Penny and Leonard may be the couple in the show. But it's the interactions between Penny and Sheldon that made it really worth watching.
Chuck lorre originally wanted Sheldon and Penny to end up as roommates instead since they are polar opposites. THe others would be friends/neighbors. i.e. Leonard in pennys apartment across the hall. Cbs didnt trust that a Nerd show with a female lead would do well if they cast the "Sciencey" character as an opposite to a woman. They didnt like the message it sent, which was weird since amy and bernadette were always going to be the other females that were accomplished scientists anyways. The "failed actress adopted by nerds" moments really do carry the show still. Alot of this show inspired the setting of two broke girls as well. COmplete opposites set as roomates. Super rich classy spoiled girl meets, tough messy city chick with self destructive tendencies. As far as im aware, some of the commentary tracks explained that some of the only original bits from the rough draft to make the cut were times when penny and sheldon "solve string theory", penny using sheldons knocking technique, and penny explaining why sheldon loves his chair spot so much as per the roommate agreement she signed because she didnt read it, the same way she doesnt read any acting contracts properly and is then bound by it. Kinda interesting.
They're the only reason why this show became so successful. They themselves built the momentum in the first few seasons when BBT was the best. From Season 5 onwards, it was just a gravy train.

we all have our moments, believe me, I feel uncomfortable in almost any situation involving people, even if I don't have to interact with anyone directly, even being in the same house than my family members can be uncomfortable, however, sometimes it just sorts of happens that you have these moments in which you seem way more confident than you really are or you feel, in those moments flirting, joking and/or quick responses are easier to perform... also, consider that Sheldon as already know them to a certain extent, especially penny who he has known for the longest among the girls, he can by this point deal with her better.

No Sheldon was never Socially awkward. He hated gatherings. But that never stopped him from voicing his opinions in front of people, never nervous in front of others. You can call him an introvert. On the other hand Leonard was Socially awkward.
They should make another season, just to include the Corona pandemic and how Sheldon adjusts to that.

Real people? Most people would try to find out what's in the letter because most people like gossip and finding out other people's secrets.

I wonder if Kaley Cuoco eats one meal a day. My pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. [Mary] Kathryn Hammock, had one meal a day [usually a huge salad] around lunch time, between brain surgeries. Dr. Hammock was my neurosurgeon during my time at Children's from 1977 to 1985. I’d give Sheldon my respect for this. It wasn’t in his place to say what was in the letter and the information should only be given to Howard. No one else, not even his wife has the right to know.

Sheldon never learns to read Penny. It's clear that Penny is completely lost the moment he mentions California law but he just accepts that she understands the concepts.

Penny and Sheldon make the most interesting “couple” them being total opposites. Sheldon is a pure genius but with almost no social skills. Penny is not an academic but compared to Sheldon she is a “professor” of social skills. They meet in annoyance of each other but understanding and acknowledgement that the other person has skills that they do not themselves possess.
At least, Howard got a closure.

Jake Johnston and keeping secrets as he points out in several episodes.
Specifically, he's bad at being dishonest. When Penny or Leonard tell him about their misgivings in concerns to their dating life and then tell him not to say anything, Sheldon has difficulty keeping it to himself because he is aware that the information is proprietary to the other person - they have a right to know, yet he's not supposed to say.
In this case, Sheldon has information that relates only to Howard, who - A) knows Sheldon has the information; and B) has made it clear he does not want to know the information.
Because of this, there is no dishonesty in keeping the information from the letter to himself, Howard is aware of the situation and does not want to know, and nobody else has any right or need to know what that information is.
