    Chad great job teaching Aiden . .... when I install an engine without transmission. .... Put a bellhousing bolt one each side , then slide a 2x4 behind the engine , under the bolts... will hold up the back of the engine ...... Also take off the distributor cap , to make room and avoid cracking the cap....

    • @rickhettwer854
      @rickhettwer854 3 роки тому +2

      Your idea with the bellhousing bolts are good if the car is already sitting on the ground. In this case however the car may need to be raised or lowered to do some finish work. On a Chevy, the Dist. cap needs to be in place to get correct clearance, Etc. for firewall mods in case it's needed.

    • @randyhontz60
      @randyhontz60 3 роки тому

      @@rickhettwer854 I take the cap off every time I install an engine , so it doesn't get bumped and cracked. if you need to measure clearance or anything just re install cap . I just take it off during installation .

    • @rickhettwer854

      @@randyhontz60 Yes of course, I would also remove the cap if i new i were to use it for other than a mock-up.

    I'm so glad that the engine in now decided upon. It looks like that you have all kinds of room for that engine and working on it. As for a set of hammer and dollies I believe that it's princes auto up there in Canada or there are some half way decent kits on Ebay that are really reasonable to purchase. It's really looking good with all the latest things that you have done. How far are you going on this build before that you go onto something else or will you get it running and go through the entire build ? Either way is good. The lessons and knowledge that Ayden has gotten couldn't be bought in schools because they wouldn't bust out of the NORMAL because they've lost their creativness.

    Put in a 45° piece above the lower firewall to the upper firewall. This way you will be able to see all the work you did and you might have to remove the upper fire if your motor is removed which you said will be put in.
    Those trips should be good too. I wish I had the set up I had in the 70s on my 327 they worked great! Now I am looking for another 6 pack for my 62- 283 with matching numbers on the heads but they want alot of money for that set now.

    There is another truck that's on UA-cam that was built similar, but not really because Hiltz has a Mercury the other one on UA-cam has a truck hand built truck bed.
    Any how glad to see a youngster on the Hiltz team 💪

      Chad, The way an engine should fit is so that the drive shaft universals [hooks couplings] is 1. Line up, 2. both must work at the same angle ! This is very important; If the couplings do not drive at the same angle, the proppeller shaft will vibrate.!!!!! If you can not tip the engine to attain the couplings to work at the same angle, then the rear axle angle has to be remounted to get the couplings to be at the same angle. One shoulg not try to fit the engine level. If you try to level the engine before the weight of the engine is on the mountings, the engine will not be level when it rests on the chasis. pardon my inglish please.

    So when you open the hood you could be looking into a beautiful deep carpeted trunk with a built in cooler for at least thirty pounds of ice and a couple of 32 packs of beer. The ice drips onto the engine for added cooling. Or you could make the first ever “Rumble Hood” Seats with the cooler for an arm rest.

    Those vice grips you got clamped on that cherry picker isn't safe ... especially when there pointing up..the reason I say is because I had a motor jacked up in the air like you did fixed to install in a 68 mustang the transmission was still in car an I reached down to make sure torque converter was pushed all the way in an just as I was raising back up I bumped the motor an the gravity let them vice grips fall back around an the motor fell..I meen slammed fast an hard in side of the car..I was with in seconds an inches of having my head an upper part of my body smashed..probably would have killed me an I was working by myself nobody wouldn't have even new ...it scared me so much that I left it like it was turned out the light in the shop locked door an went home freaking out an didn't go back to work on it for about a week ...an I made sure I took them vice grips off the cherry picker never clamp a pair back on them...an took a good friend with me when I worked on it.....just saying from experience with them dam vice grip on that release screw on that cherry picker brought back a night mare for me.....Truck looks cool an bad ass👍👍👍👍👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️

    Chad, That trip-deuce setup is a little more than that 305 can handle especially if it has a stock cam and internals. If I'm not wrong the 305 was made to lower the corporate fuel mileage average, it was never meant to be a powerhouse engine. If you have a 327 or 350 they would benefit from the trip-deuce setup. You need to maybe to run that magnet across some sandpaper in case it has a clear sealant that's blocking contact with the metal.

    This is a double insult to both Ford and Mercury fans. You are a Closet Ford Man. I've been with you since day one, and I am sorry to say this is a real downer for me. That line about parts being available is a cop-out, if you can not find parts for a ford 302 or 351 w you are not looking, and having bought a 351w and not use it is unforgivable. Bastardization of any brand-name car should not be encouraged by acceptance. This is going to be a tough decision because I love your work and I brag to my American friends that you are a Canadian.
