I’m deciding between applying to UCL econ and Durham econ… or UCL Econ and UCL Econ and Geography….? Also what’s more impressive Durham econ or UCL Econ and geography?
No it's not a positive or a negative if you do. Many people do that. Might be difficult to explain your degree choice if you have various degrees to talk about though as a straight Econ professor might be thinking why are you talking about geography if you're applying straight eco. But they all know students do that as well. I wouldn't say there's any one more prestigious, both degrees are similar quality and you'll be learning different things.
@@CertifiedTalks I want to be able to get into the finance jobs like banking. I’m not opposed to becoming an a certified public accountant but It’s not my main purpose.
@@CertifiedTalks I come from an asian country as well. In my country, there isn’t really a finance course. Do you think Economics or Accounting could be a great substitute for finance?
Hi there, I am applying to uni at the moment and need to decide my 5 ucas options. I am certain on Oxford and Bristol, but for my remaining three I cant decide between Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, St Andrews Edinburg and Durham? Can you offer any advice? Love your videos! Predicted A*A*A*A (A in Further Maths) for reference
thanks for the kind words! So theyre all great unis but very different as well. I cover this in my book you can get through description box but i'll also summarise some key points here. I would say Durham/St Andrews and Notts would make my other 3. The first two are much quieter places vs Notts which is a very lively city, I recieved an offer from durham and if i recall i believe it was this concept of city life which maybe didnt make me choose it. Education wise i think they're on par with each other as well as employee reputation. Alumni reputation is much more diverse in Notts which can help you pivot careers if you ever wanted to. Also St Andrews location definitely makes it harder to come to London to interview though!
thanks so much for your reply! really really helpful. may i ask where you went in the end? what’s your opinion on manchester, i am visiting on saturday. i think i will most likely end up having notts st andrews manchester as my other choices, but i am also inclined to chose Edinburgh over st andrews because of location and prettier and more lovely city. thanks again!
@@ThePotatoBaron No no I dont mean in terms of how hard is it to get in, I already submitted my application :D, I mean like for recruiters is it a competitive for investment banking/quant side?
@@CertifiedTalks thank you my brother ! I wanted to ask , do you think it’s possible that I can still get into IB with my work experience so far and I am only a first year still
Hey so I have 3 out of my 5 choices which are kings, ucl and Warwick but for my final two I’m stuck between Leeds, Nottingham, Bristol, Sheffield and Lancaster and bath. Please advise me on which ones you recommend for investment banking
Hi , great video . Ive got two offers from Notts and Birmingham for Econ , however I'm currently not sure which one I should go to as Im unsure I achieved an A* in maths . Birmingham guarantees me a place if I miss the grade whereas Notts does not . Is it worth the risk making notts my firm and potentially not going to Uni in comparison to a guaranteed place at Birmingham , to most likely pursue Investment Banking . And how big of a gap is there between the two would you say in regards to the university being targeted by firms ? Thanks .
i’m in ur exact same position. i deffo didnt get an A* in maths but i still firmed notts. On the ucas website, it says that 77% of ppl who got aaa got into notts, and 36% who got aab got in, despite the initial offer being a*aa, so i think they’re somewhat lenient if u just miss ur offer.
@@melvinmugambe5597 I spoke to a few people who go to notts who got AAA including maths , they are all got put on the industrial economics course as they didn't get an A* in maths
I didn’t take A level maths but I am doing a Politics with economics course at university of Bath. Because this course is obviously weighted towards politics rather than economics does this mean my chances of IB are very very very slim ? Thanks
Hello sir, I am an interantional student and I wish to go into finance in hk/singapore/china. I am stuck choosing between undergraduate economic major between bath, nottingham, kings, bristol and durham for my remaining 3 uni choices. What are your suggestions considering their prestige upon those asian cities. It would be greatly helpful and i would like to thank you very much!
Those are all going to give you great prospects. I would say intl rep is bigger for Durham/notts/bristol and kings. Bath is amazing and just as good but if im honest im unsure right now on how east asia see the uni.
Would you say an alternative degree from LSE (instead of economics) still be as competitive for Investment Banking? For example a Bsc Accounting and Finance or Bsc Management from LSE instead of Bsc Economics from LSE
No, Economics at LSE is one of the hardest courses to get into in the UK and employees know that. But LSE overall is a respected institution and theres a reason why its in the elite category. Yes the degree in A+F etc from LSE will make you stand out but compared to Eco grads at at other top unis it'll be lower in priority....however if you feel you have a good chance at getting into those degrees like mgmt and A+F at LSE i would say go for it as just by attending LSE you give yourself a massive headstart
Both are top unis. At that level theres not much separating where you will end up post uni - it comes down to the university/city/lifestyle you enjoy. Both are very different in each of those regards. I prefer UCL just because id want to be London based, based in a vibrant city and ease of interviews and networking events.
I am currently studying at Uni of Leicester. This is my first year as a mature student. What would you recommend regarding my higher age compared to my peers ? What kind of skills should I acquire to make a difference in investment banking, finance, portfolio management ? Does uni mean all that it leaves no chance for non russell or low tier unis ?
You should emphasize during interviews your experiences. You have a massive advantage of knowing how to talk, word emails, bringing people together etc communication is massive but standard age grads lack it due to experience.
I want to pursue investment banking as a career and will be going for MSc Finance, I have options between UCL and Warwick, which one should I opt for? Thanks
Theres no difference at that level. Between those two id take a look at the stuff outside of he course since theyre equally good calibre...look at the city, the ease of travel for interviews etc
I got an offer (masters) from Bristol And Bath, Durham but I chose the University of Bath last because Bath offers more interesting courses to me Do they have a big gap in finance, and output?
Nah Bath is on the way up! Bristol is great uni but it's basing a lot on its reputation. Have a look at my video on the top non Russel group unis to see what I think of Bath. Good luck on your course!
No not in terms of outputs. Id say Nottingham might be slightly better but not enough to make you change your mind. Both are big uni cities as well so very good for students.
Tks for the amazing content! I have offers for Msc Business analysis and strategy from Uni of Manchester and Uni of Southampton. As an intl student, I want to work in consulting but in asia after the degree. What would you suggest in this case? Looking forward to your business school ranking!
Thanks for the support! Both are great unis - Southampton excels in its STEM subjects however id lean more towards Manchester. Its more of a well rounded uni and in my opinion has the better international ranking.
hello sir, I'm stumped between studying economics, accounting and finance degrees. I wanna double major but i dont know what to pick between the three. If you can pick only one, what would you pick.pls help. thanks
Probably pick economics. You can always choose other modules as part of your options. Accounting id say only do it if you want to be an accountant but you can do accounting with any degree in UK. So it's good not to restrict yourself with that degree
Hi, i got an offer from Lincoln university for Msc Project Management, i just want to know if there are opportunities in UK in terms of careers and if lincoln is a good school too. Am an intenational student ,,
Hello, how are you? I have some questions about full scholarship University of Oxford. Now I am preparing for CFA level 1 exam. When I passed level 1 and get the scholarship. Can I do internship in top banks UK. Does university help me to get internships when i have level 1 or when I finish Master's degree.
Id say the order you wrote it on. Eco as mentioned isnt part of Bayes business school and Henly business school (Reading) is better for postgrad and not undergrad.
@@mufasathebigcat Yep should be fine, they know students at these unis are capable of learning under intense pressure. This is the key quality they look for
I was actually thinking about studying that at LSE 😅 it’s a good course! The knowledge won’t be super helpful in IB and so recruiters won’t see it and be attracted because if the degree but you will have a big advantage that you’re at LSE. Use the alumni, use the IB events held at the university and involve yourself with the people looking to get into IB as well. You’ll have a strong chance because those three points are massive levers in LSE even with a political degree

Hi great video, i got offers from Edinburgh to study maths and economics and another offer to study just economics at Bristol. in ur opinion which should I go for.
Tricky choice because both are amazing. I feel the course at Bristol will be more quantitative so if you like that then choose Bristol. Edinburgh will give you a more well rounded qualification, do you have preference in city? Congrats on the offers as well!
@@CertifiedTalks thank you, I have no preference on city but I am considering the prospects for investment banking after uni and trying to decide on the best option for that reason.
Hey bro, which is better... econ and management course at Durham or Bristol? Does Bristol have better employment opportunities being closer to London or is Durham better. Interested in going into either ib or financial consulting.
Both id say are equally great unis for those job opportunities, Durham is known less for its Eco vs Bristol but not by a lot. The cities are slightly different but I can vouch the course at Bristol is very rigourus plus the networking and student led resources are very helpful....I do agree the 2.5hrs journey from Bristol to London is easier than Durham to London. I got offers from both tbh and wouldve been happy with either.
Nah mate never. The majority of graduate jobs in uk are very structural in terms of recruitment, mostly online applications. HR will see cvs more and focus on target unis and for Warwick vs City more people from banks will go to Warwick to give presentations , much much more….showing you how much they prefer those grads to City grads.

Thanks for the kind words! I would say Manchester. Erasmus is a great uni and is known within IB but Manchester has several advantages. It's a bigger uni giving more opportunities during your studies and provide a better experience. But it's known a little more as well. I wouldn't say it's superior to Oxford. One reason for more quantitative theory is that a lot more graduates from Cambridge stay to do further study which helps them. Does doing an economics and finance course as opposed to economics differ my job prospects at Bristol, (Banking or finance).
Nah no difference. From what I remember both contain almost identical modules
Is BSc Economics and Economic History at LSE still very respected?
Yep it's probably more enjoyable and will show a good mix of skill set since you'll probably have to do essays as well
As a post grad, I’m accepted for banking and finance at St Andrews, and waiting to hear back from Kings, and UCL for management.
ST Andrews/UCL would be the top choices. UCL higher. But PE/VC is more about networking so from those unis it doesnt matter as much.
@@CertifiedTalksthanks man I’m going to St Andrews! I got denied from UCL unfortunately

Hi, Economics at Bath or economics at KCL, which one should i go to if i want a better chance to get into IB?
Bath for the degree , KCL for the vibes
@CertifiedTalks what about Bath Vs Bristol
Probably Bristol but Bath is held in good regards as well. Bristol will give you a better uni experience

What’s better geography with econ at lse or land economy at Cambridge?
Land economy at Cambridge. You’ll get more doors opened from it
Which will be a better option at bayes business school ( city university of London). Bsc finance,Accounting and finance, business management or business with finance.
A+F. You'll be able to take some business modules as well which will be useful but on the whole A+F will give you better practical knowledge for work.
Hi what a great video, what is your opinion on Loughborough University. It has a good reputation for teaching but its not very clear if it holds these events by employers.
Yeh that's a valid point. I'm unsure if there's many campus visits from banks tbh. But that shouldn't put you off
My uncle got offers from the University of Leeds, Exeter and Newcastle for a course called "Banking and International Finance".
Can you please tell which is the best university for that course (academics, placements)?
I would say it's the order you wrote it in. There's a small gap between Exeter/Leeds and Newcastle
So, would you give the highest rating for Leeds? @@CertifiedTalks
is finance at Durham better than economics at Leeds for ib?
Id probably say so but is the finance course part of the business school like accounting?
You can of course choose finance modules as options from second year so if you like the uni, straight eco is great
Hello, nice video!
Could you please tell me what is the difference between Economics and Economics and Management degrees?
Thanks for the support! The difference becomes more pronounced as you go into your second year. On a straight Eco degree youll do more advanced econometrics, learn econometric software e.g. STATA etc and essentially do more statistics. On Eco + mgmt youll do mgmt modules as well which focus on strategy, organisational change, marketing etc and essentially are qualitative. I prefer the second as i dont like stats but each to their own! Youll still have to do econometrics through your degree but not as much on a combined course.
@@CertifiedTalks Thank you so much! Yes, Economics and Management course sounds much more interesting to me too!☺️
Hi I have offers from Exeter and Birmingham for Economics which one should I accept for a career in finance since you placed Birmingham over Exeter in the rankings but in the complete university guide Exeter is much higher than Birmingham for economics, Thanks.
How difficult is it to get into IB if you did Bsc economics at Royal Holloway
I think if youre focussing on FO it'll be difficult. From RH i would suggest moving to a MO role and pivoting to FO that way if thats what youre interested in
Are there big differences between the Semi-target As? Eg is there a big difference between Bristol, Nottingham, and Durham?
The difference is small and separated by small things such as how many people have entered IB from there and some of the teaching quality
Is this tier list from purely an investment banking perspective? Or is it applicable to other career prospects in the economics/finance sector?
It's mostly for the banking/finance sector as that's where most people end up with economic degrees. For accounting, it's less relevant.
Although this ranking is most used only in the first 10 years of your career, after that your work experience will matter.
I got offers from QMUL, City, Royal Holloway, and Brunel, Which one do you prefer for econ!
Qmul
can i get into IB with masters in business analytics from warwick?

@@CertifiedTalksoh man thank you so much for replying. I’m really grateful. This really helps on such a hard decision.
do you recommend applying to a course with industrial experience?
If for IB make sure it's in a relevant division. No point doing it in Operations but want to work in IB. But you will make amazing network, learn how to work in a bank and have lot of examples to show in CV. I highly recommend it.
@@CertifiedTalks thanks for your help
Hey there, I got an admit from University of Manchester for Msc in Management, will it be possible for me to land a job in investment banking?
Yep plenty of people from UoM are there but you have to make sure you get some good work experience. You might get your ideal role straight away but that's ok. But Alliance Business School is very good
Is economics a better degree for investment banking than finance or accounting?
On the whole yes. Eco then finance then accounting but also I would pick accounting at lse then eco at a uni ranked 20th
Would you recommend BSc Economics,Psychology, and Philosophy from Warwick or BSc Economics from Nottingham for IB?
Could I get into investment banking with a degree in Japanese through the university of Oxford? Or is it solely economics?
Yes but you'll have to do a lot more networking and showcasing what you know about the industry. Importantly youll need to provide a good story why you decided to study Japanese and why you want to work in IB, and how they link.
Ok makes sense. Cheers mate👍

My daughter has offer in Bristol,Bath and Nottingham for Economics, which one do you recommend for IB
Nottingham is known to have a more lively student life
Hey brother can u plz make a video on ACCA demand & salary in kuwait
Sure bro, it will take some time to do the research
Which is better for international student for msc finance durham or southampton
Durham. Both are good but Durham slightly ahead
Hi, I have offers for econ and finance from Edinburgh and manchester, which one would you recommend and which one is more prestigious?
Prestige wise I wouldn't say there's too much difference. Manchester will probably have a much bigger cohort to share application tips etc but for your choice I'd decide on the city more as well since prestige wise they're very similar.
Once a very busy and lively city whilst Edinburgh is big but more chilled and different environment.
Hey, Should I choose - Henley business school for MSc finance or something like Exeter,Birmingham, Queenmary ?
The education in Scotland is more rounded and both Edinburgh and St Andrews course are all top notch
hey sir I got offers from the University of Surrey and Heriot-Watt University for Master in finance which should I choose

Exeter, Nottingham, or Lancaster?
Id be happy with the order you wrote it in. The main difference between those three places is the location, you'll have to decide what type of city you prefer because they're each very different and can impact how happy you'll be there
Hello the video was helpful. The thing is I got offers from University of Glasgow (for masters in investment banking and finance) and University of Nottingham (for masters in investment and finance). Which one should I go for?
id pick Nottingham . Glasgow is admittedly a good uni as well but from experience Notts is just a little bit a head in reputation in IBs
What about a Medical degree from cambridge as well as a BA in econ from cambridge
Mate what kind of question is this?
Hey there, I have got offers for Econ and Finance undergraduate from Sheffield, York and Southampton, which one is the most prestigious one?
Southampton/York/Sheffield
How about Glasgow?
I got a lot of hate on my other video regarding my opinion of Glasgow lol but i do think for Maths/finance related course its pretty good. A good entry route if you want to work in the IB roles based in Scotland especially.

I wouldn't say there's any one more prestigious, both degrees are similar quality and you'll be learning different things.

thanks for the kind words!
This was a really insightful video! How competitive do you think an Mathematics + Economics degree at a uni like LSE or UCL would be?
Super competitive, LSE would care more about GCSEs than UCL as well
Hyper competitive. You should get as close to straight A's & A* at both GCSE (8-9) and at A-Level as possible.
@@ThePotatoBaron No no I dont mean in terms of how hard is it to get in, I already submitted my application :D, I mean like for recruiters is it a competitive for investment banking/quant side?

@@CertifiedTalks if you had to choose between Kings college London ms in finance and economics, and LSE Ms IPE, what would you choose? Given that I can take some additional economic courses in LSE from other departments. I’m not sure that I wanna work in IB in the future, but in economics/finance 100%
Where's uni of leeds
Probably should've put it in the penultimate category. Surprised I missed it
Hey bro, which is better... econ and management course at Durham or Bristol? Does Bristol have better employment opportunities being closer to London or is Durham better. Interested in going into either ib or financial consulting.
Both id say are equally great unis for those job opportunities, Durham is known less for its Eco vs Bristol but not by a lot. The cities are slightly different but I can vouch the course at Bristol is very rigourus plus the networking and student led resources are very helpful....I do agree the 2.5hrs journey from Bristol to London is easier than Durham to London. I got offers from both tbh and wouldve been happy with either.
@@CertifiedTalks Hey, just wanted to send thanks as this channel has been a big help. Recently got an offer for Econ and management at Warwick!
Congrats on your offer , really happy for you!
Isn’t it better to study at City University than compared to Warwick, as it is located in London and connections are more ?
Nah mate never. The majority of graduate jobs in uk are very structural in terms of recruitment, mostly online applications. HR will see cvs more and focus on target unis and for Warwick vs City more people from banks will go to Warwick to give presentations , much much more….showing you how much they prefer those grads to City grads.
Where is ICL?
Don’t have a pure econ degree
They have a econ and data sci cours
Good reply. I’m currently looking into this and how it can assist in IB
@@CertifiedTalks I went to icls open day
They spoke a lot abt how they built this degree with finance companies in mind
It’s a full eco degree taught using data science almost
So u learn an Econ concept then use a programming language to analyse data from this economical data
@GwendaGregory-rw6uk very interesting. I thought it’d be something like that and similar to their MBAs they offer which sounds the same.
Hey I love your videos! I got offers from University of Manchester BAEcons and Politics and Erasmus University Rotterdam Economics and Business Economics. I want to pursue my career in consulting or banking probably, also as an international I have a thought for working in the US. Which degree suits me for my concerns do you think?
Thanks for the kind words! I would say Manchester. Erasmus is a great uni and is known within IB but Manchester has several advantages. It's a bigger uni giving more opportunities during your studies and provide a better experience. But it's known a little more as well. Not going to lie , both aren't going to give a brand name if you're wanting to work in the US (they hardly know the European unis!) but you can start off in London and transfer to NY
@@CertifiedTalks Thank you so much! Also I aim for doing an MBA at one of the top 5 schools after I graduate. Do you think an Erasmus Uni degree can get me on one of those. If it’s no, what do you recommend? Thank you already again 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
