I legit just finished the episode. This was freaking amazing! The acting, the environment, the characters. Matt Reeves knows how to make Gotham feel like it should be. Victor is an interesting side character, and Collin just outdoes himself. And that ending wow, that was crazy. Can't wait to see more! Dang, I love this Batman universe!
@MindOfJigsaw1 Dude fr man, it was so cool. Love seeing so many new characters. There's so much presence in Sophia and it was cool seeing Sal after hearing about him in the movie
It's literally A Bronx Tale as well between Oswald Cobblepot and his ward Victor. You have someone looking up to a person by wanting to emulate him, be respected, revered.
Ep. 1 was absolute perfection. The way they set up Oz's insecurities could not have been handled better. Oz was so smart and after this episode I could see him being the main antagonist in a Batman film.
Not gonna lie that even when oz was taken being tortured and then the car shows up with the brother dead and his finger cut off was honestly really good
I jokingly predicted the Oz was gonna kill Alberto. When he actually did I was like "bro, I was just kidding". Alberto was the kind of character you'd expect to get screen time; so it was pleasant surprise.
The subtle plum, purple color is a nice homage to The Penguin's look from the Batman 66 series portrayed by Burgess Meredith whose costume is part purple.
Fun Fact: The mobster Penguin mentions (Rex Calabrese) is Catwoman's father in the comics and it nicknamed "The Lion" because his name is Leo Leone and for his brutal method of killing. He has fang dentures he can use to rip through flesh. (The relation to Catwoman may have changed since comics are just like that).
The Penguin is the BEST Pilot I've seen all year. Phenomenal hour of television. The story is fantastic and intense. Matt reeves is a master of his craft. Oh and Collin Farrel and Criston Milioti EMMY Frontrunners‼️ Bravo HBO 👏 🔥
Man saying goodbye to this Batman universe because of the DCU is gonna be so freakin difficult. It's just perfect. This Gotham and these characters are freakin perfect and the best possible adaptation of these characters into live action. Matt Reeves has the STUFF man.
The First Car Scene with Vic and Oz and the scene with Sofia and Oz at dinner were my favourite because they were so tense and i was literally sitting there so immersed
The QR code leads to ‘Gothams True Face” aka The Riddler site rataalada used for The Batman, now updated to include a few extras for this episode (I assume it’ll be regularly updated for each episode) the main one being a link to the Gotham Gazette article “Crime Pays Well” that we see briefly in the episode - this allows you to read the full article.
They nailed the feel of Gotham, it reminds me of the Arkham games. The city feels like it’s underneath a bunch of colossal bridges, and it’s always dark, wet, and foggy, so good
The penguin is better watched both I liked Agatha thought it wasn’t bad but the penguin I actually loved, Disney needs to get rid of the 25min episodes HBO spend and hour plus and really shows you the best
@@ProtagonisTeneTNah Agatha is dope. And I wasn’t looking forward to it at all. I’m an MCU hater post endgame like all the other shitty fans of the MCU too.
No damn way they're making The Penguin up there with Scarecrow as my favorite Batman villains. For the longest time, it was just Scarecrow and then everyone else. Now, it seems to be becoming Scarecrow AND Penguin, and then everyone else.
I want it to continue, I want Matt Reeves to make more of this, please it can't end because of the new DCU movies, he should have a opportunity to do more of shows and movies like that.
What the hell are you talking about? Just because James Gunn is a CEO doesn't mean he won't let Reeves do whatever he wants with his universe. In fact, there has been confirmed another spin-off in development; we don't know of what character, but there is more coming. And also, Matt Reeves didn't create the show, didn't direct, or wrote any episodes; he was a producer, and Lauren LeFranc is the showrunner.
This was so good. We already know Colin Farrell is a great actor, but this was amazing! I was so enthralled the whole time and completely understand the glee on Coy's face the entire time. The rest of the cast too, the atmosphere, the delivery, my God. This is the kind of work that's great for scene study and analysis. Bravo! Bravo!👏👏
That was phenomenal! How was that so good!? I don't know what will happen with the rest of the season but that was a fantastic first episode. That made me genuinely happy. I love this world.
I was stunned by this first episode, and now I can't stop getting impatient as each week the start of a great war between families in Gotham, becomes more and more sinister!!! And doing what the Penguin, has been in the comics and in their adaptations in video games or series. He is someone who should not be underestimated. And they show a dark and brazen side to him.💀 Colin Farrell really does an amazing job in his performance.👏 And I really liked Victor, he's great!
I loved this!!! One episode in, and I'm already so sucked in. The dialog, the atmosphere, and the tension in every single conversation are just "Chef's Kiss" I can't wait til episode two!!! Cristin Milioti is deliciously intimidating!!! I'd almost rather go up against Oz than her!!! Fantastic episode!!! 👏👏👏
Going into this, my main worry was that it will just be gothom tv show over again seeing oswald becoming the penguin crime boss and his relationship with sofia. And while there are elements of that, it has a diffrent spin on it which makes it more worth while.
I can't think of the last season premiere of a show that had my eyes glued to the screen from beginning to end, no hyperbole. First off excellent writing by Lauren LeFranc with vivid dialogue and intense scenes. Secondly, the acting is masterclass especially from Colin Farrell who completely disappears once again as Oz but in a much significant role and Cristan Miloti is a pure unapologetic scene stealer. Finally, the atmosphere is so connected to the Matt Reeves Batmanverse that you can watch the 2022 film and this series right after, it just flows perfectly. If I had 3 arms I'd give it 3 Thumbs Way Up, and can't wait for more.
Here first, fantastic opening episode and opener in general! Can definitely see that while keeping to the world and feel of the Batman movie, it’s definitely still going for its own tone which I’m all for!
Wasn't sure I would be watching this show, but seeing a cast member from HIMYM with a major role, and it's the mother of all people? I'm in. She's so good at her job.
So much potential for this show. I can see it getting a couple seasons. Sets a new standard for the Peguin , Peguin should be a Italian mob boss in any adaptation of a batman universe going foward
They are 2 different genres. It's kinda like saying imagine wanting to watch wizard of Oz or maleficent over watching Scarface. 2 different audiences it appeals to.
A few days back, the batman arkham games went on a discount sale on steam and that was a perfect steal...and now the penguin episode 1 drops, god such impecable timing!
I am so so so happy we have this show. I loved the tone and world of The Batman and this show matched it to a T. Even a little darker but that makes perfect sense when it’s all about the underworld of Gotham. I’m really at a loss for words, it was so damn good. I am PUMPED
I also thought Coy was saying this was his favourite comicbook adaptation ever, he didn't qualify his statement with "this year". Not to shit on Coy but just to support Greg in not being gaslit lol
I really enjoyed the batman, but I had some problems with the pacing and mistery, I wonder if this will be a issue here? Unlike Coy I didn't have high expectations, but I liked the trailer, so i hope it surprises me🙂↕️
Anyone else think its weird we have 10 whole days to go before the next episode. That really sucks and now I hate life again... See earlier on during this episode i said "life is good again" in my head while i was watching. So it's absolutely Coys fault for not knowing that I'd said that one specific thing earlier in my head and now he's lost. 🤷🏻♂️
I’m really only watching the Reactions for the scenes with Sophia. If there was any character I’d love to see with even a minor super power, it would be her.

"they don't even know what they have because they've always had it, never hungry... born full" that was the best line in the first episode
That was a hard line fr fr
Ep. 1 was absolute perfection. The way they set up Oz's insecurities could not have been handled better. Oz was so smart and after this episode I could see him being the main antagonist in a Batman film.

It's HBO, we got penis
Yeah well The Batman was PG-13 and this is TV-MA so I would think so
While Batman was fighting Riddler, there was a whole f-ing gangwar going on 🤣
It really does show how Fucked Gotham is in this timeline
Just give Cristin Milioti her Emmy now. My GOD
Yeah shes scary
😂 Colin plus Tony Suprano plus the penguin equals Emmy. So great my favorite since hotd. Looking forward to every episode. Yes yes yes!!!
GIVE COLIN FARRELL AN OSCAR, PLEASE!
ITS PEAK!!!!!!!!! WE ARE SO BACK!!!!!!!!
I'm insanely impressed with how this show has started! I can't wait for the rest of season 1
Definitely started strong

This ain't going anywhere bro
Even the Batman had a F bomb when Peter savage said to Batman: happy fucking Halloween
Yeah, I love how manipulative Penguin was in this episode 😊
Oh yea, that’s how you start off a show. This about to be a banger season!! 🔥🔥🔥
I really thought Alberto Falcone would've have lasted at least like 4 episodes.

This episode was great! So excited to see the rest of the show! 👍

James Gunn and Reeves are working together for the DCU and the Batverse dude

Literally just finished it now. Omg it’s soo good to be back in Matt Reeves’ Gotham. That ep was amazing. Loved it. Colin killed it
This is honestly my new favorite show right now my only complaint was I didn’t have more to watch

wow just great dialogue what a novel idea

so looking forward to more
I googled it and there's an actual "Robbinsville" in New Jersey.

This episode was just so beautiful. This is exactly what I wanted and hoped for!! Can't wait for the next one!!!
I'm really excited for this series
I love how that one shot of the crowbar resembles his penguin cane/umbrella from the camera angle! It's about 20:15 into the episode.
Both Oz and Sofia characters are great!
Absolutely loved the first episode. Colin Farrell is great as usual but Cristin Milioti as Sophia Falcone was terrifying
Wasn't sure I would be watching this show, but seeing a cast member from HIMYM with a major role, and it's the mother of all people? I'm in. She's so good at her job.
this episode should go down as one of the best first episodes of any show. I can see why coy was so hype for this
im wearing a penguin suit while watching this (not the chracter an actual penguin🐧)
THIS WAS SO GOOD, IM 1000% hooked
I AM SO READY FOR THE NEXT EPISODES!!!!!!
Sofi calling herself the Hangman is a great Easter egg for Dark Victory.
I’ve always wanted a serious, dark, gritty, realistic crime thriller series set in Gotham and this show finally gave it to me!
DC studios won tv this week imo 🤷♂️the penguin so far was amazing
I think the cops and overall the city is more busy dealing with the flood at the moment maybe later on it will be a problem
