- Hello everyone! Back at it again with another cognitive science video, this time focusing on the top 10 reasons why I think you should major in cognitive science :) I cover why it's a great major in terms of what classes do you take as a cognitive science major, what your schedule will look like, what concepts you learn, and how it applies to everyday life!
like I said in the beginning of the video, I definitely don't intend my channel to be cognitive science specific hehe. but I do want to make intentional and useful content every week, and you guys seemed to find my cognitive science videos helpful recently, so here I am just riding that high and covering my major some more :)
I will vary my content in the future though so be on the lookout for those 😎 and to those of you who have been supporting me so far, thank you, i appreciate youuuu
love always,
karen

10 Reasons to Major in Cognitive Science 🧠
Cog Sci is such an underrated major, thanks for bringing more light to it!!!
YES ALWAYS ❤️❤️❤️
in my country, only one university offers this course and im proud to be majoring it!
Malaysia?
GOSH, THANKS Karen for sharing.
Your content is so helpful for a newbie like me in the world of Cognitive Science, thank you!
Love this! Thanks for sharing!
This sounds like a fascinating major! Thank you for the video I think you're a very good communicator.
Thanks for sharing your experiences!
You really inspired me! Great video!
Thanks a lot I have a degree in psychology and will end up majoring in cognitive science this video was very helpful and motivational and I think I'll like the diversity and "usefulness" of the subjects as well! It might be a bit different tho since I'll study in France but it's reassuring and the kind of video I was looking for. All the best
I love this video Karen! The way you delivered the information is so clear and concise. I learned a lot from this video ☺️ I’m currently applying to colleges and while I have experience in CS, I wasn’t sure if that was what I wanted to major. Again thank youu!! 💕
AWW thanks girl! I’m so happy you found it useful 🥰
I'm so glad I watched this video!
I really want to study Cognitive Science ! Thank you for sharing 💖
Very useful information. Thanks for sharing
currently in the science department and this major jumped out of me. Kind of scared since I don't know if I'd be a fit, but I really appreciate your helpful videos! Thank you :D
Ahh im so glad they were helpful! thank you for watching 😍❤️
Love your video! So much preparing had been done, love your bio btw. I`m glad you made this video, it helped me very much :>
Thank u for this!
Im planning to apply for MA in cognitive science and these videos have been very helpful for me so thank you very very much!
Hey, kinda same story here. Currently final year Computer Science student; i'm little worried if having different major would cause any issue
Hi Karen! Thank you so much for this video! I'm a high school senior that has always been really interested in cog sci, and the way you packaged all the information was really straightforward, inspiring and reasuring :D you remind me of why I really want to study this major!! I have a college interview coming up and this video helped me a lot in situating my thoughts and understanding more about the world of cog sci~~ Thanks again! Stay healthy, and I wish you all the best.
Hiii omg this comment almost made me cry you’re so sweet!! 😭❤️ best of luck with your interview!! wishing for your success 🥰
@@KarenSupandi Woww! I'm so glad my appreciation reached you :)) social media is so magical sometimes. My interview went really well!! Thanks Karen! Wish you a wonderful day.
AWW YAYY IM SO HAPPY TO HEAR IT WENT WELL!!! 😭❤️ have a wonderful day too!!! thank you for letting me know 💙💙
Hey Faus, I'm a sophomore in highschool and I'm interested in cognitive science. Do you have a list of colleges you looked at that have good cog sci programs?
Thanks for your videos Karen. I studied Computer Science in Chile and I'm so interested in cog science for a master. Your videos helped me so much.
awww YAY that sounds so exciting! I’m so glad, thank you for watching 🤧❤️
Super helpful, thank you 🙏🏻
glad to hear!! thank you so much for watching!
I'm currently majoring in psychology and very interested in specializing in cognitive sciences. thanks for this information 💞
Ahh so excited for you!! thank you for sharing and for watching :)
I live in México and unfortunately no universities have this major but it sounds super interesting!!
Not me watching this and saying "YES I WANT THIS" to absolutely every reason
Thank you, Karen. I'm pretend to apply next year to transfer from Brazil. I'm already doing psychology here, but I have a big attraction for congsci and neuroscience so I'm in doubt haha. I will go search for the difference between psych degree and congscien degree.
Hey Rebeca, would love to know updates!
Thank you!!
Great vid! I want to major in cog sci :)
Thanks for this super informative vid! Do you mind me asking what you’re doing now with your degree/field you hope to go into?
Hey thank you so much I’m a junior in high school and I graduate next year and I’m wondering what to major in this really helped
I love this!! Was super helpful. However i have one question. How exactly do business and cognitive science relate to each other? How can u go into business after cognitive science
sorry for being judging, but I could listen to you talking the whole day, because your voice is like a fresh cushion in bed where you are excited to lay your head on after a long day :D Truly useful information. Cog Sci sounds like everything I am interested in, in one major. Thank you!
omg this is so sweet thank you!! and thank you for watching!! I'm glad it was helpful :)
Amazing video! I would like to apply for a CogSci master's soon and your video inspired me a lot. I love the way you talk and structure your video, keep it up!
I wish I watched this before going to uni 😭 but I’m thinking of changing my major to cogsci!
Hi Karen, your videos really inspire me a lot^^ I plan to change my major to cogsci next year, but I’m kinda confused about the stream of neuroscience. I am just wondering what does it study for and what are the future jobs for it when I graduate
hi! aww thank you so much 🥺❤️ I’ve noticed that a lot of neuroscience paths lead into research or pre-med! theres also diff parts of research, from academia to biotech companies :) but that doesnt even count how many people switch - i’ve known people who graduated with full bio degrees and are now becoming engineers haha. theres a lot that you can do!! i hope this helps haha
I’m 33 and I want to go back to school for Cog Sci apart of me is saying its too late but another part is saying “if you don’t shut up and do it” this to me is worth being in debt for. Such an interesting subject.
Do it! I want to do it because I think it will help with machine learning engineer job.
i just wanna say one thing, cog sci seems a cute subject, and so do you.
Hey I just found your channel and this video was so helpful! I was wondering if you had AP credits that helped you graduate a year earlier, and which ones helped you get out of classes?
This was something that I was wondering about. I think taking the summer semester will also be really helpful
I got lost in doing cognitive science I misunderstood it as cognitive psychology and found many barriers to my aptitude like neuroscience computer science and mathematical models
thanks for this video! i applied to cog sci. i was just wondering, how much computer science do they teach u? is it like advanced math & hard? because i really hate math & got bad grades in it too so 😭
Do a video on pros and cons.TNX
Hi Karen thanks for the videos, I’m not sure if this question is reasonable/relatable but do you happen to know the workload/stress level between cogsci and Econ at cal? Kind of torn between applying for this two major right now😵💫 thanks thanks thanks
The way you lay this out makes it seem like a liberal arts major which is applicable to the job market, which is really inspiring
haha liberal arts majors are definitely underrated sometimes :) I'm glad you enjoyed!
What books did you use in your classes?
Unfortunately in my country (and south america in general) there is no cognitive science undergraduate =\
Also no neuroscience, and the psychology courses are mostly very dated, its a shame really.
Thanks for this video 😊 i study mechatronics engineering with focus on the area of robotics and machine learning and i really like this major (cog sc) because i always liked the idea of understanding the human Mind and i have many questions in psychology and philosophy and also developing new Technologies was for me a dream . So i think these degree will be the solution of my curiosity about human and life and my passion of invention 🤩 do you agree about that? Because i'm planning to do my Master in Cognitive Science in Germany
YESS 100% AGREE!! cogsci has a lot of psych and philosophy and these can all combine to create really cool tech in the robotics field :) best of luck to you! thank you for watching!! ❤️
I just have a fear that the degree encompasses so many different subjects, such as psychology, computer science, philopophy, neuroology and more, to the point where you are basically competing with other people who have spent 3-5 years in total pursuing only one of those subjects in greater detail. I feel like it's too broad and generalized, and it would be hard to actually get a decent paying job. Imagine a company wanting to hire a software engineer. They are either going to hire a Computer Science major, or a Software Engineering major. Take psychology, and your options will be limited, because there are lots of people who spent 5 years pursuing purely psychology, and who have specialized in different fields, such as neuroscience, clinical therapy, social psychology and more.
Don't you think the degree tries to encompass so much, that in the end, no knowledge has been gained that others do not already have in spades?
Breadth gives you tremendous advantage though, because you can see the "bigger picture" often because you have more context.
Damn valid point I didn’t think of. really killed my hope for this major omg I’m scared again
@@beabo690 I think you'll find that the ones who know the most out there are the ones who are interdisciplinary. Combining interests makes you very well rounded. Here's an example, a cognitive scientist conducting an experiment that was done 80 years ago. He's not a student of history, so he's unaware of it. Or, applying statistics incorrectly because you're unaware of the philosophical underpinnings of the science to which it is being applied. I could go on. But a good mix of skills makes you very, very dangerous and valuable. As you specialize more and more, you know less and less about everything else there is to know. It's always a trade off, but don't go too narrow. Get some breadth, people who see the "big picture" are usually the smartest in the group.
This was my first concern as well. Then I realized it'd be best to take the major as an undergrad and focus on a specific aspect that I've gained aptitude for in grad school - therefore I can implement the basic knowledge of multiple, connecting, subjects into what I choose to specialize in. Providing an edge in perspective, logic, and skill set within my final field of study!
Opting for Cognitive science, maths in humanities at high school will help or information technology in humanities will?
Gonna think about cognitive science since I’m getting my associates in psychology. Any good schools that you recommended?
(Please let me know in the chat..)
Can do your campus tour and where u will take classes and all...please 🥺....it will be useful
If I want to major in Cogsci, how should I prepare for things like EC, Awards, and AP? Can you give me some tips on preparing for college admissions?
What subject do you need in highschool that will help with cognitive science
I have been doing my private research on Cognitive Science since 1997. I have thought-provoking findings. I need a co-founder to finalize, establish, register and record these findings globally. I am on a hunt to find a real partner to jointly finalise this project as a founders.

I am in 11th and opting for humanities. What are the subjects that with help me in Cognitive science major. I am weak in maths, I love computer. Is maths necessary for this?
Honestly, I don't know what to study, I'm very confused between STEM and cognitive science.
what do you think about cognitive science and artificial intelligence(csai)?
What subject should i major in my bachelor's degree if i want do my masters in cognitive science?
Hi, it's really such a nice video! I am wondering how do you think majoring in psychology and cognitive science. is there any big difference between psychology and cognitive science? thank you !
hi hi! thank you so much for watching :) this definitely depends on the school you're studying in, but my experience is that cogsci had more variety in classes than psychology. we took psych classes as well, but we also had to learn CS and philosophy and linguistics on top of them, so it definitely had more breadth than pure psychology.
Hey! I am doing bsc electronics with 52% can i do cognitive science?
Is coding hard? I took cognitive science bcs i thought i woud be only learn about psychology … so i wonder if the computer classes are hard🥺
I guess I will study it in Germany
Cognitive Science Major, MIT or Standford where should study?
hi!! Would you think having a cogsci degree would prepare me well if i go on a pre-dental route? thank you!
Hey karen, I am data scientist in india. Your videos are very professional, keep them coming. I am planning to do masters in USA. Are there good data science related pyschology courses?. Is cognitive science a good option to use my data science skills? Would I get a job and if, what type of jobs?. Thanks in advance. :)
Can I apply for cog sci after btech in biotechnology
I took history, arts, businesses studies, higher grade math, English in high school I don’t have any science would I qualify to take cognitive science if all those subjects are above 80 percent 😭?
Can someone with a bachelor's in CogSci continue to master in Neurosci?
Can i do masters in cognitive science after Ba in psychology?
Does any top university in USA also offer MS in Cognitive Science or related except Stanford SymSys
can somebody please tell me the requirements for phd in cognitive science in the US. is general GRE enough
what jobs do people do after majoring in cog sc?
hey! i’m currently in high school and i’m getting average science grades. the research i’ve done tells me that i would need to get high grades for science and maths but i do foundation papers for both. i’m worried i will not qualify and i am unable to change my exam tier since my exams are very soon. does anyone know anything about this and if i can still major this in uni? i’m also taking psychology A level so would this help me out?
LMAOOO DO IT
Great video!! I was wondering if your u could help me with what are the grades requirements to get into the course and if you applied for scholarships or such. It's be a great help!!
Hi! I was searching about cognitive science and stumbled on this video. It seems like you are also interested in pursuing CogSci. I was wondering if you are a part of any discussion forum where indian students ask things related to cogsci, and I can also contribute to the group by sharing what I have researched till now. It would be really wonderful to connect with students having same goal and thus resulting in better educated decision.
@@akshatjain4658 Same. Or we could just start one of our own?
@@talentauthority47 there is a discord group , feel free to join discord.gg/z5yZp57pjJ
@@talentauthority47 Also feel free to share it with other people or maybe drop in the comments where you find indian audience interested in cog sci.
@@akshatjain4658 thanks for reaching out. I'm not part of any forum, though I've joined the discord group and interested in knowing more about your research.
Terimakasih infonya kakak yg cantik 😁
Hi Karen just wanted to ask if you did a Bachelor of Arts in cognitive science or a Bachelor of science ? And what is the difference between them don't both of them teach the same curriculum?
i am wondering this exact thing !!
How much of a CS background do the cog sci majors that go into tech have? I am interested in linguistics, so that's kind of related to CS and cog sci, and I always hear about people that go into those roles with those majors, but I am never sure how much CS studying they did in order to get there.
thanks for the question! theres a lot of different jobs in tech so it definitely depends - for people who want to go into SWE, you might need more coding background than people who want to stay on the business side. from my experience, the classes I took for pre-reqs were enough to land business role interviews in tech, while my friends who went into SWE took more CS classes and even specialized in machine learning/other technical topics if it’s offered at their school. I’d say everything boils down to your resume - the more technical you want to be, the more technical things you should have on there :) hope this helps!!
@@KarenSupandi Ahhh okay that makes sense. So essentially your tech skills are whatever you make of them? That's very reassuring. I was under the impression that companies thought your technical knowledge was invalid unless you get a full BS in computer science
Ah no not at all!! I definitely think companies like to look at your resume as a whole than just your major. after all, your education only covers a short section probably compared to your other experiences. im sure companies know you cant BS technical skills if you have the projects and internships to back it up haha! lmk if you have any other q’s :)
Is it possible to become a psychologist after majoring in cognitive science?? I was thinking about choosing psychology as a major but I find cognitive science more interesting...Thanks for making this video!!

@@nayeemrashid4228 Hi there! If you're from Malaysia, UNIMAS is the one and only university that offers cog sci degree
@@nursafiamarrisa5513 ohh thanks, i have found a course in Univ of Osnabruck, Germany . But at present i am preparing for another one. Cognitive sci. was a good way, but i had kind of tension if i am not capable to do major in CS.
can you go for criminology(master) after you majored cogsci?
dont go to criminology
Can I become a teacher after cognitive science?????
hiii i have very general question! when writing research paper or essays, what format does your major use???
thank you and have a great day!!

@@elbaleon3960 thank you!!
is cognitive science same or close as philosophy? I'm waiting for my approval and thanks for this video :) .
Cognitive science will incorporate philosophy, but also incorporates many natural and social sciences as well.
hello hope u safe and healthy, my question is i wanna to choose carrier in social work, cognitive science course can i do
hello! I think cogsci is a good thing to study for a career in social work, i have a few friends who have done a similar thing. I would probably recommend taking some sociology classes in your program to gain a general understanding of the socioeconomic landscape as well as some psychology classes to understand human behavior on a more individual level :) best of luck to u!

I found interest in this major in my last semester of university, but I still want to learn it. Is this possible to be learned at my own time through books?
of course! the book that I studied in class was The Cognitive Sciences: An Interdisciplinary Approach by Carolyn P. Sobel :) I really enjoyed this one for an intro to all the branches of cogsci, it might be helpful to read this one to see which topic you'd be interested in diving deeper!
@@KarenSupandi Thank you so much for sharing!
i already did engineering bachelor degree and i love to do master in cognitive science? can i do?
of course! I believe there's a lot of masters programs out there for cogsci!
Hey, i applied for Computer science for bsc. And will go my master degree in cognitive science and AI, I am 17 could u pls suggest me best books for cognitive science and AI I am most interested in neuralink technology. This video helped me a lot.
Same thoughts in my head... Neuralink really did shift our mindset
Please don’t laugh. Japanese strategic cognitive scientist here
what the.... science is the exact opposite of memorizing how things work. It's about forming intuition so you can figure out how to go further.
This major is clearly existed for INFJs people
